S-SS27 REGISTER AT JOHNSBURG PUBLIC SCHOOL AUG. 22-23 Registration for new students in the Johnsburg public schoo^ District 12. will be held at the Johnsburg school Monsdpy and TUgsddy, Aug. 22 atid 23, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Tuesday, Aug. 23, registration will also be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Students who attended the Johnsburg public school last year, or who registered this spring for kindergarten, need not register now. All fees will be paid the first day of school. The nomination for the officer of your choice will be open to you on Aug. 19, the night of the EMPOA meeting. They are open until the first Friday of September. You may nominate your choice by putting his or her name on a slip of paper with the office, the signature of the candidate, and your signature. This is important because these are the rules. Nominations are also open from the flpor. Remember that the elections take place on Sept. 16 and all nominations must be in then and you must be there to vote for your favorite. Women's Club The tickets of the fashion show of the year presented by your own Eastwood Manor Women's club may be obtained from Marilyn Salo and any of her committee. The gals really have worked on this one and we should all get in there with them and make it a big day. August Dance The dance which was to be held Aug. 13 has been cancelled for a number of reasons, the foremost being that we could not acquire a band in time to make all the other arrangements. We are hoping for a big dance in October to make up for this one. The Shaw clan just returned from two delightful weeks in Eagle River, Wis., with Doris' folks, Mr. and Mrs. fioward Tarnow, and her brother. David, who is on furlough from IFt. Hood, Texas. The weather I was beautiful. The Mathes family had two vacations in one. First they spent one week with Dan's parents in Memphis, Tenn. and then they went" on to spend another week with Helen's mother in Helena, Ark. Billy Freckman celebrated his fourth birthday with twenty- five little friends and some of their parents for an outdoor luncheon. The Thienes family enjoyed a visit from George's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bill. Cary. and their three children of Evansville, Ind., for one week. Lois Ryan's sister, Marion Anderson, enjoyed lunch at the Ryan home and then her husband, Ray, joined her and the Ryans for dinner. Next week we welcome Dee Penick home from her vacation and back to the column. Thanks everyone for being so nice for the past two weeks. Spring Grora ARTIST WINS four awards at LAKE COUNTY FAIR by Mrs. Charles Freund Kenny Arnold, son of Mrs. Yvonne Arnold, won four awards for his presentation of four paintings at the Lake county fair in Grayslake. His ^chib:ts - paintings done in oil - were shown in the building of fine arts. He won two blue ribbons for his snow scene with t illage and church and a modern abstract. Red ribbons were awarded his landscape and farm scene and a marine setting with old time sailing ships. Annual Family Reunion Tne thirty-third annual Shotliff-Wilford reunion .was held on ,Sunday, July 31. at the home of Mr. and IVIrs. William Shotliff. A picnic dinner was served on the lawn and the afternoon was spent at visiting and reminiscing. MANY COMPLETE ^HOSPITAL'S NEW PARENTS' COURSE Outing at Brown's Lake Mrs. Catherine Kagan was hostess to the members of her club at a picnic luncheon held inn the picnic area of the Franciscan monastery near Burlington, Wis., on Thursday. A luncheon of fried chicken and salads was enjoyed at noon. The afternoon was spent touring the grounds and visiting the various 'beautiful shrines and the mission chapel. . Visitors Father'Eugene Jung and Mr. and Mrs. John Jung visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Brown several days last week. Nick Wagner and daughter. Carol,- of Chicago and Mrs. Nell Hawkins of Arizona spent the weekend with Mrs. Alice Wagner. Birth Mr. and Mrs. Tom Strausser are the happy parents of a daughter, born Friday, July 29. The baby has been named Sherry. She has a little sister, Terry, age 2, to welcome her home. Fathers of future McHenry county generations are accepting roles as parents with deep interest if the high percentage of husbands enrolled in McHenry hospital's "From Here to Maternity" course is any criterion. This observation was made bv Dr. Bennett Berman, staff obstetrician, w h o presented the four-session course, which ended recently. Dr. Berman reported that almost one-third of the mothersto- be in the capacity class of twenty-four were accompanied by their husbands. The seven expectant fathers, along with their wives, heard lectures on female anatomy, the pregnancy period, delivery, and care of the baby. The classes were augmented, by "open discussion and visual aids. Dr. Berman stated that this first course was conducted l a r g e l y a s a n e x p e r i men t . Based on the large enrollment and the comments of the first "graduating" class, it was successful and it will be repeated in alternate months with some modifications, he added. According to comments on a questionnaire, the major benefits derived from the series was a deeper understanding of labor and delivery. The majority of the women enrolled already had children. Average age of the mothers was 28. Dr. Peter Griesbach, hospital pediatrician, and Mrs. Griesbach, a registered nurse, assisted Dr. Berman in the lecture series. The next course of four classes will begin Sept. 6. Sessions will be held on Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. Those interested in enrolling may do so by contacting Dr. Berman's nurse, EVergreen 5-1050. There will be no charge for the course.
