Chewing the baseball fat with Lee, we learned that the Tigers . won a slam-bang game at Kenosha last Wednesday night. i Enthusiastic reporters have ' given us a lot of sports coverage this summer. Would like to make it more complete and notice no news has come in about the younger fellows in the softball league. Can use more news on men golfers, too. Verona Kent takes good care ioxfy t he ladies at McHenry Coun- Club. " And, how are things up at Pistakee Country Club, Bill Malpede? The last time we were Up there, the place was humming with activity. And, Mama Malpede, you promised to get us a loaf of that famous bread! Somebody sent a note telling that Raynold Anderson of Richmond had a liole-in-one on the 225 yard No. 2 at the Hunters Golf Club last Sunday. Used a 2 iron. The thrill of a lifetime. Our Helen Busch, a great Cub fan, saw the Yankees beat bur White Sox last Saturday. We were anything but anxious to meet her on; Monday morning. Then the Sox won a double header from the same Yankees on Sunday. That saved us--some. And would you ever believe that Marie Yegge watched that double-header on TV rather than listen to the Cub game! We can prove it! *v Like all good fathers, Junior jFreund is trying to bring his lion up nftfh th'e proper outlook 4»n sports. And papa, being a staunch Cub fan, is trying to teach his son that the Cubs /ire really the only ball team iwrorthy . 0f support. So papa takes his son to see the Cubs play ball on Monday just to see how a real ball club plays the jgame. Holy smokers, did they blow it! We can sympathize with you, ; ^ Junior. For several years we . jiave planned to take our niece, . Louise Miller, to see the Sox / fllay ball. So we took her >when Baltimore was in town. : ;®Twas a great day--for eight Innings, them we blew it in the ninth. Anyhow, our Louise thought the peanuts and hot .= dogs were delicious. With the season drawing to a close the Tigers came 2 games closer tov retaining the County League crown. .. They are now leading the league by 2 games. The Elgin V.F.W. is in second place. In the first game, cut at 7 innings, Loren Freund held Hebron to only two hits and one run while his teammates scores sixteen runs qn' seventeen hits. In fact, we should have some good shooting this fall. Squirrel seasons for Illinois are: Southern zone: August 1 to October, 15, inclusive. Northern zone: September 1 to October 31, inclusive. Dajily limit: 5. Possession limit: 5 on opening day and 10 thereafter. The Conservation Department informs us that applicants for deer hunting permits are causing a good deal of confusion by failing to include sufficient information with their letters. The only requirements are: 1. A first and second choice * of counties. 2. Five dollars. 3. The applicant's proper name and address*. v The dove population is quite high in our area this year. Hunters can anticipate at least a few full limits this season, provided their shooting eyis are good. Last Friday evening We headed for Lake Geneva. The only thing we had in 'mind was catching a batch of nice bluegills, so naturally we forgot to reserve a boat. Well, we had a pleasant little drive anyway. The starling problem in the Venice Park area on Boone Creek has finally been licked. For a number Of years the little pests have made nuisances of themselves by roosting there. Almost every device imaginable, including flares, was used to no avail. Then the best remedy in the world, for any kind of pest, was used. You guessed it. For two evenings shotgun blasts were heard along the creek. The result: No more starlings.
