Shamrocks Pitch And Hit Boys Win From Dundee 7-5 Memorial Day the McHenry Shamrocks defeated Dundee by a score of 7-5 behind the fine relief pitching of Ron Mcuer. Mauer pitched the final four and one third innings of one run, three hit baseball. Paul Morenz, Mike Collins, and Jack Schaefer were the batting stars of the game for the Shamrocks. Morenz and Collins paced our 12 hit attack with three hits apiece, wit h Morenz driving in two runs. Jack Schaefer drove in the lead run in the eighth with a two run triple. Tom McAuliffe also chipped in two hits for the Shamrocks. Last Sunday the "Shamrocks were idle due to the league's' all star game at Dundee. Gene Freund, Jack Schaefer, and Chuck Pierce were chosen by their teammates to represent the Shamrocks at the all star game. McHenry playing Cary-Grove "at Cary. McHenry roster consists cf the following boys: John Corso, Bill DeCicpo, Rex Hester, Ray Franklin, Bob Fletcher. Harry May, Dick Himpelman, John Rourke, Paul Morenz, Vern Petersen, Dave Klapperich, Ted Freund, Bob Harris, John Hiller, Lloyd Smith and Al Kempfer. Paul Morenz opened the season by pitching a no-hitter. He faced 28 batters in 7 innings. This is the second no-hitter the local legion team has had as they finished against Algonquin last year with a no-hitter. Pitcher Vern Petersen at that time faced 27 batters. Why not come out and watch some of these games? The boys have the spirit and talent, all they need is someone in the bleachers. Dick Doherty of the Owls and Tim Freund. of the Cardinals were tied 1-1 at the end of the regulation -six innings. Little League rules permit a pitcher to pitch not more than six innings per week so John Anderson, who pitched two perfect innings for the Cardinals, got the win when Terry Rogers doubled home two runs in the eighth.
