The meeting was delayed for a week until a suitable place could be fojind to hold the meeting. New officers elected were Frank Higgins, president, James Chadburn, vice-president, Tom Mathews, secretary, Dr. S. L. Ruggero, treasurer. Three persons were elected to fill three vacancies on the Board of Directors - Robert Asmus, Lois Awe and Mary Lou Hartog. A motion was made and carried that there would only be four meetings a year instead of monthly meetings. Also, the >new president plans to appoint permanent committees to take charge of the various projects of the Chamber such as the decorating Contest, and other activities which the Chamber conducts. Our speaker was past president George Pederson, who spoke on Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. This school is build on 160 acres just outside of Carbondale. This is the first State school to go on the four quarter system (utilizing the facilities for most of the year). A business meeting was held after the program. Past president's night was discussed further. We have had sixteen presidents of the club. April 11 was suggested for this night. Feb. 17 will be the Brotherhood Program. Johnsbsrg FORESTERS HOLD ANNUAL BOWLING , DINNER SATURDAY Betty Hettermann The annual men Foster bowling party was brought to a close last Saturday evening in the community clufr hall. Over two hundred members and their guests gathered in the hall to enjoy the evenings festivities All in attendance were in agreement that the roast beef dinner served was the most delicious ever. As usual the "good cooks of Johnsburg" came through with flying colors. Members of the following courts were given tokensr^f award for their superior bowling. Toppling pins to the score of 3162 was the team captained by Leon Schmitt. His helpers were: Ed Condon, Ron Bergs ma, Bob Popelka, and John Popelka. Florida Fun Clarence and Lucille Smith recently returned from a four weeks vacation in Florida. While there they visited relatives and friends in West Palm Beach, Del Ray Beach, Pompano Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, W. Hollywood, Venice and St. Petersburg. Also Key West, Cypress Gardens, Busch Gardens, Weekie Wachee and many other points of interest. Clarence did some fishing in the Gulf and caught a few. They drove 4,600 miles without any trouble until about 30 miles from Chicago on the return trip -- you guessed it -- a flat tire! Accepting the Michels hospitality for the night were Diane Hiller, Susie Oeffling, Susie Conway, Carol Dehn, Betty Himplemann, Betty Sompel, Nancy Schaefer Coleen Joyce, Mary Jo Haag, Annette Kurowski, Diane Jenkins, Judy Stroigl and Mary Ellen Freund. Refreshments were served and Barbara was the recipient of many nice gifts. I would like to correct the dates that appeared in last week's column in regards to Kathy Hettermann and Diane Stilling's birthdays. Kathy was 18 on Feb. 6 and Diane will be 18 on the 21st. The Oeffling home on Dolores Drive is just loaded with reasons for celebrations in this month of February. Little Pamela was one on Feb. 10, David turned 10 on Feb. 13, Sarah has her natal day on Feb. 22 while on Feb. 25 along comes George's birthday. Last Saturday a party combining Pamela and David's birthday was held. Mr. and Mrs. George Oeffling, Sr., and the Jim Oeffling family were in attendance.. Sport Notes St. John's girls volleyball team beat St. Mary's team three times in the local gym last Friday evening. Our town basketball continued to roll along in their winning streak. Last Thursday they beat Cary in a close game of j 75 to 74. On Sunday they trimmed the Woodstock Majors by a score of 144 to 63. Sunday. Feb. 16, our team will travel to Marengo, game time is 2:30. Lenten Devotions There will be devotions on Wednesdays and Friday evenings at 7:30 p.m. in St. John's Church all during Lent. Parishioners will be most interested to know Father Everett Hiller will be the guest speaker each Wednesday evening.
