THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Thursday, November 2D, 195? J&tj £cLft&> (UmAbSi. Grant Township high school will send a couple of basketball teams to our town Friday night for non-conference games that will give the coaches a line on their material. The Grant varsity will have size over our team, but that is something We will see most of the season. Coach Fulton has some?' boys who can pop 'em through from the outside. Don Bentz will be McHenry's tall man. Don is 6'3" tall, plenty strong and real rugged under the baskets. Of course, there is a gloomy note in the picture. Don will graduate at the end of the first semester. Then what? Well, let's enjoy ourselves and generously turn that worry over to the coach. We didn't realize until Ron Smith gave us the word that McHenry travels to Warren Saturday night. Libertyville will be here next Wednesday, November 26. On Tuesday, December 2, Wauconda will be here. So, the ball bounces. There will be plenty of class on the Warrior'squad and lineup shifts can probably be made much easier than last year. The real problem as we see it will be getting the ball off the boards when we run up against tall teams. Terry PUner of Wonder Lake was one of eight Carroll college harriers who received varsity letters the past week. McHenry placed one man, Bob Hauser, on the North Suburban all - star football team which was just announced. Bob was a rugged man at end for Coach Mandli. Our congratulations. Just as sure as turkey season rolls around we get an invitation to join the Johnsburg Tigers and their ladies to enjoy one of those famous feasts at Hettermann's. Results of "Krlstoff Day at Tomasello's Attendance was excellent, both for the afternoon and evening exhibitions and the packed house resulted in a fine time for all. Afternoon results: Following an instruction period, Joe and June Kristof bowled exhibition games with some of our local bowlers. The results are as follows: Teams: Earl Koch 497 Ralph Johnston 478 A1 McMillan 543 Bud Winters 535 Total J. Janotta Carl Neiss H. Loertscher Joe Kristof 2053 486 511 428 568 We joined the happy crowd again this year and had another fine time. Manager Joe Frett recovered fast, but was a bit shook up when Lloyd Freund presented him with a plaque bearing an appreciation inscription and names of all connected with the team. When Lloyd followed up with a well-chosen set of cuff links and tie clasp, Manager Joe quipped that he would have to buy a tuxedo. Total * 1993 Joan May (192-202-160) 558 Connie May (184) 454 Laura Schmitt 454 Total . 1466 Jean Sladek 412 Ardell Brand (191) 480 June Kristof (206-203-180) 589 Total 1481 It is interesting to note that Joan May, who shot 558 in the Kristof match, is the same girl who was written-up in a recent "Plaindealer" for having shot a 256 game in league play in Tomasello's. Joan is improving rapidly and may soon be one of the top bowlers in the area. D. Tyk, 211; Overton, 218: Otto, 533; Abel, 540. , ^ Monday 7:00-- R. Osterby, 527; L. Thennes, 526; R. This is a pins-over-average award that gives every bowler a chance. League secretaries are again asked to make a few notes in sending in scores. We want the unusual happenings and want some indication where a low average bowler has a hot game or series. You might call it the "Over The Head Club." Laverne Stone came up with a real good series last Friday with the Nite Owls with every game a good one: 189-174-202- 565. Rose Kluk, bowling with same group, crashed the pins for a 211 game in a 519 series. Wed. Nlte Twelve L. Bott, 177; A. Grosso, 461; A. Weretka, 441; D. Schmitt, 180-433; M.
