Carpentier has warned Illinois motorists to beware of persons who represent themselves as being influential" in obtaining'the reinstatement of licenses following suspension or revocation under the Drivers License act. Secretary Carpentier says his office has received evidence that persons whose licenses have been revoked frequently receive letters to the effect that the author can be of assistance in obtaining not only the insurance required by the Financial Responsibility law but also a quick reinstatement of the revoked or suspended license. The cleverly phrased letters liiake the inference that the secretary's" office is favoring certain insurance companies by furnishing them with the names of the persons who have been revoked or suspended and are required to file proof of financial responsibility. Secretary Carpentier! stated that the inference made in those letters is not correct. He pointed out that revocation and suspension actions taken by his office are public information, and as such are released to newspapers for publication. Mr. Carpentier said he is investigating the authors of the misleading letters for possible violations of the law, and any information vindicating violations will be turned over to the proper authorities.
