Mrs. Henry Passf ield, t he former Ann Eliza Vasey, died at her home near Volo Oct. 2. at the age of 60 years, and Mrs. Gertrude Uecker. sister of Math and Henry Heimer of McHenry, passed away at her home in Chicago last week at the age of 74 years. Holiday Hills AWAIT PERMIT TO CONSTRUCT NEW PILLARS Entrance Of Subdivision To Be Enhanced Inez Young The Woman's club has finally received official permission to erect the pillars at the entrance, and as soon as a building permit is received from Woodstock, actual work will commence. It is hoped that the weather will hold out so that the pillars can be started this fall. This will surely do a lot to improve the appearance of the entrance to our subdivision. Pre-Halloween Party The Holiday Hills Woman's club held their annual' Halloween party on Wednesday, Oct. 11, at St. John's Lutheran church. The ladies came up with some real rare costumes. Among them were a gorilla, a bunny rabbit, a kitten, a hobo. Mae West and many more. The eostumers paraded before the officers who were the judges and prizes were awarded to Vi Abbink, Lorraine Bemis and Inez Young. Business for the evening included requests for cupcakes and doughnuts for the children's Halloween parade which will conclude at the lake beach with a bonfire and refreshments served. Another request was made for cakes (no box mixesV for the next meeting, held on Nov. 8, when we will have a cake sale. - Ladies, please bring guests. The business meeting was followed by dunking for apples, games and refreshments served by Chadie Ary, Connie Catanzaro, Ellen Erickson and Josephine Janik. Road Improvements Jim Harper had the assistance of Hal Breede, Herb Landis, Earl Stoddard and Jack White on the cold patch repair work on the holes on Sunset Drive. The Holiday Hills Proj>erty Owners association has paid for the materials used for this improvement. More Improvements The Girl Scouts of Troop 478 of Holiday Hills used their last meeting day to dig flower beds in the shape of the Girl Scout emblem at the River Bend beach, and will soon plant them with bulbs. Please be kind enough not to disturb these beds because next spring they will surely beautify the area. The girls also plan to put flower beds in the park area at the end of the lake channel on Pine and Lilac streets. Boy Scouts The Boy Scouts of Troop 132 went back to the Chain O* [ Lakes state park again on Oct. 7 and 8. A fine time was had by all, what with good food and no rain such as they had on their last trip. With the trees beginning to color and a clear night, the camp-out was a huge success. Happy Birthday Dawn Heise had a big day Sunday, Oct. 8, when she celebrated her fifth birthday and lost her first tooth all in one day. The birthday was celebrated with a dinner for Grandma and Grandpa Heise, Grandma and Grandpa Godfrey, Great-Grandmother, T e a g u c, Godparents, Bob and Dolores Anders, and their children, Robin and Billy, and Toots and Allen Nickolay and their children, Terry Lee and Colleen. The party was a success and the tooth was sent to fairyland for inspection. A bejated happy birthday to Bill Boettcher on his twentyfirst birthday, Oct. 13. Have you registered yet, Bill? Attend Wedding Lorraine Bemis, accompanied by Edna Holman, traveled to Macomb, 111., to attend the wedding of Lorraine's niece, LuAnn Doll, to Harold Brown of Monmouth, 111. The wedding was hel4 in the R^E. church of Macomb at 4 Pm. on Sunday, Oct. 8. A recent study by a Chicago safety board revealed that the average driver must make 100 decisions every mile that he drives. These 100 decisions make him take some sort of action 20 times a mile -- mostly defensive moves. Engagement Mr. and Mrs. A. Ahlgrim announce the engagement of their daughter, Joyce, to Roger S.
