^ Well Pone Thanks to Florence Noonan •-tor the fine job she did in writthis column for me while I .•uwas fpvay and thanks to everyone for cooperating and phon- *ctng her the news. It was a job ^gell done. • ; i Little League We know you will all be u^la;d to learn that the new lfMcHenry Little League boundaries still include Eastwood "ijtfanor. This is a wonderful -organization which provides a lot of wholesome activity for the boys ,up to the age of x twelve years. McHenry has many minor league teams for • the younger and less experienced boys, as well as a major' ' league of six teams. They play all summer at the Little League field which is just east of McHenry behind the VFW hall. .It is as much fun for the parents to attend the games as it is for the boys to play. There are a lot of boys here who can participate in this program if they wish, and the organiza- ' tion is always on the alert for fathers who are willing to manage a team or help out with the coaching of the boys. We urge anyone interested in playing or helping, to watch the notices in the Plaindealer which will give you the time and place of the meetings. Mall Boxes We wish to remind everyone that it is your responsibility to shovel out around your mail box in order to make it easy for the mail man to deliver your mail. The poor fellow has enough trouble skidding around his route each morning without having to hop out of his car to reach a mail box which should be accessible to him from his car. kwas able to return to work Monday. Larry Bogart hurt his back shovelling snow and- has been down for a week and a half. Hope he's better by now. Bobby Lindemann is at home and has been there for two weeks with pneumonia. His mother tells us that he is on the upgrade how. We hope you are back on the, school bus in no time Bobby. The three McAllister children, Peter, Harry; and Pamela have all been sick this past week. Three year old Grfcg Fultz with a little/ boy's curiosity, decided to sample the iodine the other day. Fortunately, mother discovered what he had done in time and was able to administer an antidote promptly. The child is none the worse for wear--but you can bet the adults are plenty shook up! - Hospital Notes ' June Brigham entered Woodstock Memorial hospital last Thursday for a minor operation. She will be home in four or five days. Alfonse Oberhuber (known to all of us as Little Al) was also hospitalized last week for an operation in the McHenry hospital. We understand both patients are doing fine and we wish them a speedy recovery. This and That Last Thursday evening Tim and Lois McCormack, Warren .and Lois Krebs and Tom and Rita Simpson spent an energetic and enjoyable evening visiting with Bob and Mary Heinz in their new home. They spent part of the time tobogganing in the area around Countryside Lake. Tom and Helen Birmingham Attended Tom's nephew's wedding in Morton Grove last Saturday. Marilyn Fultz and her children are spending a week or ten days visiting her folks near -Fort Wayne, Ind. Ann Mathis, Dan Mathis' feister, spent several days last iweek visiting at the Mathis home. She is a nurse at the Veteran's hospital. ' Lee and Mim Hansen entertained overnight guests, Frank and Jean Zahner from Scranton, Iowa last week. We are sorry to say good-bye to the Wilms family. They hardly had time to get settled in their new home when it was necessary for them to move to Michigan. They left this week. Do you remember the little red boot that was stolen from Mim Hansens porch by a playful pup at the beginning of the winter? It was found after two months or" more in a neighbor's yard. Good thing Mim kept the mate -- the snow is rough on a fellow with only one boot. The Walt Garrelts* family returned home after spending three weeks in Virginia visiting Peg's folks. The only disappointment of the whole trip was that they were unable to get the five generations together for a family picture. It was a great trip but home never looked so good, despite the cold and snow! Happy Birthday Sorry we missed LeVerne Saynor's birthday on Jan. 17. But it's not too late for best wishes. Peggy Oik celebrated her birthday this past week on Jan. 31. , Mike Mathis celebrated his fourth birthday on Feb 2. Steve Simpson will be 5 years old Feb. 9. Mama is planning a party, but at this time the date was indefinate. Linda Weigman will be 6 years pid on Feb. 1. She is entertaining a few of the neighborhood children at a party. It's nice to be back on the job and I'm waiting for your call with all the news. Phone 2101. GIRL SCOUTS Newcomers We wish to welcome Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Diedrich from Edgebrook Heights who moved into Eastwood Manor this past week. Sick List Glenn Messer has been home for some time witlf inflammation in one of his knees. It's rough not to be able to get around. Take it easy Glenn, they tell us spring is coming and maybe milder weather will make you feel better. Dan Mathis has been home from work this past week but SENIOR "GIRL SCOUTS - On Jan. 28, we held the first meeting of the new year. Fifteen members were present. We filled out individual registration forms, and hope to soon have our troop number. We decided .to make Valentine favors for a home or hospital. All members were asked to look for novel ideas. On Sunday, Feb. 2, we had a toboggan party at Jean Borchardt's home, followed by cocoa and hot dogs cooked over the fire. The fire also thawed us out. <£> Since the meeting at the Delmonte home on Feb. 4, we will meet every other week. We hope to see all members at the future meetings. To handle yourself, use your head; to handle others, use your heart. RUPTURE -EASER lakes Uft Worth Living FOR MEN, WOMEN, CHIIDREN Qn Jan. 26, we saw the film ."Children of the Atom Bomb." It told of the fates of several families who were affected by the atom bomb in Hiroshima. This was followed by a very, lively discussion in which we heard many opinions on whether or not it w§s necessary to use the atom bomb.* This movie made us all very glad we aire fortunate enough to live in America. We'll see everybody on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 7:30 p.m. when we have a speaker on dating. Jean Borchart, scribe. CU» SCOUTS Cub Scout Pack 362 had a winter outing Sunday afternoon, Jan. 26, at Harrison's resort on Pistakee Bay. Tom Harrison had plowed the snow from the ice to make a skating rink about one-half mile in length. There were races for individual winners and a relay race of four teams Consisting of six boys each. Each member of the winning team received a silver dollar as a prize. Many of the dads enjoyed the skating with their families. After working up the usual good appetites, the Cub Scouts and their families, approximately eighty people, were served refreshments by Mr. Harrison. Everyone had a wonderful time.
