HUNTING AREAS POPULAR More hunters used the Illinois Department of Conservation's public hunting areas during the. 1957 season than during the previous year, accord ing to statistics made public by Director Glen D. Palmer, but only the duck hunters managed to boost the percentage of hunter success. A total of 7,228 hunters killed 9,104 ducks on the five department areas for an average of 1.26 ducks per hunter. Oh the same areas in 1956, the average was 1.24 with only 4(238 hunters participating. Shelby county was tie best hunting spot for the second straight year with an averagePbf 1.56 birds per hunter, buf it fell off badly from its 1.71 figure of 1956, as did Belle Rive, which dropped to third place behind Clinton county. After the first shock of being taken unawares the party continued in the basement with dancing and games, June was doubly pleased because there was nothing for her to do but enjoy herself. The surprised look on Chet's and June's faces was well worth the job of keeping the welcome liome party for Chet a secret. - - the Cub Scouts is the blue and gold banquet at the Legion hall in McHenry on Sunday, Feb. 23. This is a pot luck dinner held every year for the Cub Scouts and their families. Our cubbers who will attend with their families are Paul McDonald, David Zeiger and Bill Davis. Each den selected its own yell for this occasion and the fathers were coached before-hand by the cubbers. Blishap The ice and snow continue to take their toll. Mrs. Emma Olsen -of Mayfair Drive was walking home from the store when she slipped on the ice just off the blacktop.
