Lakeland Park BOYS BASEBAU^ CLUB SPONSORS SKATING PARTY Barbara Meurer -- 885-4306 Kiy Droml Our Lakeland Park Boys baseball club is sponsoring a Valentine Roller-Ska ting party at the McHenry rink tonight, Thursday, Feb. 13. This affair is for all ages. If you don't feel up to skating, we know you would have a great evening out by just watching the ones who are skating. The party will start at 7:30 and end at 10:30 so everyone can still get plenty of liniment applied to those muscles they didn't know existed until they had finished skating. You'll not only have a wonderful evening out but you will be helping to raise funds for the necessary equipment needed to operate the league this year. Tickets are available from all managers, coaches and will be sold at the door. People from all subdivisions are invited to attend. For any further information contact Bob Matthews at 385-6042. Troop 459 Our Boy Scout Indian Dance Team performed at the Cary- Grove high school last Sunday. One of Cary's two Cub Scout Packs had extended the invitation to our Troop. Dinner was served to the Scouts and their leaders. From the reports on the meal all our Scouts and leaders should have gained a pound or two. While the boys and leaders were enjoying their meal a very wicked game of "Catch" was played by the adults who had driven and were to apply make-up to the boys. Heard that Frank Bartos will vouch for the terrific throwing arm of Nedra Eckhart. The Cary Pack had award presentations following the dinner and during this time the boys were made-up and dressed in their Indian regalia. As the awards were finished our Troops Scoutmaster was introduced. He in turn introduced all the dancers and drummers by their names and also by their chosen Indian names. As the drummers took their beat the dance group toolc the floor and held the audience spellbound for a half hour program. The response in applause was very gratifying. It was the team's first dancing on a huge gym floor and the boys really took advantage of the room. After the team had finished, the leaders were so very pleased by the people who approached them to express how wonderful they thought the team was. One of the persons expressing their feelings told the leaders that she was part Indian and thought the Scouts, had done a wonderful job and was also surprised at the authenticity to the dances and outfits. Blackhawk area was represented by many of the officials and they also expressed how very much the team has improved since they last saw it in spring. All in all Lakeland Park residents can once again give their Boy Scouts a big pat on the back for representing our community so very well. A big pat on the back also goes to Scoutmaster Ed Druml, Ass't. Scoutmaster; Irv Becker, Committee Chairman; Jim Daurio, Committeuien; Les Eckhart, Frank Bartos and Morrie Ketchum for all their hard work with the team., AJso to committeemen Ray Rode and Ralph Ossler for helping to chive. The tough job will be for the judges to select the loveliest from a bevy of beauteous and curvaceous young "chicks." The plan was proposed at the last meeting of the executive board of the Cullom-Knoll, Tuesday, Feb. 4. It received favorable impression and the plan will be put in action. Final judging will be held on May 30 with a barbecue type "shin-dig" for the corned home from Children's Memorial hospital aijd that things turned out real well for him. Young Paul was very pleased by a visit from the Cub baseball star, Ron Santo. Lyda and Bill Radisch were surprised by their daughter, Shirley Lexow, and her neighbor from Carpentersville. Her surprise visits happen frequently but this one was really a surprise as they arrived in time for breakfast. We heard that after last Saturday, Bill Radisch is called "The Candy Kid." The Earl Dowell family had a delicious tuikey at Max Koch's home on Sunday. We were told that Shirl is & wonderful cook. After bowling last Saturday the Georges, Matthews, Johnsons and Meurers stopped over at the Kochs for a snack and birthday celebration for Max. On Sunday the Meurers were surprised by a visit from Barb's folks, Mr. and Mrs. Miller, from Lombard. After dinner the four adults played pinochle, with the ladies taking two games out of three. We have received the following names that will appear on the ballot at the coming election. Richard Burman will be running for Democratic precinct committeeman from District 13. Jerry Rogers will be running for alternate delegate on the Democratic ticket. Sure hope that Marine son of ours, David, won his very tough Karate match today. He was to have had a very rough Okinawan as his opposition for today. We know Dave trained extra hard for this match and we know he did his best. munity. Allen McKim will be in charge of the party. Miss McCullom Lake, senior variety, will be entered in the County contest wearing the colors for the village. This does not eliminate our ahnual selection of Miss McCullom Lake from the 4 to 7 year old youngsters! That has become an institution, practically unique in the area. The little queen contest will be held as usual, in conjunction with our summer festival. It is hoped that we can obtain the services of a qualified pejrson to instruct the young wdmen in the fine arts of charm, poise, how to apply cosmetics properly and something of the latest in coiffures. This is only an advance bulletin and other details will be published as they become available. fellows, many of whom are still fighting their battle! Please call Bobbie at 385- 3615 and offer your donations. It is the best way in the world to dispense with your used reading material. It's brand new to them! Gals Will Meet Tonight Members of the Ladies of tfiie Lake will meet at 8 p.m. tpjnight in the beachhouse. Business will be conducted before the social portion of the evening. It will be most pleasurable to congregate in the newly decorated quarters. Now, we need those new curtains! • All women of the community are most cordially invited to attend. Blue Booties For Branhams! Happy days ahead for two little sisters who are mighty pleased with their brand new brother. Theresa Ann, 3, and Linda, 21 months old, are counting the months until the little fella becomes a real playmate. Franklin Delano Branham, Jr., arrived in excellent condition at 4 McHenry hospital where his' momma, Joanne, was conveniently waiting for him. Delivery date was Friday, Jan. 31, at 7:11 p.m. Weight of the "heavenly" bundle amounted to 7 lbs., 8Y2 oz., and was 22 inches in length. We couldn't be happier for Joanne and daddy Frank who now has a namesake. Guess who daddy was named for! Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. John O'Halleran. Best wishes to all involved in this most blessed event. Aid For Ailing Vets Bobbie Carroll, rehabilitation chairman for the American Legion auxiliary, will be making her regular trek to Downey hospital, Great Lakes, to visit veterans who are still confined. She will visit them on the 20th of this month, and a large donation of used books, mag- •eines, end. playing cardfi^ will mean a great deal to these More Notes Froity The Cullbm-KnolB , A most appreciative letter was received from Clifford D. Redding, executive director of the Woodstock Children's Home, for the bounteous gift of stuffed stockings the kiddies received during the holidays. A little cheer goes a long way. Rich Johnson is swinging into high gear with his membership* drive for the Cullom- Knoll organization. You will be contacted soon, but in the meantime, you can send your dues to Mrs. Earl Murray, Maple Hill Drive. The teens are in full swing with their membership drive and we should have a bulletin from them for the next issue of the column. All young people from 13 to 19 have been contacted and invited to attend the meeting held last Tuesday p.m. Allen McKim and Stew Norbert Lorch have industriously been working on the lake to form a really good ice skating rink. Bowling, Beer and Beef! Makes a good combination, don't you think? So did twenty fellows and their wives last Saturday night when McDon aid's bowling team took on two teams from the McCullom Lake Men's Club. The first mentioned group was victorious by some 349 pins and that "ain't bad!" Quite a decisive victory. Mac's top bowlers were Dick Klein hausen -- 579, Fred Matthes ius --- 562, and Bill Padgett with a 538 series. The Men's Club's best were Bob Beyer 531, Jack Worm -- 509, and Bill Worm with 493. Merv Schmitt proved to be "low man on the totem pole' for McDonald's and this somewhat doubtful honor went to Frank Woolwing for the Men's Club. Better luck next time fellas. Other teammates included Lee Mai, Ed (Daddy) Caron, Bill Scheid, Bill Brennan, Stewart Norbert Lorch, and Ken Ingersol, foir Mac's. The Men's Club was sustained with Dave Hansen/ Ken Loesch, Frank Qenoe, Herb Howe, George Henolz, and Len Jensen, Jr. Following ' the competition, the guys and their gals met for refreshments -- liquid and solid. The menu included such goodies as hot beef sandwiches, spaghetti casserole, baked beans, molded salads, and other trimmings. Plenty of "suds" for all contributed to a mighty fine party. Recovering Following Surgery Pauline Sheriff was parted from the source of her misery at McHenry hospital last Thursday, and according to hubby Shorty, she is coming along slowly, but steadily in her battle to regain good health. Much appreciated are those little pasteboard "gems" which arrive via Uncle Sam's postal system. Keep them coming, and Pauline will snap back in no time! Her room number is 2. Goo-o-ood Group Gathers Papa and Sally Olsen spread the "welcome mat" for members of Sally's family last Sunday, and the festive board was really groaning. Present for the roast lamb dinner included Mr.* and Mrs. Charles Temple and daughters -- Peggy 'n' Judy; Mr. and Mrs. Mel' Tishy with Jimmy and Bobby; and the newly wedded Mir, Mrs. DeWajjme (Bud) C*v«nder. She Is the former Siu^^^ Temple and looked every inch' the radiant bride. Bridegroom Bud was kept busy trying to beat the other fellows at "hearts," , •' ^v-V5* * Only two of our residents; are known to be enjoying that natal "daze" this week.
