According to all reports so far, the deer harvest was bountiful. We have not received an overall report on the kill for the thirty-three counties, but cbnservation experts predicted an approximate kill of five hundred deer for opening datf. Well, we jknow of three deer hunters who headed for Michigan's Upper Peninsula last week. They were Vince Adams of McHenry and two friends from the surrounding area. Vince and one of his partners were successful and brought back two nice deer. Fishing in the Fox River and Chain of Lakes has been pretty good lately. Bluegills, crappies, and bass have been hitting regularly near the McHenry dam. Small, wet flies or lice-fishing spoons, with a small piece of pork find or worm seem to be the ticket to good bluegill fishing in Meyers Bay. Reports of a major build-up of diving ducks have reached us from Michigan. Waterfowl experts predict an early flight in Illinois this year. The first big flights usually hit our state about the middle of November, so duck hunters can expect some action shortly. There have been quite a few geese in this' area of late."The only catch is to be in the right corn field at the right time. Pheasant season opens next Tuesday at 12 noon. Next Sunday we are attending a Turkey Run in Elgin sponsored ^ by the Hurricane riders. After the run there will be turkey dinners served for'everyone. We saw movies of our Scrambles Race and Marathon Race which were held the past summer. We have also purchased a set of phones which will be used for future races. This .will be used for contact of one person to the next during the race and will be much easier as it will stop anyone from having to step, out of position to relay messages by hand.
