Fred Karls of this city, which took place at St. Michael's church, Chicago, last Wednesday. Col. Mack Willard, travelling in his own jitney deluxe, oroved quite an attraction in McHenry the first of the week. Mr. Willard is seven feet in height and weighs 300 pounds. He put on the Willard-Dempsey pictures at the Empire theatre Tuesday night. Miss Corabel M c O m b e r, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. L. McOmber of DeKalb, a product of the. McHenry high school, is now one of the teachers in the Woodstock high school. Dr. and Mrs. Arnold F. Mueller of Johnsburg, were tendered a homecoming surprise Wednesday evening, with thirty-five guests present. Dr. Mueller has rented the rooms over the N. H. Petesch drug store, where he will open an office in the near future. Miss Elsie Smith has returned to her duties at the Hoy bank, after an extended vacation with relatives in the West. YEAR'S DONATION TO CARE CLOSE TO HALF MILLION Residents of Illinois contributed $474,934 to CARE overseas aid programs during the fiscal year ended June 30, according to the report issued today by Executive Director Richard W. Reuter. The nearly half-million dollar total constituted over 6 per cent of the $7,909,230 contributed by the American people as a whole during the year for CARE aid to twenty-eight countries. Thirty percent of all donations. or two-and-a-half times the 2 percent figure of the previous year, were made., in support of the CARE self-help program. This enables the non- I profit overseas aid agency to deliver tools, machinery and i equipment, books and school j supplies to needy villages and I settlements in underdeveloped j areas of the world. Inclusive of farm foods put i at the disposal of CARE by the j U. S. Government for overseas | relief, the total value of supplies shipped by CARE during the year reached $40,000,000.
