Final plans for their pancake breakfast to be held , Jdh. 26 were discussed. They also planned a tobogganing party to be held in the near future. Birthday and Investiture Party For The Brownies Jan. 28 the Brownies will be celebrating their birthday with , a big party. Planning Fun Fair The committee members of the Johnsburg P.T.A. are already busy making plans for their annual Fun Fair which will be held this year on April 4. Round of Showers For Rrlde-To-Be Jan. 12 Craig Thoren's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Thoren of Chicago, gave Gloria Waldiri a very beautiful bridal shower, Gloria's mother attended W'th the Thorens. Gloria and Craig received so many lovely gifts for their home. Sunday, Jan. 18, Marge Waldin's sister, Eleanor Zernle of Morton Grove, gave a shower for Gloria with all the relatives and friends on hand. The folks from the Highlands who attended were: Marge's sister, Harriet Wilson, and her daughters, Barbara and Janet, Ellie Wroblewski, Irene Kolan and Virginia Thoren and her daughter, Janet. The lucky young couple are anxiously awaiting Feb. 1, their wedding day. Boy Scoiits A Beehive of Activity The committee members of the Boy Scouts and the Scouts themselves are very busy these days in the final preparations for their Feb. 9 pancake breakfast. They have some very eye catching posters all around. They are made in the carnival theme and are very colorful. St. John's Home and School Association After the regular monthly business meeting of the St. John's Home and School Association, a "White Elephant Sale" will be held Jan. 27. Dogs Out Of Control In The Highlands Seems the same people every year at this time and most of them all year round disregard the law and allow their dogs to run. It seems every section is being over run with them. They' are -running in packs, pairs and singly. It Would seem after all the write-ups in the News of Yopr Friends and Neighbors I want to apoligize to Marge Mullally for misspelling her name--in--Isst 's--articic about her farewell luncheon party given by Pat Jackson. I will try to be more careful, in the future. The Pink Lady Sewing Guild Of the Women's Auxiliary to the McHenry hospital met at the home of Lorraine Lindemann, with Marge Moreth as co-hostess, Jan. 9. There were eleven women present, including Gert Snell from the Highlands. Jan. 10, the Pinochle Club met at the home of Dorothy Shutter in Ingleside. The gals on hand to enjoy the evening of fun were: Marilyn VanZevern, Polly Eilers, Audrey Misavice, Betty Warczak and Carla Bales. Along vyith the cards the gals enjoyed ^delicious snacks. John and Margaret Kapolnoky from West Chicago stopped in to visit with Joe and Liesel Hanisch last Saturday. They had spent the day in Wilmot, Wis., skiing. They enjoyed a late supper with the Hanisches. Jan. 11, Marilyn VanZevern, her parents, Ray tod LaVerne Madock, and Her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Madock of Pistqua Heights, attended the Kick-Off dinner for Cerebral Palsy drive. Jan. 18 Ed and Irene Kolan spent the weekend in Chicago where they attended the wedding of Irene's long, time friend. Sunday they drove to Morton Grove where Irene attended a shower for her Godchild, Gloria Waldin. It was a fun tilted weekend for them. Jan. 13, Dorothy Jenkins, Dorothy Orlowski, Joyce Heir and Mary Seldon attended the Unit^OS auxiliary meeting. James O'Neill joined the Holy Name Society of St. John's and was on hand for the reception of new members Jan. 12. Since the primary elections will be coming up very shortly it is advisable for all the folks in the Highlands who have not as yet registered to vote, and do not know where to register, that we have a registrar for your convenience right here in the Highlands. You may register at the home of Marilyn VanZevern at 5615 North Meadow Hill Lane any weekday after 3:30 p.m. and on the weekends. The deadline for registering is in March. The P i s t a k e e Highlands Women's Club is planning an open meeting for March. 'You are asked to bring your friends and reighbors. The main attraction for the meeting will be a beauty counselor who will discuss hair and fkin care .which will be very interesting. The Mount Hope Methodist, Women's Society of Christian Service held their monthly meeting at the church hall Jan. 14. Many members were on hand lor the meeting. Refreshments were served. Mary O'Neill's nephew. Greg, was taken to the hospitar Jan 14 for spinal surgery. He is from Detroit, Mich., and has been staying with Jim and Mary this year and is attending McHenry high school. How about some cards for a brave little girl who is in the third grade and has to be in bed for two months. This can be a long time for some one that age and very lonely. This dinner is a' national event and every pack in the United States holds a Blue and Gold dinner in February. Our pack is listied on the honor roll in Rockford for completing our membership pledge. At the Jan. 15 Ragk-iwiwtlp^- each Den Mother was presented with an American Flag and stand by Vi Schuble, Americanism Chairman for the V.F.W. auxiliary to Post 4600. Teena O'Malley, who was chairman of the refreshment committee for the Bussed Virgin Sodality of St. John's, Jean Tomsa and Kay Sielisch attended the Jan. 14 monthly meeting. Father Dording presided over the meeting. Plans were discussed for a luncheon and card party to be held April 8. My hubby Wally is battling a terrific cold and flu. He really spent a few miserable days and I am hoping it will by-pass me this round. Arthur and Clara Ernst have been spending a couple of days in the city visiting with their children. They make at least j one trip every week. Congratulations to Ray and! Dolly Novotny who will bej celebrating their fifteenth wedding anniversary, Jan. 30. They hope to have a real nice celebration for the big day. Last weekend Herb and Lorraine Lindemann spent three days with their daughter, Pat, and her husband, Chuck, in Chicago. The awards presented to the boys were: Bear Badge awarded to Tim Phillips, a Bear Badge and a Silver Arrow went to Don Gerstein, A Gold and Silver Arrow went to Scott Wiggerman, Wolf Badges went to Gregg Schmitt, Mark Pfingsten. Denner Bars went to, Ray Thelen and Robert Decker. Assistant Denner Bars went to Robert Kawahara and N&teven Waugh. The following topis received Silver Arrows: Steven Waugh, Dale Hillstrom, Jim Zenner, Joe Zenner and Mark VanZevern received two Silver Arrows. Dennise Gunderson was inducted in to the Pack and received his Bob Cat pin. We need another Den Mother, since we have several beys waiting to be inducted in to the Pack. Girl Scout Troop 44 Receives Flags The Girl Scout Troop 44 are very grateful to the V.F.W. Post 4600 and to Vi Schuble for the presentation of their beautiful flags. The boys have been working like little beavers learning first aid and how to be prepared for any emergency that might arise.
