TRAFFIC SAFETY Members of the tr&ffic safety section of the Illinois state highway police attended a special training program held last week at the state fairgrounds in Springfield. Officers from each of the 14 slate police districts discussed municipal safety council developments, traffic safety work of Illinois cities, -and the role of police in traffic safety education. Police Superintendent William H. Morris recently sent a personal letter to all 600 highway police calling attention to the fact that while traffic deaths for the nation as a whole increased about 8 per cent for the first ten months of 1956 as compared to last year, Illinois has managed to hold such deaths to about last year's level. He urged the officers to work harder than ever for traffic safety during the remaining weeks of the current year. • : .
