Remember the Plaindealer report covers only games thru the previous Sunday. Minor League Lenny Blake's Owls took over 1st place with a 3-0 record by defeating the Eagles 12-7 and the Orioles 10-5. The latter game could have been a rout except for the fine defensive play by the Orioles that cut down two runners at the plate. In other games the Bluebii^ls beat the Cardinals 14-7 and the Eagles defeated the. Falcons 12-2. Major League The highlight of the week was the 3 hit shut Out pitching of Ron Parks as the Owls beat the Orioles 6-0. Ron struck out 13 batters as he led the Owls to their second victory of the week. Paul Adams was the victim of some shaky support as he pitched well for the Orioles. Rick Jager, Dick Doherty, and Jack Hester collected two hits for the Orioles while Paul Diedrich had two for the Orioles. Paul is playing his first year in the majors and so far has four hits in seven at bats in addition to playing excellent defensive ball. Jim Pierson pitched the Owls to a 15-7 win over the* Eagles with Ron Parks collecting ALGONQUIN NIPS SHAMROCKS 2-1 IN 11 INNINGS Fast Crystal Lake Team Here Sunday For Real Battle Last Sunday the Shamrocks went down to their fourth straight league loss to Algonquin 2-1 in eleven innings. Jim Wickencamp pitched the first four and one-third innings giving up no runs and one hit. Paul Casten then pitched the rest of the game for the Shamrocks and was tagged with the. loss. Paul pitched fine ball, striking out 9 and walking six while allowing only one earned run. . Roger Tinder was the batting star of. tW game with two doubles. The Shamrocks had six extra base hits in this game, five doubles, and one triple. Roger Benson had the only Shamrock single of the game. x The Shamrocks scored their only run of the game in the third when Schaefer doubled and Gene Freund hit a long triple. ; On Saturday, June 25th, the three hits and Bob Funk and shamrocks travel to Zion.
