For this reason, the committee headed by Frank Poledna and ably assisted by his spouse and the hardworking Hammersteins, Louise and Ed, have clecided to try Sunday afteiVbons. beginning on Sept. 27 at 3:30 p.m. in the beachhouse. These four people . are tremendously enthused about this project and" are convinced it will work! But they need the support of each and even- resident in the community. You can do your share by reserving Sunday afternoons for ai. few hours of fun, and thereby assis^ ig YOUR community!! Oil and Gravel for Bad Roads A the last meeting of the village board held on Monday, Sept. 14. the contract for road repairs was awarded. A scant few days later, the road crews were on the job--scarifying, grading, and oiling the bad spots. This puts our streets in fine condition. If the winter do^fci't prove to be too severe, they should hold up well until spring. Floyd Fry, president of the McCullom Lake Sportsmen's club, petitioned the board to consider a grant of funds to help defray the cost of lake restoration. This will be taken under advisement by the trustees and the president. The next meeting will take plaK on Monday, Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. in the beachhouse. The public is invited. It's social night at the Ladies of the Lake meeting tonight, Thursday, at 8 p.m. and every gal in the village is cordially invited. Games have been planned and refreshments will be served later. Plans are under way for the "feather party" to be held in November so reserve the fourteenth for a night of fun. It will be held at McDonald's this year. Lake Re-Stocking' Under Way Last Thursday, the conservation department of the state of Illinois began re-stocking the lake with blue gills and bass. It will be completed in 3-4 weeks. The Sportsmen's Club appeals to each and every fishing enthusiast to please hold off with rod 'n' reel until 1961. By that time the fishing will be excellent! When' the lake is thrown open for use. the more it is fished--the better it will be. Every one will benefit-- if patience is exercised. On the subject of the Sportsmens club--remember the annual dance wihch will be held on Saturday. Oct. 24 at the Wing N' Fin. Dinners will also be available in order to satisfy the inner man. Should be a "swellegant" time. Attend Convention Mrs. Jean McDonald and gal pal, Mrs. Caroline Justen of McHenry, departed Monday evening, by car--destination Peoria and the Pierre Marquette hotel. They attended the convention of the McHenry County Liquor Dealers association which was in session until Wednesday. Last evening, a dinner was held for all officers and delegates. Proud "Grandparents" With buttons bursting, Marie and Vic Howe, announce the arrival of their newest "grandchild"-- a boy--born to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest LaBrecque of Island Lake on Monday, Sept. 14^*he little fellow, who is to be called Guy Ernest,, tipped the scales at a nice round 7 lbs. and arrived at Lake Forest hospital. There is no blood relationship between the two families, but the Howes have "adopted" the whole kit and kaboodle! They couldn't feel any more love for all of them if it was their own family. Works out fir«| both ways. The LaBrecques have three daughters, Theresa, Marie and Martha--and now the wonderful gift of a son! For a bonus gift, husband Ernest presented his beloved wife with a beautiful modernistic grey bedroom suite. According to Marie and Vic, the new addition is the handsomest lad ever seen! * Ladies Will Meet Tonight Perserverance Plus!! Undaunted by the fact that she didn't make it the first time she applied for her driver's license, Alice Gustafson went home with head held high and determined not to flunk again! She and husband. Conny, "hit the road" including a 300-400 mile trip through Illinpis so Alice could practice. She worked on backing up and parking until it became second nature. On Tuesday of 1 ast week, she returned to Woodstock and passed with flying colors! Speaking of pluck this gall sure has it! Her advice to all is "nothing ventured--nothing gained"! Travellers--Here and There' Whitey Bjork and Ole Olsen arrived home from their fishing trip to Conover, Wis., on : Saturday afternoon with less i than complete enthusiasm. It ' seems as though the weather was cold and the fishing not very good. They managed to bag a few and brought some home for family consumption. From the reports of fishermen who have made the trip, this has been the worst summer in many years.. Ole came home in time to greet old family friends. Ruby and Ed Sims, who drove up from Louisville, Ky„ to visit. These two families became acquainted when the Olsens called Louisville their home tow|i. On Sunday the two couples journeyed to Rockford to renew acquaintances with Ruby and Ed's friends whom they haven't seen in twenty-three years. Strictly old home week. Coast Travellers Home A wonderful vacation in California ended for Mrs. Ken Ingersol-- better known as Corky --and daughters Dawn and Carol, and son Kevin, last week. The family was visiting? with Jone's aunt Lil. The girls were thrilled with the scenery and they all "lived it up". Correction Miss Phyllis Piotrowski and Dennis Straumann will plight their troth at St. Pat's church instead of St. Mary's -- as was reported last week. This reporter would hate to have all the Quests waiting at the wrong church!! He is a pet raccoon that Bill found on his way to work one morning on the Crystal Lake blacktop, obviously abandoned by its mother. According to the vet, "Snookv" had just recently been weaned. He has made a very desirable pet and follows Bill everywhere. Snooky is especially fond of marshmallows, of all things! Correction In last week's paper it was stated that if you were interested in joining the Lilymoor Association the dues were eighteen dollars. This does include the weekly garbage disposal, but it does not include road maintenance. Every year additional money is collected for road maintenance and the amount differs froni year to year.
