' Vacationing: Here Susan Pitzen and Carol Ann Sftilliilg arrived here from St. Coletta's school in Jefferson, Wis., last Friday to spend the month of August. Susan will be staying with her family, the Lewis Pitzens, while Carol Aim will be spending her time with her grandmother, Mrs. Helen Hettermann. I'm sure both of these young ladies will make the most of this month. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Canute and daughter, Vonnie, of Kalamazoo, Mich. The Canutes brought along Mrs. Adams' sister, Mrs. Tom Mills, of Edinbourgh, Texas, for a vacation. After the Canutes returned home, Joe, Clara and Mrs. Mills made a three-day jaunt up to Eagle River and Conover, Wis., to visit another sister. Mrs. Walter Grube, and family. Mrs. Mills departed by bus last weekend, a tired but happy traveler. Carnival Time Is rolling around once again. This is your chance to enjoy all Of the carnival spirit as the season is coming to an end soon. St. John's church is sponsoring its annual carnival on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10, 11 and 12, on the Community club grounds. Women have been canvassing the various streets and subdivisions for donations of all kinds such as vegetables, coffee*, butter, pies, cakes, etc. If you have been missed by some odd chance, please contact one of the ladies of the Blessed Virgin sodality and I'm sure she can recommend you to someone, who has charge of this door-to-door canvass. Please give as much as you can to defray costs and be sure to invite all your friends and relatives out to enjoy the carnival. More details will follow in future issues of this column. Welcome To Mr. and Mrs. Bill Fischer and Mr. and Mrs. George Gutzloff, who are among our newest residents as of last Saturday. The Fischers moved into their newly completed home from Chicago, while the Gutzlofls moved here from Ingleside. Both of these young couples take up their new residences on Dolores Drive in Jak-Ana Heights. Around the Town Mr. and Mrs. Kenny Hamsher and family. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Marshall and family and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Haag and family enjoyed an outdoor barbecue dinner at the Gerry Hettermann home last Wednesday evening. The George Lasser family of Chicago visited over last * weekend at the Rudy Lasser home. , Mr. and. Mrs. Gene King and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hettermann spent last Thursday at Holy Hill. V.F.W. AUXILIARY NEWS By Alyce Brda I had a few phone calls last : week in regard to barking dogs ! within the town. Someone has his dog out at night in town and some of the residents are unable to sleep. So if you are one of the dog owners, please remedy this situation. Schedule Hearing A hearing is scheduled to be held Tuesday, \ug. 14, at 3 o'clock at the city hill. At this time, the petitioner, Oliver W. Howell, is asking to have a p'ece of property rezoned from "F" farming to "R-l" residence classification. The property is located east of, and adjoining, Du-Bell park subdivision and the first addition to Du-Bell Park subdivision. Shop At Home Before I go any further I hope you'll forgive the error in the date I gave you for our carnival. It will be held Aug. 22 through the 26th. I had you confused there for awhile, didn't 1? At the next meeting, on Aug. 13, there will be an election for Junior-Vice &nd 2 Year trustee. The Aug. 27 meeting has been cancelled because everyone will need time >to recuperate after the carnival ends Sunday night. The next Downey hospital party will be Aug. 15. You know you are there only a short time but it means a lot to the boys to have someone to talk to and it makes you feel good to know that you've helped them in a small but very ..deserving way. There isn't much more to report on this week as our last meeting was of the Short and informal nature. Before closing the meeting, President Pauline Pries was presented with a decorated cake and a very pretty bouquet of garden flowers. Occasion?? It was Pauline and Bill's fifteenth wedding anniversary. Don't forget the joint meeting July 30, starting at 7:30 p.m., and the next meeting Aug. 13. Joe Adams celebrated his birthday on July 30, while his wife, Clara, has hers coming up on Aug. 6. Best wishes to all.
