MARY'S St. Mary's Catholic church was the scene of a beautiful wedding on Saturday, Nov. 29, when Miss Joyce Schmitt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Anton J. Schmitt of Rt. 3, McHenry, became the bride of Mr.. Axel Schwanke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Schwanke of Holiday Hills. Rev. Fr. Harold Nilges officiated at the 10 o'clock nuptial service. Bouquets of white chrysanthemums decorated the church. Music was furnished by ,.ih€ children's choir. The bride was attractive in a floor length dress of chanti'ly type lace and nylon tulle, the lace forming a brush train. A double crown of pearls held ih place a silk illusion veil. Attending the bride were Mrs. Betty Wagner of Woodstock, her sister as matron, of honor; Mrs. Virginia Schmitt of McHenry, a sister-in-law; Miss Eileen Stilling, H friend, and Miss Brunhilde Schwanke, sister of the groom, both of McHenry. Linda Schumacher of Cary acted as flower girl for her cousin. The attendants were attired similarly in gowns of jade green taffeta, featuring taffeta skirts and velvet bodices. They wore matching velvet leaf capettes with silk illusion, circular veils and carried chrysanthemums. Gerald Vogel of Richmond, brother-in-law of the bride, Larry Lynn of McHenry and James Umberger of McCullom Lake, friends, and Dave Freund of McHenry, cousin of the bride, attended the groom. The bride's mother selected a blue lace over taffeta sheath dress and a corsage of white orchids. Her accessories were in white. Mrs. Schwanke wore a black dress, a dark hat and an orchid corsage. Dinner was served for thirty members of the bridal party and immediate families at the V.F.W. clubhouse following the service. After 5:30 in the afternoon, 300 guests gathered there for an evening reception. The newlyweds left for Minneapolis, Minn., on a short wedding trip and upon their return will reside at 217 Glenwood, Round Lake. The bride is a 1958 graduate of the McHenry high school and is employed at the First State Bank of Round Lake. The groom graduated from high school in Germany and is now employed at Liberty Petroleum company. JOSEPHINE GILLIGAN Making a name for herself in a modelling career at the early age of 16 is Miss Josephine Gilligan, daughter of Mrs. Anna Gilligan of Riverdale Park, southeast of McHenry. WONDER LAKE GIRL IN ORIENTATION COLLEGE PROGRAM Miss Judith Wielock will soon^ be completing a unique orientation program at Carthage college designed to prepare freshmen for college life. All members of the freshman class are required to take part in this program, and are put into groups of fifteen,,,to twenty students. Each group meets once a week to discuss study techniques, maturity, vocational planning and spiritual values.. Miss Wielock, who is majoring in physical education, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roman Wielock, R. R. 1, Wonr der Lake. for many years, the place, which has recently undergone extensive re-modeling, was a fitting setting for the occasion. Reminiscent of the white roses which Mrs. Burns carried on her wedding day, was the beautiful centerpiece of white roses and mums which graced the buffet table. Miss Marguerite Granger of this city and Kenneth Burns of Chicago were married in the Granger home at 406 Main street, Nov. 29, 1913. They made their home in Oak Park for several years before movj ing to Hollywood, Fla., about thirteen years ago. Robert is their only child and they have two grandchildren, Kenneth, a student in McHenry Community high school, and Richard who attends junior high. Coming as a complete surprise was the arrival of Mrs. Burn's niece, Miss Margaret Ward, from Denver, Colo., whom the honorees had not seen for some time. Others present to extend congratulations and review old times were relatives and old friends from Chicago, Maywood, Wheaton, Elgin and the McHenry area. Mr. and Mrs. Burns left Monday morning by plane for their home, taking with them pleasant memories of an enjoyable weekend. Navy, stationed at Kingsville. He is in the Navy flight program. The couple will reside in Kingsville following a trip to Monterey, Texas. Theif*1 golden wedding anniversary was celebrated with an' open house for family, friends and neighbors last year. George and Eva Unwin were married in 1907 at St. John's Episcopal church, Bloomsbury, London, England. They moved to Canada in 1911 and returned to Chicago in 1923. The Unwin s were summer residents at the Lake from 1935 to 1949 when Mr. Unwin retired and the couple moved here permanently. They have three sons and six grandchildren. Eldest son. George, and family, and son, Bill, and family all live in Chicago. Fred and his family live in Phoenix, Arizona. Crusade Speaker At Ridgefield Church Crusade speaker at the Bible church in Ridgefield on Sunday evening, Dec. 7, at 7:30 o'clock will be Harry Newbrander of the Far Eastern Gospel Crusade. He will tell interesting bits of information regarding the Far East. The Bible church is located 3 miles northwest of Crystal Lake, one mile off Highway 14 on the Ridgefield blacktop. IN MARCHING BAND Miss Audrey Tonyan of Pistakee Bay is a member of the marching band at Marquette university, where she is a junior in the college of liberal arts. The marching band completed its 1958 season Nov. 22 with a guest appearance at Marquette's annual Musical Varieties' program. This is a new project ror the home. It will benefit counselors who have been active with campers for several years and show promise for high school or college work.
