Some of the scores turned in would make the pros at Glen Eagles envious. A course the pros played at scratch. The leaders in this big one afe Paul Overton, Jack Buckie, Ed Gac and Tim Wheelock. Tied with this team -at 59 shots are Allie Noonan, Carl Schmidt, Louis Consago, and Howard Wilkinson. One of the worst rounds shot was a 61 and with only 2 shots'separating Ost place from last place, this next Sunday should prove very interesting. I don't want to make book on how much lower these scores can go, but with this kind of a start, lower maybe? After the government has taken ehough to balance the b u d g e t , t h e a v e r a g e p e r s o n has to budget the balance. Some farms, which have acreage reserve contracts, cpuld apply for assistance under Practice 17-F, which is seeding of winter crops to protect soil during the winter months against wind and soil erosion; these crops could be either winter oats, barley or rye. Under this practice, the acreage eligible for cost-share assistance must represent\ an increase over the normal plantings of such crops on the farm based on a three-year average. Many other practices are available through the ACP program for 1958. s Mr. Bridges, chairman of the ASC committee, who announced that funds are still available in McHenry county, warned against performing such practices before a written request is made in the office, if assistances to be earned. Prerequisites to the hikes were a 300-word report on reading made on the Mound Indians, for the Silver Moccasin frail, and the Reading of two booklets on little known facts about Lincoln as a boy and 'teen-ager, to make the Hoosier Lincoln trail. Other points of interest visited were the capitol at Indianapolis; touring of Cincinnati; more than 100 miles of Kentucky's picturesque countryside; two crossings of the Ohio river; camping at Cliff Falls state park and Lincoln Memorial state park; visiting with guides at the old cathedral at Vincennes and also the Clark Memorial; touring the University of Illinois campus and going into the luxurious lounge of the largest girls' dormitories', also swimming, including coaster riding into the water from a high structure resembling a, ski slide at Lake of the Woods state park. It was agreed ahead of time on a penny-a-mile, share of expenses on transportation. The trip totalled 1,105 miles. It was made in two station wagons driven by adult leaders, F. C. Wahl and H. H. Kirk. Scouts completing the two hikes were Dennis Regner, Fred, and Bob Wahl, Randy Hughes, Jim and Bill Kirk and Ray Erickson.
