IS CHAMPION AT COUNTRY CLUB "Julie" Reports fi The Highlights ' Of "Hookey Day" Congratulations to Ed Buss) Jr., our local Ford dealer, on the wonderful display of consistent golf that he employed in winning the McHejrf^^Coun try Club Championship. Nevt^more-thkn a stroke off the^ffoce, Eddie just kept plugging away, and at the end of 72[ holes of model play, found hmi with a total of 293 and1 seven shots ahead of Earle Seepe, who until the last day set the pace for the first 3 runds. " Second place went to Earl Seepe, the 1957 C. C. Champion. Others to ' finish were: Vale Adams, 3rd; Paul Overton, 4th; Norm Knaack, 5th; and Frank Rourke, 6th. A letter on the highlights from Hookey«£>ay at McHenry Country Club: Wednesday, July 23, came into our beautiful Fox Valley and the weather was a day dreamed about. But never was there a day so perfect that even the once-a-year golfers shot some of their best scores. The prizes-given out for golf achievement as well as the door prizes were well selected and the winners, I'm sure, were so happy that it can do nothing more than to prove that the roots of Hookey Day are more surely rooted into the turf of the club than ever before. The games committee did an outstanding job in the way the outing was conducted. A male comedian provided the laughs after-the presentation of prizes and for a full hour kept the group on its toes. ' That entertainment was topped off by the bull sessions and Saw Jake Buss in town Fi- I aniateur jokesters around the So. Don't be bashful. Let us know as soon as possible if you waBt to attend. A fellow came in this week selling stock in the Cubs. Turned out to be a McHenry Old Timer, Martin Smith. We get a kick oUt of those annual visits, but this one was too short. Martin likes to talk .sports and about McHenry in days when everybody went to the ball game on Sunday afternoon. Of course, we like to listen and do a bit of gabbing about those things ourself. Lee Hiller's report on the state baseball tournament will tell you tjiat Lloyd Freund went on a real hitting spree. Included in this was jk triple to the scoreboard to center field. Butch Novak had a good day with three hits. Runs crossed the plate fri all but the seventh inning. The clouds kept most of the people away, but there still were quite a few people at the game. Loren Freund turned in his finest pitching performance the season, allowing only 2 runs on 8 hits.
