This year's champions are the McHenry Sand & Gravel Eagles, managed by Don Meyer and coached by Nicky Justen. The standings are as follows: McHenry Sand & Gravel Eagles 12-3; Manager: Don Meyer; Coach: Nicky Justen. Tonyan Bluebirds 9-6; manager: Fred Meyer; coach: J. GJosson. Buss Orioles 8-7; manager: Gene Adams; coach: A1 White. State Bank Cardinals 6-9; manager: A» Kujak; coach: Don Freund. Hester Owls 5-10; manager: Otto Larsen; coach: Gene Frost. Overton Falcons 5-10; manager: Bob Newkirk; coach: M. DeVoss. As an added attraction for the fans and as a reward^to the boys playing this year, iwe have an interesting program planned for the next three Sundays. Fox Lake will be here with the same pitcher who pitched against us in the tournament. Billy Funk, who opposed him at that time, will pitch against him. We will have 2 teams here from Woodstock. No need to say that these games will be hotly contested and strongly supported. On the following Sunday we will have an All Star team from Wonder Lake and one from McCullom Lake. Also we will have another team from Woodstock coached by a former McHehry boy, Bob Knox. Needless to say, this one we wapf to win. A further interesting feature of this game will be that the starting pitchers grew up together until one moved to Woodstck. These boys are Tom Knox and Richy Smith. The schedules for these games are as fdllows: Sunday, Aug. 10: 1 p.m. Oriioles vs. Fox Lake; 2:30 p.m. Eagles vs. Woodstock, 1st place team: 4 p.m. Bluebirds vs. Woodstock, 2nd place team. Sunday, Aug. 17: 1 p.m. Owls vs. Wonder Lake All Stars; 2:30 p.n<i. Cardinals vs. Woodstock, third place team; 4 p.m. Falcons vs. McCullom Lake All Stars. Saturday. Aug. 9: Dance fot $1.00 to Bob Freund's music. No raffles. In the Minor League, we hav#?^!ttffi^Set«p but among our ovttt boys. Saturday, Aug. 2: regular ^ohpdule: 1 ,p.m. Orioles vs. Eagles; 2:45 p.m. Owls vs. Cardinals. Sunday, Aug. 3: 1:30 p.m.-- All the players from the Eagles and Owls vs all the players from the Cardinals and Orioles.; 3:30 p.m.--Bluebirds vs. Falcons. As the standings will show the Falcons are in first place by virtue of the Bluebirds not having played as many ?ames. The managers of the Falcons and Cardinals want to pitch their best pitchers against each other so have agreed to allow the Bluebirds to cancel their rained out game. Falcons, 7-1; Bluebirds 6-1; Eagles, 3-4; Cardinals, 3-4; Orioles, 2-5; Owls, 1-7. • Protect _ Our A Nation's ®U .0 Youth E ' by Jack Yegge jJVell, the season is nearly over and it looks like the Braves have won the championship, but as you know the ^ame is never over 'till the last {j^in is out. Lou Swedo has been trying to win first place fof the last .three years and Jp> think he has succeeded this year. The Sox have a good chance for second place. Pete DeCicco has a good ball team this, year. There is no one ball player on the team you can give all the credit to, they all did a fine job and still are in there playing hard. Dave Klapperich and Paul rrenz are keeping the Cards there fighting. Lou Rogers has done a real fine job of managing this good team. Don Johnson, manager of the ^nks, had a little trouble this yjjar urith his boys, but everything has been straightened out now, and he has the team fighting in every game. jiAnd now for the Giants. Tg>ey sure are not in the same ^ptce now as they were last year at this time, but they are improving with every game. Our league is in need of more help from the fathers of the boys. The men, who have been aeting as managers, devote a kg; of time to these boys and scpiie of the teams don't have a cbach td help the manager. If the boys would gjly come out and offer to help, the managers could do a better job. It seems like it is always the same few men who do all the work. If the Pony League is to be a success next year more men will be needed to carry on the work. So, come on fathers, offer your help to the managers and officers of the league.
