We refer to "Pooch," who for the past eight years was the constant companion of "Peggy" Feltz, employed by the city in keeping McHenry's streets clean. The dog, part Airdale and part Collie, was better known to local citizens as "Sluefoot" and really belonged to the Jacob Justen family. He was about 9 years old, but when about 1, "Slue" was adopted by Peggy, or vice versa, and given the name of "Pooch." "Pooch," it is believed, was phot last Thursday night. Peggy informs the Plaindealer that his pal will be buried on his lot west of the railroad on Rt. 20, between a "tree of heaven" and a favorite rose bush. William R. Skidmore, owner of the All American best percheron stallion, will be one of two Illinois livestock breeders to have entries in a national Percheron contest. After receiving a surprise petition signed by all of the other members of the county board of supervisors during> noon recess Tuesday, Stephen A. Freund announced Tuesday evening thai he had re-considered his intention to retire and would again become a candidate. The local public trade school was closed Monday, and Tuesday because of the illness of several teachers with influenza. Those absent were Misses Mary Althoff and Mary Kinney, Mrs. Jennie Mafe Richardson and M. L. Schoenholtz. Miss Marie Nett is opening a beauty shop at Johnsburg. Miss Marion Weingart, who is to be married to Walter Anderson Feb. 18, was guest of honor at a miscellaneous showr er given by Mrs. Ralph Justen and Miss Evelyn Justen. Twenty-Five Years Ago Taken From The Files Of February 21, 1924 The operetta, "The Gypsy Rover," by MCHS pupils, under the direction of Miss Blanche D. Pryor, will be presented at the Empire theatre next Tuesday evening. Fred Justen, the popular proprietor of the hotel in this city bearing his name, is confined to bed with a frai&ture of the right leg. He slipped and fell on his way back to the Oak Park hotel Sunday after ice fishing on Pistakee Lake. A family of full blooded Cherokee Indians stopped in McHenry last Friday. The family, including Red Cloud, his wife and six children succeeded in selling large numbers of artificial flowers made from goose feathers dyed in natural colors. Kent and Green, local real estate men, report that they have been successful in the sale of all but one of the lots subdivided by M. A. Conway east of the river late last summer. The newest bobbed hair hats of the popular changeable taffeta were on display at the Adams store, Johnsburg. V.F.W. Auxiliary News By Renee Jende The Women's Auxiliary to Fox River Post 4600 held their regular meeting on Monday, Feb. 10, at 8 p.m. at the clubhouse. The department convention will be in June in Springfield. The 5th District V.F.W. District Commander and President's Ball will be held in St. Charles on Feb. 29. Attending the festivities will be Daisy and John Smith. The National Home chairman reported on birthday cards sent to Illinois children a1, the National Home in Eaton Rapids, Mich. Hospital Chairman Kathy Fuhler informed us that the next scheduled hospital visit to Downey is Feb. 19. Essay Chairman Flo Svoboda reported on the essay contest. We have been receiving essays and they will «be read and judged. A committee will be formed to do this. Welcome home to Daisy Smith, who returned from a trip to Hawaii. She attended an auxiliary meeting while there an,il said she enjoyed it very much. Loyalty Day is May 1.. Viola Schubel is chairman and is planning a program for this day. Jean Wiles was named queen HOSPITAL BOARD NAMES OFFICERS. APPOINTS STAFF At the first regular meeting of the board of directors for McHenry hospital, held after the annual meeting of the McHenry Hospital association, the board re-elected a slate of officers as follows: George P. Freund, McHenry, president; Dr. George Alvary, M.D., McHenry, vice-president; Joseph A. Conerty--Jr., Woodstock, secretary; and O'Dean Cross, Crystal Lake, treasurer. The other directors are Lee Gladstone, M.D., Sylvester Tonyan and Harry E. Eckland of McHenry. The board also re-appointed Anthony Corcoran as administrator for his third year of service with the hospital. The Board of directors approved election of officers for the hospital medical staff as follows: Dr. Bennettt I. Berman, M.D., chief of staff; Dr. Edward F. Wilt, Jr.; M.D. vicechief of staff; and Dr. Benjamin J. Massouda, M.D., secretary- treasurer. Other appointments to the medical staff for the calendar year are as follows: Active staff, Doctors, G. ROTARY NEWS Guest Speaker Bill Bolger a member of our City Council and* also president of the McHenry Library board, was our guest speaker at last week's meeting. Bill brought us up to date on the plans to enlarge our library and some of the problems "facing the very efficient library board. He was ably assisted by Fred Meyer, Superintendent of Public Works. Charts were used to stress some of the points made during Mr. Bolger's talk, which was very informative. The question and answer period following showed that the members present were very much interested in the expansion program and held the members of the McHenry Library board in high esteem. This Thursday evening we will have a Washington's Day party for the members and their Rotary Anns, to be held at the McHenry Country club. This party will take the place of our regular meeting. Norb Mauch and Jack Phelen, With the assistance of their Rotary Anns, are the committee in charge, which assures a grand time for everyone present. Our hard working president and secretary, Herb Reihansperger and Jack Kelsey, are enjoying a well deserved vacation, the Reihanspergers on a cruise and the Kelseys in sunny Florida. The John Loozes expect to join the foursome this week. Medical Society To Hear Insurance Plans The McHenry County Medical society will meet at Mar-' tinetli's in Crystal Lake on Feb. 20 for a dinner meeting at 7 p.m. Dick Sousa, branch manager of Lake and McHenry county area of Blue Cross and Blue Shield Insurance plan, will present a discussion of various types of group' plans which are available. New officers elected for the year 1964 are Dr. H. A. Stahlccker of Woodstock, president; Dr. R. S. Loewenherz of Crystal Lake, vice-president and Dr. J. Among them was Larry Lund of the McHenry Plaindealer, who was accompanied to detroit of Edward Buss, local Ford dealer. The dealers joined Ford division of Ford Motor company in hosting the newsmen during a day-long tour of the facilities where Ford cars are developed and tested well in advance of their appearance in dealer showrooms. The group visited the steel mill and the stamping plant in the world-famous Rouge Manufacturing plant, and the Ford Research and Engineering center and Dearborn proving ground. At a luncheon meeting, Lee A. Iacocca, Ford vice-president and Ford division general manag »M\ toid the newsmen they were invited to spend a day in Dearborn because "we thought you might like to have an opportunity to see some of the operations behind the product which is manufactured in your city." Ford Division conficmed that day that it will introduce a new line of cars this spring. Iacocca, said at a news conference 4n Dearborn, Mich., that thie new line of cars will be balled the Mustang and will be similar in some ways to sportsidea cars introduced by Ford Motor company for public showing in the past year. Ford division currently markets the Falcon, Fairlane, Ford and Thunderbird. \ No further details on the new car line will toe revealed until the tirtie of its public introduction in April, Mr. Iacocca added. The new line will be built at Ford Motor company'^ Dearborn, Mich., assembly plant located In the Rouge manufacturing area., Assembly work at the Dearborn plant was halted Friday, Feb. 7, and will be resumed in early March. Some of the plant's 4,000 employes will continue working during the change-over period. Justen, 1405 Riverside drive, McHenry, has recently been employed by thfe United States Air Force Aeronautical Chart and Information center. Hs is enrolled in the Cartographer training program being conducted at ACIC's training school in St. Louis, Mo. This six-month Civil Service commission approved course provides a broad background in chart compilation and related fields. Subjects covered in the curriculum include geodesy (exact, measurement of the earth), astronomy, physical geography, and photogrammetry (makng charts from photographs). When Jim completes the course, he will be assigned to the production arid distribution plant of ACIC located in St. Louis, Mo., at the historic site of the St. Louis arsenal. • Its mission is basically the production, of aeronautical charts, graphic air target .1 materials, flight information publications, maps terrain mod* els evaluate! intelligence on air facilities and related cartographic devices for the Un^ed States Air Force and other Department of Defense agencies.
