Two Accidents Pete Hamil was in an automobile accident last Saturday and is now in St. Therese hospital in Waukegan. Bernie Peschke was treated for injuries at McHenry hospital last Saturday from an automobile accident. We wish you both a very speedy recovery. P. T. A. James Buchwalter, the' vicepresident, was in charge of the last Lily Lake P.T.A. meeting. A committee was formed at the last meeting to plan a Christmas party for the children of the ffichool. Mrs. Buchwalter, the president, is still on the sick list due to a. stroke and it will be several weeks yet before she will be able to get around. Bowling News ' » There were many, humoroys and cute costumes last Monday at the McHenry bowling alley. The women all had a good time and a prize was awarded to the McDonald team. Hiey were dressed as' jail birds. Graduated Robert J. Bitterman, with the U. S. Marines, graduated from boot training and is being transferred for further training to Camp Pendleton, San Diego, Calif. He has high hopes for a furlough at Christmas time. Cub Scouts Michael Hatch, Tom Para, Butch Sossong, Charles Zabroski and, Mike. Zabroski of Den 7 .last Saturday .went from door to door giving out liberty bells with a "Get Out and Vote" slogan. Girl Scouts The Girl Scouts of Troop 1 had a swell time Wednesday night when they went "trick or t r e a t i n g " a r o u n d t h e t o w n . Thanks to everyone who didn't turn away seventeen girls in a group. Mrs. Pope, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Naughton were along with the girls. They report a well behaved group of scouts. Ken Pope, Jr., enjoyed Wednesday evening hahding out bags of treats to some eighty odd "Goblins", also playing host to the Girl Scouts by serving hot chocolate after their trip around the town. Thursday night at our regular meeting we had our Hallowe'en party, there were twenty-five present. Prizes weip given to Nancy Chadwick, most original; Mary Ann Sossong, the prettiest; Judy Pope, the ugliest; Gary Frankie, Jackie Noel and Judy Barlow for secret identity. We were sorry that Rosanne Brzezinski could not join us during these two nights due to her accident while horseback riding. Hope; you are better soon and back with us at our next meeting. Intermediate Girt Scouts A short meeting was held last Monday by the Girl Scouts, followed by a Hallowe'en party later. The girls enjoyed games and music. Refreshments were served by the Girl Scouts to their guests. The leaders and all the girls were in costumes. The Girl Scouts will begin their badge work and Christmas gift cards at the next meeting. There will be some gift cards ready for sale at the auxiliary bazaar on Sunday,, Nov. 18. • Brownies The Brownies enjoyed last Tuesday with a short meeting and a Hallowe'en party with ice cream, cookies, candy, balloons and games. There were many very nice costumes worn by the girls. MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE Forty-four graduate nurses, the first group to complete training under an employment-education program set up in 1955 by the Illinois Department of Public Welfare, entered the department's mental health service system last week and were assigned to various hospitals. In making this announcement, Dr. Otto L. Bettag, department director, said 131 other nurses are taking training for similar work. Plans call for 200 students in the progifem, so as to provide a steady flow ot psychiatric nurses into state mental health services. FHA OPERATING^ LOAN SERVICE HAS BEEN EXPANDED New legislation has increased the number of farm families who are eligible to obtain operating loans from the Farmers Home administration, Robert C. Becker, the agency's county supervisor, said. The new law increases the maximum amount that can be advanced, and as a part of the r u r a l d e v e l o p m e n t p r o g r a m makes loans available when the farmer has part-time employment off the farm. Operating loans are made for the purchase of machinery, livestock, equipment, fertilizer, seed, tractor fuel and other farm and home operating expenses needed to carry ouf efficient farming operations on family-type farms. In some instances, a loan may be made for the re-financing of existing debts. Under this new law, loans will also be available to applicants who have part-time employment off the farm, provided they are established farmers conducting substantial farming operations and* spending the major portion of their time farming. Such operators must have dependable sources of outside income.
