A few of our better known commuters were heard to say that if this kind of weather keeps up for the balance of the winter they Were going to hibernate. And speaking of snow, we shovelled the driveway three times the day of the snow and found to our regret if you live on the highway you can't beat the snow plow drivers. They are always one step behind you and as you shovel out they bury you in. Oh well, .the Joys of country life. At lease we didn't have the slush of the big M, j Danger • " Although by now the ice is probably pretty safe near shore, the center is still pretty shaky as One young gent found out this week. The details can be found elsewhere in .this issue. Warnings are given prevent accidents in this village, and it is my sincere hope that parents will 'go along wth tihe warnings and ask the children to keep away from the ice until they are sure it is safe.' If a parent is in doubt about sending the children to the lake, they should be free to call this reporter for information on the lake. Call anytime and ask for Annette at 594-W-2. Wally Szarek On the Mend Although Wally Szarek suffered a minor stroke last week, and was confined to McHenry hospital for a few days, he's well on the mend now and I understand that he will need about two weeks of good rest before he is ready to cook wtih gas again. Get well quick, Wally. Thanks. Harry! For those of you who wondered who that wonderful fellow was that was spreading cinders on the curve at the beach the other day, it was none other than fatihful Harry Strand. A lieutenant of the fire department, this fellow always seems to have the best interests of his neighbors at heart. He's one grand guy and we'd like to let him know that we think he's tops. If all men had a heart like his. this would be one wonderful world to live n. Village Meeting The regular monthly village meeting will be held this evening, Thursday. Jan. 9. 1958. All are urged to attend these functions. Socials The social nights usually held at Wally's will resume on Friday evening. Jan. 10. The socials are held for the purpose of obtaining, recreational equipment and providing quarters for community projects. Happy G. I; Word comes from Sonny Mc- Dermott that he was extremely happy with the wonderful cards he received from all the fine fojks in ou^ section and that he will personally answer each and every one of them as soon as possible. He says that although he worked until one o'clock Christmas eve and had to be back on the job the morning of the holiday at seven, he did get a few hours of the Christmas holiday to enjoy the Bob Hope and Jane Mansfield show which passed through on Christmas day. He writes that his holiday was a rollicking success but would have been a little more like Christmas if he'd been home to celebrate. Girl Scouts Troop 809 Troop 309 plans to form into patrols this week and seven girls will form one patrol. Virginia Godina and Diane Kibbe will continue with their work as junior leaders. The troop met this past Monday. EASTWOOD By Peggy Garrelts Accident Poor Vince. He looks a mess. Vince Lorio that is. Seems that Vince was riding in his state truck when a fellow hit them in the side. It all happened at the intersection of Rt. 31 and Rt. 12. Vince is carrying his hand in a cast and has a badly wrenched back and expect? to be out of work for another week or so. Sorry to hear of your misfortune, Vince but we know you bounce back like a rubber'ball. With the blanket of white snow j and low temperature which blew , in on us this past week, there has been very little activity from us old folks except backing up to a nice wirm heat duct from our furnaces. The kids have been having the time of their lives belly whopping with their new sleds and skating on the ice which has formed in the slough. The steep hill in the back is ideal for coasting. Some of the old flivers had to be coaxed to start, and some ended up in the ditch, but all in all it's just dandy, with our first big snow 6f the year.. Congratulations Our congratulations to that fine couple, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Parratore who celebrated their sevens teenth wedding anniversary on New Year's eve. They spent the evening enjoying the solitude of their home with the immediate family. May the years ahead bring unending joy to you both. Happiest G. I. For the motor car that has borne that distinguished name for the past fifty-five years has been so well designed and Crafted that it has become a synonym for everything good and desirable in a product. And never have these virtues been more evident than they are in the Cadillac car for 1058. A single, sweeping glance at the new "car of cars", for example, reveals a grace and majesty and elegance before attainable in modern automotive design. A brief journey at the wheel provides irrefutable proof of the forward strifles that have been made in Cadillac performance and in Fleetwood coachcrafting. And a study of the facts about Cadillac economy and dependability indicates a soundness of investment beyond anything in Cadillac's brilliant past. edlanc Cadillac, you should do so very soon.
