Albert and Eleanor Siers, and Jack and Virginia Verstege had a very good time at a picnic recently in Fox River Grove. . . . John and Lois Wick from New York City stopped out to visit the Ray Moores. About twenty-five guests attended a buffet dinner on Sunday at the Clausens. It was a Past Matrons Officers Club meeting of the Eastern Stars. Loretta and Charles Ramage were also guests. John and Daisy Smith attended a Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce dinner. The W i l s o n s e n t e r t a i n e d Joyce and Howard Lexow for a weekend. . . . Dr. and Mrs. Edald Iwick and daughter, Carol, from Lincolnwood paid a surprise visit to the Muellers. ... Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Reznicek and son, Gary, from Elmhurst and Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Reznicek and daughters, Judith, Karen and Janet, from LaGrange Park came out to help Emily celebrate her birthday. A nice afternoon was spent playing cards. Mrs. John B. Smith attended the V.F.W. Department of Illinois membership kick-off dinner in Chicago a week ago Saturday. Bob and Noelann Schweikert and children, Alan and Kathie, from Maywood spent the weekend with Agnes and Clarence. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Guy's granddaughter, Val, age 5 years, spent the weekend with them. Here tell grandpa claims grandma spoils her terribly. (But isn't that what grandmas are for?) A few ladies spent an evening of sewing at Louise Winters home. The busy gals were Audrey Whiting, Delores Stark, June Keatky and Alice Brunke. Mr. and Mrs. M. Kallas, Tulias Zeimet's mother and' dad, were out for a nice dinner. Daisy Smith visited Judge Cooney's house, and later attended a luncheon at Woodstock Country club in honor of Governor Stratton and his wife. The Joe Reznicek, Jr., and family came and took the Senior Reznicek for a pleasant trip to Wisconsin. a Tech-Sgt. in the Marine corpis. Charlie is ,a pattern maker by trade and when he has spare time he enjoys woodworking and boats. Elsie also attended Morton high. Besides being a mother and housewife she enjoys gardening. Both are members of McHenry Shores club. Beach Duty Rounding out the summer schedule for beach duty on Sept. 25 we should find Carl Simonsen, John McKelly, Fred Dodge, John Hinz and John B. Smith. Don't forget the time, 9 a.m. Sunday morning. Bon Voyage Louise Winters and daughters, Mary Ann, are off to visit relatives in Philadelphia. Happy landings. And In Closing: The McHenry Fire department came recently to put out a brush fire that started near the home of Carl Kleine. It spread almost to the corner of Grandview Drive and Hilltop boulevard. There was no real damage done, so we can be thankful for that. In the future, let us all be a little more careful, about burning papers, grass or. weeds. Bye for now. Tests . were made during August on 1,829 samples of various kinds of seed and 1,724 samples of soil. Plant inspections totaled 229 nurseries, 2,215 acres of nursery stock and 57,500 square feet of greenhouse stock. Over 100 distinctive truebreeding species of dogs are recognized. Holiday Hills INFORM CLUB MEMBERS PROPER VOTE PROCEDURE Rita Oleyar - EV. 5-4768 ;An extremely inform a ti v e discussion of the importance of casting your ballot highlighted the regular monthly meeting of the Woman's Club, Wednesday evening, Sept. 14, at the Lutheran church in Island Lake. Speakers for the evening included Mrs. Mary Liebman of Bull Valley, representing the League of Woman Voters, McHenry unit; and Messrs. Jones, Herman and Kraus from the McHenry Kiwanis Club. All of the speakers demonstrated the correct way to mark a ballot to avoid having your vote cancelled out because of a spoiled ballot. They also emphasized the importance of voting -in primary as well as general elections. Mrs. Liebman particularly urged all the women to register at once, and to see that their husbands do the same. Larrame Bemis, our local registrar, introduced the speakers. The program was arranged by Jeanne Baird, program chairman. Games rounded out the evening. Hostesses were. Helen Suman, Jean Stoddard, Shirley Haufe and Midge Teuber. On the Sick List Jim Harper, our ever busy deputy sheriff, was put to bed in the McHenry hospital for a few days by his doctor for observation and tests. He is now resting at home, and at last r e p o r t was f e e l i n g b e t t e r , though still not up to par. Sub-teens Hold Pajama Party Sharon I^arie entertained a group of her sub-teen and 'teen friends at a pajama party Friday night, Sept. 9. The girls started off the evening with a delicious dinner cooked by Sharon's mother, then off to bed, but not to sleep, we're sure, for a long time. Breakfast next morning was cooked by the girls themselves. Guests included .Patty Matt, Becky Hughes, tiftnda Abbink, Cheryl Gilliland and Becky Oleyar. Girl Scout Neighborhood Chairman Jean Weyland, mother of Margaret, who is one of our Troop 478 Scouts, and Didi, a Troop 454 Brownie, has agreed to serve as chairman for Valley View Neighborhood, Sybaquay Girl Scout council. Her job will consist of supervising all scout activities in the McHenry area, and acting as liaison between the local troop and the Elgin council office. Jean has served on the Brownie troop committee for several years, has been a Day Camp leader, and was a Cub Scout mother for two years. She is always willing to help in troop activities, and will prove a capable leader in the girl scout organization.
