Jt had been inactive for quite some time and Reverend Doenecke was most anxious to have {he group start again. April 11 the first evening gathering was Jleld. The committer for the evening was Dick and Haze Morley and Phil and Glenda Wieck. The two couples had as their entertainment, "Crazy Night Bunco". Cake and coffee was served. The following members of the church attended the training session at the McHenry Methodist church, Sally Jo Von Bruenchenheim, Reverend Doenecke, Shirley Dyson, Delores Oakley and Catherine Rohrbeck. This session was for help with the teaching in the upcoming Vacation Bible school. April 20 the Board of Stewardship and Finance will be held at the church at 8 p.m. April 27 the board of education will hold its meeting at 7 p.m. It is hoped that as many members of the church as possible will attend this meeting. The Vacation Bible School will be planned. Following at 8 p.m. will be the official board meeting. Senior Citizen Hospitalized After Crash Henry Pauls, 67, of 406 Broadway, is reported in good condition in St. Therese hospital after a collision Monday afternoon, April 6, on Route 12, near Lake Vista Terrace in Fox Lake. Rita M. Drdla, 23, of I n g 1 e s i d e was reportedly charged by Sheriff's deputies with having an expired driver's license, and following too close. Mr. Pauls had stopped for a school bus, and was struck in the rear by the Drdla vehicle. New Stop Sign on Acorn After many years of near accidents on the corner of Acorn and Broadway, and due to the efforts of Herb and Lorraine Lindemann ihey have succeeded in securing a stop sign for that street and with the legal authority Herb installed the sign April 6. So please watch the stop sign. You must come to a complete stop at Broadway when you're coming off Acorn Lane. Herb also installed two drive slow signs with the necessary authority. One he installed on Broadway and Agatha and the other on Broadway near Meadow Hill Lane. There are always so many children playing on the road from Agatha to Meadow Hill Lane, it is very frightening. It is a very dangerous place for these little tykes to be playing and equally as dangerous to the drivers. Dates To Remembers This Saturday, April 18, is the St. John's School and Home Association Spring Fling Dance, April 25, the American Legion, Lake Regions Post 703, Spring dance. Tickets may be purchased at the door for both dances. April 30 the Pistakee Highlands Women's club annual banquet and election of officers at 6:30 p.m. at the Waltonian hotel in Fox Lake. Last week the, name of Rosemary Lutz was omitted from the slate of candidates. Rosemary will be running for secre- News Of Your Friends And Neighbors The Lewandowski family is proudly displaying the very big and beautiful trophy Tommy won as the outstanding player on the St. John's basketball team. Tommy's pai'ents, Norbie and Beverley, are so thrilled and proud of Tommy, as are all of his brothers and sister. John Heineman enterted St. Therese hospital April 5 and underwent surgery, April 6. Hope by now your home and feeling fine John. All the neighbors in the vicinity of the James Rodarmel home are very happy that some one has bought the place and will tear it down and rebuild. The house has been standing after the terrible fire that claimed/<t he life of Dorothy Rodarrr/el. It was a constant reminder and it left a chill to everyone that had to pass by, and it was unsafe and everyone was afraid of the children wandering in there to play. Tuesday, April 7, I baked a birthday cake for Leo Orlowski and had lunch with him and Lil. It was a very, nice day for Leo and he was happy to have his two favorite people with him, so sayeth, Leo. Grandpa George VanZevern brightened the Highlands April 5, when he paid a visit to his son, Bob, and family. April 6, rabies control officer, Deputy sheriff Ed. Jelinek came to pick up the dog that had been abandoned in the Highlands. A neighbor on Acorn Lane who loves dogs took pity on the poor pooch and fed him. We hope to hear soon that Ed Thoren's dad is home from the hospital feeling fine, Ed's dad underwent surgery in a Chicago hospital April. 3, and has been prelty sick: . Once again vandalism is going on in the Highlands and in the little chapel on Ringwood and Wilmot Road. Some one has been busy at night with a spray can of paint and have printed the name W. R. Wolbs in huge letters on the model house and the little Chapel. April 8, Teena O'Malley, Janice Janquart, Anna Cohrs and Blanche Haefliger attended the Women's Federation of Women's clubs annual McHenry county Federation meeting in McHenry. April 8, Lorraine Hurckes, Harriet Wilson, Vi Johnson, Mary Seldon and Bonnie Jensen bowled in the tournament in Wauconda. April 5, Bob and Lorraine Hurckes attended the International Dog Show in Chicago, and were greatly impressed with all the beautiful dogs who displayed t heir showmanship. April 7, Jim and Carla Bales and their sons, Reed and Kevin, and Reed's boy friend, Danny Jensen of Johnsburg, and Bob and Lorraine Hurckes and their sons, Bob, Tom, Jim and Steve, went to Mundelein to Watch the Harlem Globetrotters in action. We are sorry to hear Bill Moreth entered Downey Medical hospital April 7, where he is undergoing x-rays and will have surgery. April 12, Steve and Ruth Petrov and family spent the day in Chicago helping Ruth's mother, Gertrude Witte, celebrate a big day in her life. Gertrude's Confirmation class celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their Confirmation day with a big dinner after services in St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Many of the class of 1914 were on hand for the reunion and celebration. Last week I was very sad to receive word that an old friend in Cadillac, Mich., Mary Codden, had passed away and was buried April 4. I shall miss Mary when I go home for a visit. After the birthday luncheon the boys played games and Jerry received many lovely gifts and cards.
