Of course, everyone was in favor of it, so it will be held this weekend at the Hopp house. The major project coming up for the club is a road rally. I will explain what a road rally is for those who don't already know. A road rally is a timed drive. It is just like taking an afternoon ride. Of course, it is timed but all speed limits must be followed. A special course is set up and information sheets pertaining to the course are given to all contestants. When the contestants leave the start line the time is taket^ down and when they cross the finish line the time is taken. This gives us the time it took the contestant to run the course. This time is compared with the time we have. Our time was taken under normal conditions, following' the rules. The contestant with the closest to the average time wins. There will be first, second and third place trophies given away. The entry fee per car is SI.00. For more information, call EV 5-1379. And they're being carted to junk piles - - or, worse yet, kept in the basement as an extra cabinet, or left in the back yard -- at a rate of about a million a year. How can mishaps be avoided? 1. Teach children to stay away from discarded cabinets. 2. Remove the door if you discard a cabinet. 3. Remove latch stops so the doors can't lock. This can be done, usually, by removing a few screws. 4. Drill holes in the cabinet and remove the rubber basket around the door. "Better yet," the Council said "destroy the cabinet." Most states have legislation prohibiting abandoning, discarding or storing the. death-deal ing devices where they can become coffins for children, the Council pointed out. The 1961 CARE Food Crusade was opened for the midwest with the announcement by Norman Ross, member of the Midwest CARE committee, that the non-profit overseas aid agency is seeking public support for the distribution of 5,000,000 food packages to needy people in seventeen countries. "Because hunger hurts, it is. still the chief enemy of too many people of the world," said Ross. "CARE plans to help feed over 3,500,000 people for six to twelve months, while an a d d i t i o n a l 3 . 1 0 0 . 0 0 0 p e r s o n s will share in emergency package distributions. The seventeen c o u n t r i e § where deliveries of Food Crusade packages are to be made include Afghanistan, West Berlin, Colombia, Ecuador.
