Although overwhelme d b y a n e x p e r i e n c e d a n d powerful Crystal Lake team, several M.C.H.S. individuals stand out. Contributing 14 Vi points was Mike Creighton whose efforts produced firsts in the high jump (5'7") and 880 yd.-ruh (2:07.5). Mike also took second in the high hurdles (:16.6) and anchored the mile relay team. Jim Jones, running with 4 straight victories to his credit, continued to win by running mile in 4:58.2, his besf time thus far. Sonny Hocin in the low hurdles (:23.1) and Jim Creighton in the broad jump (17*9") each contributed 1 point to the team total by taking thirds. The mile relay team (D. Antonson, H. Houck, J. Creighton and M. Creighton) got the last five points for M.C.H.S. with ^stirring come-from-bfchind viewy. Their time was 3:40.9. Bob Vaupell came through with a 78, Dick Smith 80, Cam irk 82, and Gary Adams an The Warriois traveled to Libertyvill'e last Friday only to meet defeat at the hands of the Wildcats by a score of 3-L It was our sixth loss in the last seven games and made our conference record 3 wins, 5 josses," and 1 tie. After 2 strikeouts, Jim Smith singled to centerfield, driving in Schaefer with the only McHenry run of the game. After that, McHenry never got a serious threat going though we had a runner on second in 4 of the 6 remaining innings. Libertyville scored all their runs in the fifth inning. After Nicholas* two-run homer, 2 walks and a hit by Curry drove in another insurance rim. Nicholas, Curry, Kellogg and O'Connell had the Wildcat hits. Ron Curry, the pitcher, pitched a terrific ball game, allowing only 5 hits, 1 run, while striking out 14 batters and walking only 3.- He struck out • the side 3 times. This was the first round of A.B.C. 36 hole match play. In first place we saw Floss O'Connel, Let tie Buscher and Mary Rita Stilling with 263; in second place Bette MQSS. Myrt Johnson and Millie Jackson with 266 and in third place Dee Overton, Marion Donnelly and Elsie Olson with 273. The second round of this A.B.C. match play will be played Tuesday. May 26. Tee times will be posted before that date. Low net winners today and the girls who are entitled to wear the pin for, the following week are: Class A -- Dee Overton -- 82; Class B -- Myrt Johnson -- 86; Class C - Mary Rita Stilling -- 91. WARRIORS LOSE TO ELA-VERNON NINE IN NON-CON GAME By Ronnie Smith Coach McCracken started a reserve team in a non-conference game with Ela-Vernon which we lost 5-4 despite i fine performance by a number of thfc second-strihg starters. John Gates, Ben Cnelini and Mike Gantert each had 2 hits while Peterson and Low con tributed 1 apiece. Dan Sompel, the only regular in the lineup had the other hit. Terry Brady made his first start as a pitcher a?id gave up 5 runs in as many innings. He struck out one and walked two. Jim Hester relieved him in the sixth and pitched twe scoreless innings. The Warriors got all their mns in the first inning. Aftei two out, Brady and Chelini walked, putting men on first and second. Mike Gantert singled, driving in Brady. Peterson then singled to right and when the ball went past the right fielder, both Chelini and Gantert scored. Sompel's hit drove in Peterson with the fourth run of the inning. Thereafter, the t§am was held to no runs in 6 innings. A large crowd of about 300 parents and friends were in the audience at the Junior high school last Friday evening to hear the annual spring concert of the school bandy,.directed by Paul R. Raasch. He was presented with a gift from the band. One of the highlights of the program was the appearance of Stanley Vycital, who played a clarinet solo. He also played with his son, Ronald, who is a promising young clarinetist. Baton twirlers, directed by Mrs. Raasch, made several appearances with the band, to th^ delight of the audience. Richard Palmbach acted as master of ceremonies. The regular meeting of the Ninth district of the Department of Illinois, veterans of World War I, will be held Sun-^- day. May 17, at the Legion home at 2:30 p.m. An election of district officers will be held. Many matters of importance vital to the veterans and pending legistlation will be brought up at this time.
