$tc age Sixteen THE McHENBY PLAINDEALEH Tuesday. November 21. 1^}1 McHenry High School THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 30, 7:30 p.m Sponsored by K1WANIS CLUB of McHenry EVERYONE WELCOME Tickets may obtained from Kiwanis Members or at High School WARRIORS CRASH INTO ORBIT - - - EVERYTHING "A"-0K by Marie Schaetlgen The dinner this- evening marks the 14th consecutive yefar in which' Kiwanis has paid tribute to the football team of the McHenry Community High School. This year the occasion is an unusually happy one because the Warriors have had an undefeated season. As the new champions of the North Suburban League, they have won the esteem of the Community and the enthusiastic admirations of their contemporaries. The sparkle of glory shines also, upon those fine young ladies, the Gheer • Leaders, whose staunch support has been an inspiration. The coaches are, as always, a indispensible factor in the attainment of victory. Parents, teachers, in fact everyone who touched the lives of these young adults, deserves part of the credit for their achievement. The Kiwanis Club of McHenry wishes to thank everyone whose help has made possible this grand finale to the football season. The cooperation of the entire community is deeply appreciated -- without it the annual banquet would not be oossible. • Eaeh^year-one-player is chosen as "the most valuable" one. The decision is made by the team. This year R was found impossible to select just one individual player. Each member of the team had made a supreme effort to win. It was thought to be unfair to choose only ™ne--outstanding- player. They were all outstanding," so -- young as they are, they made, a very wise deetstan. They^ "^decided the entire team would receive equal Honors. KTwanis resjiefCts their decision-, and" accepts k- graciously. "J'The training these young people have had in their formative years Will determine, largely, the approach they will take to adult life. There will be many times when they will be thrown for a loss just as they think they have reached their goal. Will they pick themselves up and try again? We can only stand by and hope that they will not easily accept defeat. The urgency and solemnity of the problems confronting them cannot be minimized. We pray they will meet these problems with courage and deterrrtinaftibn: We pray that the word "Communism" will not create confusion in their minds nor feelings of submission in their! hearts. We hope they will come to realize that they are an integral part of a great and free nation, that, with the help of God, will remain so. Perhaps it is logical and human to fear that which we do not McHENRY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL SQUAD lilUlli Left to Right -- (Top Row) Coach William Hutchinson, Billy Dfrr Cicco, John Rourke, Ken Weber, Wayne Latimer, Wayne Fuchs, Teddy Freund, Pat Faunt, Chris Bennett, Dave Gende, Bob Wahl, Tom Antonson,, Paul Morenz, Vern Peterson, Coach Paul Mandli. Doubts must arise in the minds of the young adults as it does in the minds of those who have survived many crises. Many questions are unanswered and perhaps unanswerable. Must we go to the Moon? What's wrong with this good Earth that cannot be righted? Must we destroy each other by fear and trepidation if not by Nuclear weapons? Our modern scientists have done incredible things -- some of them seem miraculous. Why can't their knowledge be turned to the task of eliminating from our vocabularly those dreaded words, "incurable disease." Why can't they lead us to a happier and more abundant life? Surely these problems might prove to be less intricate than putting a man on the Moon. Why can't we train our minds to trust in God as our keeper and believe that, perhaps, the world is simply following a pattern designed by Him to lead us to a better way of life? We hope that the road from the football field to the highway of life will lead these young men we are honoring tonight, to a better understanding of themselves and of the World. With understanding will come success and happiness. Photo by George Kotalik Freund, Rick Frosberg, Tom Trendler, Ron Freund, Chuck Miller, Bill Marquart.
