Two Teens Accept Catholic Faith A solemn event occurred on Saturday morning when Sandra and Billy Brennan, the children of Dorie and Bill, were baptized into the Catholic faith at St. Patrick's church. Their mentor was Father Parker who has been instructing the children for many weeks. Sandy and Bill were sponsored by Gladys and Merv Schmitt who felt very proud to be so hon ored. Brother and sister made their first Holy Comrrtunion on Sunday morning, and following the" ceremony, dinner was served at the Schmitts in honor of the occasion. Gladie prepared turkey and all the trimmings and the cuisine w;„o pronounced "deelish"! Joyful "Wet" Reunion! Tears flowed in many direct tions when Private John Padgett embraced his grandmother, May Kennenberg on Friday night. The handsome young lad with proper military bearing came in for a surprise furlough after completing 8 weeks basic training at Fort Knox, Ky. He will be in the area for about 20 days. John is commuting back and forth from his mother's home in Woodstock to the village. During his 8 $6#eks, John made expert rifleman and Is proudly wearing his medals attesting to the fact. No doubt that this young man will be an asset to his country's Army! Upon completion of his time off, the young soldier will report back to Fort Knox for sight mere weeks of training in the clerical field and will then be ready for a permanent assignment. During the reunion, he was properly greeted by aunts Jean MctDonald and Theresa Cunningham, "grand father" Butch Kennenberg, and uncle Hughie. We couldn't be happier about writing this pleasant news! vance--you have always operated so beautifully. Christmas Decor Red, green, blue, and yellow Christmas tree lights are/^oing their part towards dispelling the gloom of the dark, wintry nights. Our villagers have goi.T "all out" this year in the way of outside decorations. The fruits of their labors are visible at the homes of Lil and Mark Ringelstetter, the Harold Vycitals, Diane and Chase Koch, the Bonny Egerstaffers, Louise and Carl Berquist, the Roy Nyes and many, many others. Sunday afternoon and evening the carols were being played via the loudspeaker atop the Bjork residence and this always heralds the news that Christmastime is here. Johnsburg TWIN DAUGHTERS BORN DEC. 13 TO SCHAEFER FAMILY Betty Hetterniann From One Ditch Driver to Another Experieftced in that field is young son, Matthew Johathah, who was giving sage words of advice to Gene Frost Sunday morning as Gene awaited the tow truck to haul him out of the ditch on Spring Road. Seems as though he was coming arouhd the corner late Saturday night and "nosed" his big white; station wagon into the crevice! Our three year old had the ^ame experience last summer when he moved the parking brake and our car rolled down the driveway, across the street, and was hung up on the opposite bank. Scared witless was daughter, Dierdre, who inadvertently was a passenger for the "wild ride". Towing services were required to correct the mess and we have a few dents for memory. Orchid Occasions Eight years old is Peggy O'Halleran today. Dec. 21. . • The Jake Loeschels will be observing their wedding anniversary tomorrow, Dec. 22. . . Nels Brand will be 4 on Dec 2,°- while Johnny Matthesius will be 7 on Christmas Eve. . .Dec. 27 will find Donny Burg, also 7, and Gert Helwig will be one year "older! During this meeting the girls finished up projects that had not been completed at the last meeting. Before the Evening was over they held a talent show. Maria Martin was the cookie hostess. The girls went skating on Dec. 16, and later had their Christmas party at Mrs. Barths home. There will be no skating on Dec. 23, but on Dec. 30, there will be her mom came home Sunday, skating. Reports are still coming in about our young school children playing "chicken" at the various bus stops in the morning. Gates 4, 3, and 2 are especially bad. The boys and girls play at the intersections and also dash into the busy blacktop and "dare" drivers to make them move! Icy and snowy roads are not conducive to a fast stop and we could have a tragedy. Threaten YOUR kids with bodily mayhem if they don't cease and desist! Sewing iJuild Meets The Pink Ladies Sewing Guild met recently at the home of Esther Knapp of Fairview avenue. Their annual Christmas party was held at this time. The ladies enjoyed a pot luck supper followed by a grabbag gift exchange. Games were i deadline for the column once also on the agenda. Agnes Ko- again. "Speedy" has been in the army for over a year and is real happy to be spending a thirty day furlough here. Susan Pitzen and Carol Ann Stilling of St. Coletta's school in Jefferson, Wis., arrived at their .respective homes last Sunday to spend the holidays with their families. Susan participated in a Christmas play at school before coming home. Girl Scout News Troop 378 finished their Christmas project and wrapped it at last week's meeting. They also enjoyed playing games. These girls are planning - a carolling party for this week. Mrs. Robert Thurwell, Rita and Donnie, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Freund, and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Martinec and Bobby. Around the Town Hank and Clara Nell were recently visited by their daughter from New Jersey for a week. Several troop leaders and committee women from this vicinity enjoyed a Christmas luncheon and gift exchange at the McHenry Country club last Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. George Oeffling, Sr., celebrated their Christmas a little earlier than usual this year. Their family was present in their home last. Saturday for the pre-holiday celebration. Joining in on the festivities were the families of Frank, Jipi, Alger and George, Jr., Lawrence Cook, Eddie Huff, Carl Timm. the Bill Schabows and the Tom Fowler families. Florida sunshine is what Ed and Grace Sullivan and daughter. Patti. of Dulch Creek Woodlands, will be enjoying over Christmas and New Year's. The Sullivans- will be leaving this week for their holiday vacation. "Happy Birthday" to Emett Roberts who will observe his natal day later this month. The Harry Freund family spent several days over last, weekend in Coulterville visit+ng her family. Mrs. Helen Hettermann was feted with a family gathering honoring her seventy-fourth birthday. The get-together was held last Sunday at the John Herdrick home in McHenry. - Please say an extra prayer for Mrs. Kennebeck's son. Ray. We pause to wish you peack and joy. May these gifts be with you today and always. AL'S WELDING who has been confined to a Chicago hospital for over two weeks, tie was hUrt while working and has been in a serious condition since.
