wW^-^ '$'<y0'l':-&\V •'•#?£ THE MAMGM McHENRY PLAINDEALER ;-' MMMI Thursday. November J* 1956 J$Y EAH&WTDCAST. f |y- y"wSn Some fine young fellows, recently graduated from high school, have approached this department with the problem of how to get iji town basketball team organized. . , think it would take little jefEort to organize. Our problem 'l&tipw to finance a team. P There has been quite a drop Off in town teams in recent pears, but spirited young men do idt discourage easily. V We feel that it is a shame not tb help young fellows who want to continue in sports activity. It is a fine way for them to spend their recreational hours. ? We think it is admirable for these fellows to want to continue ift^s^orts activities. Benefits cannot be underestimated. Now, do any of you sports fans have an idea that will help these young men help themselves? If so, please call us Tight now, If it is only an opinion you have to offer, let's have it. It has been many a day since we saw a McHenry football team as happy as those rampaging Warriors after beating Lake Forest last Friday night "'We walked in just as the visitors scored their touchdown. A couple of old grads said, "Here we go again."--and went on to explain how Lake Forest marched right through our team after the kick-off. Coach Pheanis must havte said a few choice words during half time. They were battling Warriors in the second half. /McHenry's line went to work in earnest to spring the backfield loose for yardage. P. J. Schneider gave the fans something to cheer about with Wis terrific riins. One more man out in front of him and l)e would have .been away a couple* of more tijptes. The "Fearless One" came up with a .700 average in predicting games last week and is back for more. Nobody's crystal ball could foresee that Illinois upset of Michigan State. And the Minnesota- Michigan score was not in the crystal either. Boss Burfeindt is thinking of cutting our expense account. We advised him in September never to bet against the Yankees or Notre Dame. The Yankees did all right, but those Irish are the ones giving us trouble. Illinois meets Purdue thjs week and will have to keep up where they left off against Michigan State. We have great respect for that Purdue outfit--especially with Dawson in there pitching. Next week we will print the high school basketball and wrestling schedules. Robbie's Fearless Predictions: Ohio State over Northwestern Indiana over Marquette Michigan State over Wisconsin Oklahoma over Colorado Illinois over Purdue Michigan over Iowa Army over Colgate Penn State over Syracuse Tennessee over N. Carolina Extra-- McHenry over Libertyville I THE GREAT OUTDOORS 1 Hie other backs seemed to pick up the spirit and Huemann mixed the handbffs in nice style. When the game was over, the boys hoisted their coach on their shoulders and took off for the shower room. Everybody on the 'McHenry side had a smile. What a difference a win makes! And that was the second in a row for the Pheanis boys. ' Now comes Lijtiertyville for the X|nal game of the season. They will be here Friday night. We hope you fans will be there to see this windup battle. ;^nd a Ipsal battle it may be*; ~ ^ The Warriors have gained monoentum with those victories over barren and Lake Forest and sjhould be able to make this season look real good by winning this game. By Jack Walsh llljlllllllllljlllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll'lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllli The goose season in the Southern Zone of Illinois will be from November 5th, to December 15th, inclusive. The opening of the public hunting areas will depend upon the presence of a satisfactory number of geese on the refuges and will be announced several days in advance. The first, for hunters who have not previously used the. areas will be 6:00 p.m. (C.S.T.) the evening before the hunt. If all the pits are not claimed by firsttime hunters in the evening, the remainder will be put up for' drawing again at 5:30 a.m. the day of the hunting. First-time hunters will get their choice again during this second drawing. If all first-time hunters are accommodated and there are still pits available, a third drawing will take place in which repeat hunters may take part. No permits will be issued in advance. The Horseshoe Lake public area is just ^outh of the Promised Land (Spillway) road, about 1% miles north of. the Roth railroad station. The Union County public area is on Route 3, about 5 miles south of Ware. Some big flights of ducks have been moving south in Wisconsin. There are 25,000 geese on Horicon Marsh. A big concentration of mudhens is moving south and we can expect some good shooting in the next few weeks. There is still some fair duck shooting on Grass Lake says John Molose of Huel's Landing.
