We say this because it seems that ho trther time of the year do people show the same good will and charity in appraisal of their fellowmen. Material things seem less important to us this year than ever before. Not that we want Santa Claus to hibernate in the frozen north and forget us. We do believe in Santa Claus and trust God wills that old Santa spread cheer year after year. Sure. We hope that Santa brings us the usual pair of socks. Empty so^k-. WARRIORS LOOK GREAT M WIN OYER PALATINE Battle Down To Last Seconds For 58 To 55 Victory Coach Cliff Fulton trotted out the same faces last Friday night to face the visiting Palatine team, but to close followers of McHS fortunes it was a different team. As the Warriors defeated the previously unbeaten Palatine varsity 58 to 55, they showed ho resemblance to the team that had gone down before Barrington and Crystal Lake. This was one of those close battles all the way and went down to the final seconds before the issue was settled. May carried the scoring load for McHenry in the early stages of the game before Morenz found the range. The V.'arriors held a 2 point edge at half time and 4 points at the three quarter point. Then came a nerve tingling fourth quarter in which a real sood Palatine team threatened to pull away. Action was so fast in the final 10 seconds that fans are still trying to fitrure out how it all happened. Morenz was a ball of fire at this point and his quick hands did much to spoil Palatine's final bid to score. Rourke sank a free throw in the final seconds to make the edse much safer. -- To Vern Petersen goes a world of credit for a rebounding performance that made the difference. It is elementary, my dear Watson, but when you have the ball the other team simply cannot score. Anonymous McHenry Tie Rods The new officers presided over the meeting on Tuesday, December 12, and everything went as planned. As we had planned we entered a car in the Christmas parade and pleased many children with candy. On Sunday, December 17, we had a toboggan party at the Veterans Park in Crystal Lake. It lasted'four and a half hours and everyone present had a good time. The McHenry Tie-Rods wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We hope everyone realizes his great responsibility when he gets behind the wheel and drives safely. Ron Klapperich, Sec. HURRICANES OF MARIAN HIGH TRIM HUNTLEY Host Strong Si. Mel Of Chicago On Friday Night The Marian Hurricanes evened their record at 2-2 Saturday night at the expense of Huntley by the score of 79 - 55. Four boys hit in double figures for the high scoring Hurricanes -- Ed Crowley of Crystal Lake had 18, Vic Freund of Spring Grove had 16, Rex Litchfield of Union had 11, and Rex Hester of McHenry had 10. The Hurricanes got off to a slow start and at the quarter led by a score of 14 to 9. In the second quarter Rex Hester hit all 10 of his points to lead Marian to a 35 to 21 half time lead. In the third Marian continued to sizzle as John Corso of McHenry, and Rex Litchfield each hit four baskets arid Ed Crowley added three baskets to lead Marian to a 62 - 29 advantage. Coach Joe Gubbins cleared the bench in the fourth quarter and Huntley was able to score 26 of its 55 points. The Hurricanes hit 52 per cent of their shots from the floor and in the second half hit a fantastic 19 out of 30 for 63 per cent Coach Joe Gubbins after the same said that he was particularly impressed with the great team effort his boys put forth. This along with the tight defense that the Hurricanes showed in the first 3 quarters were the high points of the night. This Friday night the Marian team will host a strong St. flfrel of Chicago team. This will be St. Mels first appearance ip th;s area. Until this year St. Mels was a member of the powerful Catholic Lssgus of Chicago.
