Village l^ews It is the hope and desire of residents in this community to obtain all the improvements possible without additional taxes levied. Knowing how limited our village budget is, I arri wondering how many residents would really care enough to contribute either time or money to improve our lake. Since the shore line was dredged this spring, it has created quite a few floating bogs from the loose weeds and is most difficult to clean with rakes and boats. It will require an operation that will cost money. This can only be done through contributions from each home owner, Marceila Foss, who is spearheading this program, would appreciate volunteers to aid her in making a canvass of the property owners to raise a fund for this purpose. If enough peoples will volunteer, the job will take very little time. It doesn't have to be an elaborate process -- just a quick check into the possibility of unlooked for hazards in the spot you have selected -- whether it be for a two-week stay or a two-hour picnic. A bit of this inquisitiveness, for instance, would have spared one family a load of unwanted Sexcitement and possible serious injury. It seems, they had selected an inviting looking spot alongside a sparkling little brook to enjoy a picnic lunch. What they didn't know -- and could have learned from the filling station operator down the road was that the owner of the property was a slightly deranged person who delighted in taking after visitors with a trusty shotgun. ^Fortunately his aim was as bad |as his reason arfd they escaped badly frightened, but unharmed. This business of looking into ^places before you stay can be .•Summed up in a paraphrase of ja famous slogan: "Ask the man ;|ivho's been there," according to pin official representing the accident prevention department of a leading insurance company, i What are some of the things your quick check for safety should include? The expert says a family shouldn't assume that danger is always present and spoil their long-anticipated vacation fun, but adds that it is equally foolish to assume that there is no danger and have a vacation -- or a life -- cut short.
