The McHenry Little League All Star team will play the Fox Lake Little League All Stars By Jack Buckie Last weekend saw some of the finest golf that has been played on our course all year. There were some 70 s and 7l's turned in, -but the two outstanding rounds were played by Paul Qyerton and Ralph Bennett whb had 2-under par 69's. That's real shooting, especially whett you consider the tough pin placements on some of the holes> put there by "Mike" and his crew of "meanies.". (By the way. "Mike" is to be congratulated on the fine shape the course is in despite the almost impossible weather conditions he has had to contend with all spring. I guess ten or twelve years of schooling under A1 Purvey really paid off. I don't have the detail^ on how Bennett got his 69. but I understand Overton got an Eagle 3 on 17 and a Birdie 2 on 18 to wrap up his fine round. Trouble is. those poor guys will be out there trying for 68's frojgri now on. As^ Vale Adams told me once, he's been trying for years to figure out how to get around in 18 shots, and until he does, he's going to keep trying. Well, that's what mak£s golf such an interesting game. Low net winners for last Sunday were as follows: Bennett, 64; Knaack, 66; Falcon. 64; Moss and Say nor, 67; Bishoff, 66; Reihansperger and Betjeman, 71. Winners of the odd hole net competition were Every Saturday Night STOCK CAR RACES Rourke. 31. and Bishoff and Falcon. 32. Results of the third round of the Past President"! tourney are as follows: F. Johnson beat Rink; Betjeman beat Larkin, Sayler beat Rourke, Adams beat Overton. Sorry to see our fine neighbor to the north. Bill Maipede of Pistakee Golf club with his left arm in a sling. He claims he bought a drink for a customer with that arm, and put it in a sling for punishment: but I have it on good authority that he strained a muscle in his arm carrying his deposit to the bank. Julio Goffo tells me that Bob Shaw of the White Sox could easily become a home run king in the Majors if he could hit a baseball as far as he hits a golf ball. It seems that Shaw and his dad and Gene Freese of the Sox played 18 holes at our club on Monday, July 11, and Goffo swears he's never seen a man hit a ball any farther than Shaw. (I guess Julio never heard of Art Jackson). Wednesday. July 13, was Republican Day at the club with Governor Stratton as guest of honor. There were several hundred GOP members on hand, but I understand a few Democrats managed to get in, also. Of all things, the Grand Prize was won by a,youngster named Frank Gende who has been voting for the losing candidates in McHenry County for more years than he'd want me to mention. Another Democrat present was told by Joe Frett that he was pleased to see him at the outing, and he remarked. "I iust love to attend ' f a r e w e l l ' p a r t i e s . Second was taken by Valeria Peterson and Lynn Hartmann, arid third by- Rickey Looze and Joe Buralli. Saturday morning at 11 the cubs again sailed. Although Henry and Fran won, they were given some stiff competition by Danny Arkema who sailed his first race of the season. Following Danny, in third position, was Valeria with Lynn. After the cut) race the skippers manned the C boats for what seemed like an endless race. Through the miserable winds and hot weather Ron Schloemer came through the victor. Second vVas taken by Don Looze, and third was captured by Sid Peterson. Sr. After the miserable race the sailors came back to the club for a delicious ham and yam dinner served to them by Mr. and Mrs. Harry Pierson and their committee of: Mr. and Mrs. JRay Olson, Ml\ and Mrs. Clarence Ericsson,' Mr. and Mrs. William Ericsson, Mr. arid Mrs. Clarence! Sundburg, Miss Caryl Ericsson'and Frank Waters. After dinner there was dancing and th^ celebrating of two anniversaries and one birthday. A1 Barbian cojrbrated his birthday, and me anniversaries of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Carey and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Nelsen were .also celebrated. Sunday morning at 11 there was a C boat race which was won by Jerry Schloemer, who sailed a beautiful race; coming from the back Jerry went from second to last to win on the last beat up w^l. Second was taken by Chuck Warning , and third was taken by Don Looze. In the afternoon a tricky maneuver was made by. the judges as they managed to conduct the Mixed Crew "Trophy C boat race, and the Sunday Series E boat race at the same time. The Schloemers in their E boat were the winnms, with Don Looze sailing Armstrong's boat in second and the Petersons in third. In the Robert Ludford Mixed Crew race!" the winner was Norm Reese and Hedy DeYoung. Next weekend will be the regular series races, and a French party is on the agenda. it short. After all. I don't want to put any additional strain on your eyeballs if I can help it. MARRIAGE LICEXSES% Lionel V. Steffen, McHenry, and Veronica Laskowski, Chicago.
