And, how many could ever be carried away to the extent of a wOO series? That's too much. This week we are proud to report that Jack Justen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Justen; hit a 710 series with games of 216-257-237 at McHenry Recreation. Not many can stand the pressure in that' third game with a bigf series going. We join many bowlers and friends in congratulations. Basketball fans saw some real sharp scoring as McHenry beat Libertyville here last week. The story on the game is by Ron Smith, who gives you shooting averages that seem farit&stic. The Warriors went into their usual third quarter tailspin and Qlave set the old time fans to figuring. Maybe our boys don't thrive on that half time rest period. So far it hasn't been too much of a worry because they have plenty left for that fourth quarter stretch drive. We are always wondering where the big fellows are when our basketball squad is listed. fiis year we have our eye on fine young fellow named Bob Vaupell. Bob is listed at 6'- 3M>" and may not have reached his full height. Every restaurant proprietor is familiar with the patron who asks that the beefsteak leavings be put in a b»g "for the Dog." Word reaches us that when & happened on a recent occasion, the small boy in the family spoke up in a shrill and excited voice: "Oh, boy, we gonna get a dog?" Frank Kempfer, who specializes in growing vegetables bigger than John Dreymiller's flowers, is planning a special diet for us. First one is a parsley sandwich. He explains? that 'fbu place that nice green parsley between two thin slices of dry toast and pretend you are eating a steak sandwich. Boy, doesn't that make your mouth water! The Warrior varsity cagers beat Wauconda 77 to 48 Tuesday night while the Frosh- Sophs won 55 to 27. Don Bentz l^as held out of the game due ro a heavy cold. Jack Schaefer was high point man with 13. On the sad side, we have to report that John Steinbach will be lost to the team for a couple of weeks due to an injured ankle. FULTON FIVE IS RB> HOT M WIN OVERWLDCATS Cajthaml Scores 27 As Team Beats .Libertyville 86-79 By RON SMITH Cliff Fulton's "Go-Go" Warriors lived up to their nickname in fine style on Thanksgiving Eve as they defeated a speedy and aggressive Wildcat team from Libertyville 86- 79 in a game which kept fans on edge from start to finish. The victory enabled McHenry to take over first place in the N o r t h S u b u r b a n a l o n g w i t h Zioh and Barrington who defeated Crystal Lake and Woodstock respectively. It was an exciting contest right from the outset. The Warriors were hot in that first quarter and built up a 14-6 lead, but Libertyville bounced right back to make it 22-20 at the end of the quarter. McHenry's Cajthaml hit for 11 points in this period and little Max Sanders of Libertyville contributed 9 -- 7 on free throws. The second period saw the Warriors outscore the Wild cats by a 20-14 margin and hold a 42-34 lead at the half. We shot 43.99r in this half to our opponent's 32.5^. That Third Period As usual, they practically ran us off the floor in the third quarter again and secured a 26-16 r^iargin in that period. This made the score after three periods: Libertyville 60, McHenry 58. The lead changed hands several times during this spree until we bounced back in the 4th quarter to win the contest 86-79. This has been one pleasing change from last year's team because this season we have the ability and stamina to take charge in that final period--something which we definitely lacked last year. Fulton's chargers shot an amazing 50% the second half while the Libertyville team shot an even better 51.4%. You can imagine the rate that basketballs were flying through that hoop. Another interesting factor after 3 games is that the Warriors are averaging 82 points a game to their opponents' 64. This seems to indicate an excellent offense and a somewhat porous defense. Libertyville must be given plenty of credit for their hustle and determination. This was also their first defeat of the 1958 season. Though lacking in height just as we are, their fine out-shooting and ball handling kept them in the game up to the closing minutes. Three of their starters accounted for 63 points, an amazing feat in high school play. Kellogg, who fouled out, had 22, Sanders had 21, and Nicholas contributed 20 to the losing cause. Johns, their highly rated center, was held to 8 points. A1 Cajthaml was high scorer for the second straight game as he hit for 27 points, our individual high for the season. Al's jump shots were accurate and he also had some beautiful drive-ins. He also had 8 assists. Matt Eichinger scored 18 points and led the team in assists and recoveries with 10 and 5 respectively. Matt has been the team's most consistent scorer thus far as he has hit in double figures in each of the 3 gamfes. Steinbach Takes Charge John Steinbach is credited with pulling the team together in that drastic third period and at the beginning of the 4th quarter. John scored 17 points in that second half and sank 7 of 10 field goal attempts for an incredible 70%. Don Bentz made 14 points (some on beautifully executed lay-ups) and pulled in 24 rebounds, his personal high for the season and more, than half of the entire team total. It was another great team performance and it is hoped this will be consistent throughout the year. One thing in w h i c h L i b e r t y v i l l e d i f f e r e d from other teams we have played was their ability to run just as we do and to keep up to our type of game. Wauconda came to town Tuesday night (Dec. 2) for a n o n - c o n f e r e n c e b a t t l e , a f t e r which McHenry will travel to Crystal Lake on Saturday, Dec. 6 to invade the battlegrounds of Coach Menke's Tigers. Crystal Lake has lost three straight so far which seems to indicate that they are weaker than usual. However, they are always rugged, especially agai ist McHenry, and they still retain the conference's leading scorer. John Hess, from last year. It's been quite a while since WP defeated Crystal Lake and wo hope this year's team has the power and know-how to do it. Let's have a lot of hometown fans out to back the team at Crystal Lake Saturday, December 6. Box Score: McHenry (86) SWANI AMATEUR ! DICK STILLING IS HP1HILUI1 CHOSEN.
