Sunnyside Estates SCOUT TROOP 144 WINS RED RIBBON <&T FALL CAMPOREE Polly Stevens - 385-1250 Word was received recently titot at the fall camporee held <*)«. 6, 7 and 8 near Marengo. Troop 144 placed tenth in a competitive field of thirty troops. Their reward was a^red ribbon, earned by the combined efforts of every lad for the various Scouting skills such asf: first aid, nature lore, etc. We can be very proud of Troop 144. Congratulations to yoi: and Scoutmaster Ray Jensen. Coming Event The McHenry Choral ,Club of over fifty voices will present a program Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 2 and M at 8:15 p.m. in-'the McIIenry high school auditorium. It will be a Christmas program of international carols and songs, and selections by the entire ensemble as well as the women's and men's c!j0ruses will be heard. Tickets may be obtained from Fran Olsen, Donna and Ray Jensen, Gunnar Johansen, Dale Muule or at the door for a small fee. Reminder Don't forget the food demonstration that is being sponsored by the Pistakee Highlands Women':- club on Thuvsd^/. Nov. 30. The meeting will iJPheld at 7:30 p.m. at Ihr community hall in Johnsburg. The food prepared as well as recipe books will be given away. Tickets may be purchased at the door. A Success The bake sale held Saturday Nov. 11. was very successful due to the efforts of Chairman U«nadine Grist and her committee who were Bernice Fry, Fran Fuqua, Carol Kennebeck, Lorraine Major and Mary Rose. The response of all our residents was very gratifying in the donations and the purchase of the goodies. A low bow to Carol Kennebeck for the use of her home and to all those who worked so hard also to Steve Major, Jr. for b%ig "pick-up" boy. Brownie News The impressive investiture ceremony of Troop 150 took place Tuesday evening, Nov 14. Brownie pins were presented to Pam Boeger, Kathleen Brennan, Linda Hosier. Marie Karsten. Mary Jo Kennebeck, Gloria Kuncl, Heidi Mayer, Kathy Pflug, Audrey Seliga a£l Rhoda Schultz by Leaders Alice Bieschke, Sylvia Obslfelder and Marian Pflup. Karen Hettermann acted as mistress of ceremonies and introduced each girl as she was presented her year pin. These girls were Kathy Harrington, Connie J. Jablonski, .Regina Kern, Mary Jane Lakowske. Debbie Obstfelder, Doreen Patterson, Nancy Roggenbuck. Lw>nie Schneider and Debbie Stall. Laura Smolinski was ill and unable to attend but will receive her year pin at the next meeting. LaVerne Noah was presented with a lovely necklace in appreciation of her work as a leader last year. After the ceremony coffee, milk and cakes furnished by Kathleen Brennan, Linda Hosier, Marie Karstens and Audrey Seliga were served to the Brownies, leaders and proud parents. Girl Srout News Troop 295 enjoyed the Wednesday, Nov. 15. meeting very much. They were treated to a pizza demonstration by Mr. Barth and got to eat the results. Some time in the future each girl will make her own pizza. There was a discussing of badges and plans started for %l Christmas party. Saturday, Nov. 4, was the first of twelve lessons in roller skating to bo used toward a roller skating badge. The hike on Nov. 11 was c a n c e l l e d b u t a n o i h e r i -- planned for the near future. The meeting was conducted by Mi-s. Barth and Mrs. Dehn assisted by Mrs. Patterson. He stopped at St. Therese Tuesday, Nov. 14, to leave an 8 lb.. 5 oz. bundle of masculinity answering to the name of Charles Edward Schneider. Karen and P. A Granddaughter Nov. 3 was the day Heddie and Jim Haninger's eleventh grandchild decided to make her a p p e a r a n c e . M a r i a T h e r e s e Fruin, weighing 8 lbs., 15 ozs.. was born at 5:45 a.m. in Hines. The Haningers' daughter and son-in-law, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Fruin, are now the parents of two girls and three boys. C o n g r a t u l a t i o n s , G r a n d m a , Grandpa and parents. A Daughter That reluctant little lady, Miss Hope Kathleen Smith, FINALLY made her appearance. She was very considerate and waited until after church school Sunday, Nov. 12, to announce her impending arrival. Rev. and Mrs. Smith made a flash for McHenry hospital and he returned to church just in time 1o deliver his sermon. Hope Kathleen arrived at 4:05 p.m. and weighed 7 lbs. and one-half oz. Wailing anxiously at home to make her acquaintance was her 5 year old sister, Vicki. The baby wa^ named Hope for Mount Hoi>o Methodist church and Kathleen which is Vicki's favorite name Congratulations. Rev. and Mrs. Smith. An Indiana Visit Before her visit to Indiana Mrs. Emma Olson had as Sunday dinner guests Mr. and Mrs. Walter Waller of Milwaukee. Mrs. Olson spent three weeks in Munster with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Ayers. Weekenders Marge and Louie DeFrancisco were happy , to have as recent weekend guests her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Art Schavey, of Chicago. \yhile here they celebrated Marge's birthday which occurred on Nov. 9. 4021 W. Main Two Parties On Oct. 30 Johnny Lakowske became 8 years old, and was honored with a party given by his mom, Betty. Helping celebrate his birthday were Tommy Fry, Billy Martinec, Mickey and Ricky Mikkelsen and his cousin, Danny Bicb^n. The boys played games, won prizes, and enjoyed hot degs, potato chips, strawberry milk and ice cream birthday cake. Johnny received some nice gifts and money. His guests take home gifts were plastic models of a stagecoach and caramel apples. Mary Jane Lakowske celebrated on Thursday. Nov. 9, with a party also. There were games with prizes, hamburgers, potato chips, strawberry mUk and ice cream birthday cake. An LTnfortunate Accident I suppose most of you lead in the Chicago papers of the accident of 4 year old Ronald Cairns, Jr. He fell while playing and a 5 inch toy car ax'e penetrated his brain. This child is Eleanor Fiedler's nephew, son of her brother and his wife. Eleanor reports that Ronnie, Jr. is still very ill. Prayers, letters and cards have been received from all over the viorld. We would like to add our prayers for his recovery. Let's Go Vlsltln* Come on! let's visit with Donna and Ray Jensen at 1706 W. Grandview drive. Ray came to Sunnyside Estates as a young lad with his mother. Lil, in Sept., 1954--one of the real pioneers of our community. He graduated from McHenry high school in June. 1957. On .Sep^/ 7. 1958 he took lovely Donna Barger as his bride and they were blessed with a son, Ray Jr., on June 19, 1959. Ray is an electrician by trade. He is Scoutmaster of Troop 144 and e n j o y s w o r k i n g w i t h " h i s Boys." His hobbies are model airplanes and playing pinochle. Donna enjoys playing pinochle and her "hobbies" are her two Rays, senior and junior. A very nice young couple, the Jensens. Sick List We are t*lad to report thai Chris Fail h«7s returned home from McHenry hospital and i? feeling better. I Little Pammy DeFranciscc I fell while playing and hit her j chin on the cocktail table which necessitated a trip to the doctor and a stitch. She is her usual exuberant self now we are glad to say. Another chin' bumper was Mark Davis. However, his wasn't quite so severe and home doctoring took care of his chin. Laura and Tommy Smolinski are chicken pox victims as is Micke\ Siepman. We are glad to report that Steve Major's brother. Joseph, of Cicero has returned home after a 3 week stay in the hospital. Happy Thanksgiving Happy Thanksgiving, everyone. Reaves for Army The Ktrosj-ner family held a Sunday, Nov. 12, for one of their sons, Norman, who left for the Army on Monday, Nov. 13. He is taking his basic training in Colorado and plans on going to M.P. school. Good luck. New Brownie Troop Monday, Nov. 13, was the day of investiture for the new- Brownie Troop No. 27S. It was held at the Luna residence on Sunset Drive. The girls who were invested are: Janet Harper, Christine Krueger, Susan Landis, Mittie Mae LongfieM, Julia Luna, Jo Ann. Perkins Pam Schmidt and Katy Slusher. At this time the girls were presented with the Brownie world pin, and a Girl Scout membership card. All .of the girls' mothers were present to witness the brief c e r e m o n y. Additional guests were Mrs. Breede, troop organizer: Mrs. Rieter. Janet's grandmother: and Miss Elaine Keller, Christine's aunt. An enjoyable time- was had by all, especially by Katy who. was surprised with a birthday cake at refreshment time.
