Thursday, September 24, 1959 THE McHENRY PLAINDEALER Pag* Nine Voadar Lake ALL CLEAR ON WATER SAMPLES GIVEN AT LAKE by Jane Ducey -- 2781 ^ are advised by publicity chairman, Rocco Roti, that the Sept. 9 samples taken of the lake and creek by the marine committee of the advisory board yielded results that would indicate the lake pollution to be cleared up. Wonder Center, North and Indian Ridge, South, beaches have the highest coliform count of 6,200. However, this is belov ®the 7,000 which the state considers the maximum allowable pollution. About twothirds of the beaches show a count below 1,000. The mouth of the creek at Sunrise Ridge, however, still had a count of 24,000. , Results of the tests taken Sept. 14 will, be published when received, as will all future teste taken. Testing of the lake wawr will continue as a regullar program of the advisory board. Samples of lake and creek water will be taken every two weeks during the summer months and once a month during the winter, according to Bill Liedtke, chairman of the board. Plan for Peanut Da* Bight Kiwanlans from Woodstwk, headed by President Jack Satorius, and accompanied by Lt. Gov. Rev. Clarence Kerr, were present Monday evening for an inter-club with the Mc- Henry Township club. Plans for Peanut Day were discussed with both clubs looking forward to raising more money for their fund for underprivileged children. £rt Mueller of Island Lake presented a delightful program of song and humor, accompy? ing himself, which was very well received by the group. Art is a member of the McHenry Choral club about which he spoke briefly, telling of the Christmas and Spring concerts put on by organization yearly. Nativity Lutheran Church W News At 7:30 p.m. Sunday, the Luther League will have their annual Youth Sunday program. All young people are invited to take part, and to learn and be inspired by it. There will be a social and refreshments afterward. The Chicago Lutheran Seminary will sponsor a leadership school to be held for six Monday evenings, starting Sept. 28, at the seminary in Maywood. These sesions, which are open to anyone, will start at 7:30 the first meeting, and at 8 p.m. thereafter. Many teachers are planning to attend, but the courses are so varied as to be interesting to anyone else. Call Pastor Schroeder for further information- Pastor's class begins Tuesday evening, Sept. 29. Everyone is welcome to this discussion group which will meet for six Tuesday evenings, at 7:30. Christ the King Church News The Confraternity of Christian Doctrine of Christ the King parish will sponsor a Cana Conference Oct. 11, from 1 to 5:30 p.m. in the parish hall. Rev. William I. Joffe will speak on the "Parent-Child Relationship". All married people in the area are cordially invited to attend. A buffet luncheon will be served during intermission. Nelson for a convex curve and to Mrs. Leon Switzer, who received two; one for a triangle and one for circular lines. A yellow ribbon was won by Mrs. W. Fiala for an electric lighted triangle made of drift wood and dried flowers. A white ribbon to Mrs. W. Kleebert for a right angle table arrangement. After the judging. Mrs. Lehman explained and answered questions on the right and wrong points of each arrangement. Guests included Mrs. Muss Hansen, Mrs. A. Willig and Mrs. E. Burton. Coffee and cake were served by hostess, Mrs. W. Kleebert. New Baby Weisenberger Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. George Weisenberger of Deep Spring Woods on the birth of Kevin George at .Memorial hospital Sept. 14. Hie baby, delivered by Caesarean section, weighed 7 lbs. 4 ozs., at birth. Kevin has two brothers, Kurt (who phoned from Urbana to learn the vital statistics) and Karl, and a sister, Kristine, who will celebrate her eleventh birthday Sunday. Maternal grandfather is Henning Widen of Wonder Lake, and paternal grandmother is Mrs. Jacob Weisenberger of Chicago Heights. Legion Post News Post 1169 will be host to the county council Thursday, Sept. 24, at the dining room of the Circle Inn. The 1960 dues are now payable, and prompt payment of the $3.50 will enable the Wonder Lake post to remain one of the first posts in the county to reach its 100 per cent membership. Nov. 11 is flie goal set for 100 per cent membership, and adjutant, James Kinzie, would appreciate your cooperation. He will mail your card to you at your request. Legion Auxiliary News The September meeting of the Legion auxiliary was held at the home of Mrs. Marion Cannon. Miss Sue Etheridge, who was sponsored by the Wonder Lake auxiliary, gave a delightful resume of her week at Illini Girl's State. All past presidents of the local' unit are requested to contact president Amanda Donash if they are interested in attending the past president's dinner in Hebron Oct. 15, as reservations have to be made in advance. The 1960 dues are now payable, and all members are asked to forward their checks in the amount of $2;75 to Mrs. Jerre Elbersen, secretary. The Roy Swansons and daughter, Carol, took a flying eight day vacation to the Black Hills and Badlands of the Dakotas, Estes Park and Denver in September. Our "back to school" mothers are at it again -- Pat Wrede, Betty Selsdorf and Gladys Gustavson -- commuting to Elgin Junior college where Pat and Gladys have a course one night a week, and Betty is enrolled in courses meeting two evenings a we^k. Belated birthday greetings to Harriette Bell on Aug. 30. 'twas her thirty-ninth: to Ray Roohowicz on Sept. 2. and to Walterine on Sept. 15. Guests in the James Bell household over the Labor Day weekend were their son, Jim, who is in Naval Electronic school in Memphis, and Lynn Cheney, a Naval cadet stationed in Memphis enroute to Texas, and Stephanie Masten of La Grange. Jim and Lynn, old friends since Harrison school days, crossed paths in Memphis and had a chance to come home for a brief period. Mrs. Buster Young of Oakland, Calif., is visiting with John and Mary Foy for two weeks and is well impressed with our Wonder Lake area. Mrs. Young and Mrs. Foy are sisters and this is their first reunion in fourteen years. Mary's sister had to come and get acquainted with her remarkable nephew -- this baby has been walking® since he was two months old! Don and Audrey have another daughter, Dorothy, who is 16 months old. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Thurneau of Wonder Center Sept. 6 at Memorial hospital. The Wonder Lake Catholic Women's Bridge club held their first meeting of the new season at the home of Alice Condren. High score for the evening was won by Joanne Higgins and the low went to Harriet McCall. Others present were Marie Shrosbree, Betty Selsdorf, Harriet Van Kanegan, Lorraine Houda and Mary Ann Christy. The evening was completed by the hostess serving delicious cake and coffee. Next month they will meet at the home of Lorraine Houda.
