A birthday luncheon was held Saturday, with Carolyn R. Wones of Zeta chapter as the speaker. Her subject was "The Finest Hour." Discussion groups met in the afternoon at 3 p.m. The annual dinner honoring presidents was 7 p.m. in the Continental room, with Mrs. Irene Herrmann, state president, presiding. The address of the evening was "Professional Courage -- Stabilizer for Cultural Change" by Madge Rudd, international executive secretary. Those in attendance from McHenry were Carolyn Bauer, Lillian Bolger, Marion Brolin, Helen Curran, Nellie Doherty, Eleanor Foley, Dorothy Gibbs and Genevieve Knox. Jeffrey Lawrence Baptized Sunday At services held Sunday, April 12, at St. Mary's Catholic church the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. John Lawrence was baptized Jeffrey Robert by Rev. Fr. Eugene Baumhofer. Sponsors were an uncle, Daniel Thurlwell, and an aunt, Mrs. Kenneth Lawrence. Dinner was served to a group of relatives following the ceremony at the Lawrence home. NEW OFFICERS ELECTED BY GARDEN CLUB Mrs. John Welnert assumed duties as president of the Richmond Garden club at the April meeting held at the home of Mrs. Arnold N. May, Other newly elected officers who will serve during the coming year are Mrs. Harry Anderson, vicepresident Mrs. Duane Walters, secretary and Mrs. Harold Michaelis, treasurer. A rising vote of thanks was given Mrs. Edward Swartzloff, out-going president, for her service to the club during the past year. The Richmond club had a busy and successful year, under her leadership, as was shown by the annual report, which was read into the minutes. During this time nine new members were added to the roster. The club undertook several civic projects, the largest of which was the landscaping of the Richmond grade school. The bridge and Memorial hall were planted with multicolored petunias for the summer; greens and poinsettias at Christmas, and greens during the winter months. The club sponsored a Christ- ,mas home decorating contest and was most pleased with the 'response by Richmond residents. Many homes were beautifully decorated and first, second and third prizes were awarded. Zion Lutheran church in McHenry was the setting for a pretty wedding on April 4 which united in marriage Miss Adrienne Elaine Ozog, daughter of Shirley Rowe Ozog of 1908 N. Meadow I^ane and Edward G. Ozog of 1513 N. River Road, McHenry, and Mr. Richard Myron Buiman, son of the Myron Burmans of Crystal Lake. Attending her were Mrs. Sharon Melahn of Crystal Lake as matron of honor, MariAnn Borchert of McHenry and Susan Limbaugh of Crystal Lake as bridesmaids. Bruce Mehlan of Crystal Lake served as best man and Ralph Varese of Crystal Lake and Edward Scott Ozog of McHenry were groomsmen. The newlyweds are making their home on Terra Cotta road, Crystal Lake. The former Miss Ozog graduated in 1963 from McHenry high school and has been employed in Barrington. The groom received his education in Crystal Lake and is employed in that city. TEA FOR GUILD A tea was given recently in honor of the Junior Altar guild of Holy Family Episcopal church, Lake Villa, by St. Mary Magdellan Altar guild of St. Paul's church, McHenry. Guests at the tea were Fr. and Mrs. Fish, girls the four altar guilds and their adult representatives. Fr. Northway conducted a short service, after which the guests toured the church. The serving of tea followed. Wed Fifty Y^ars Ef I- - ^ «-Hl#filf® i. > ^ J r ME DAVE REIDS Romance began in church for Margaret Baird and Dave Reid in a south Chicago church, and culminated in a marriage which has survived fifty years, to be celebrated April 20. An "open house" for the couple who reside1 at 4902 W. Fountain Lane, McCullom Lake, will mark the festivities Sunday, April 19 at McDonald's in the village. The celebration will4 be hosted by the couple's two sons arid wives, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Reid of McCullom Lake and Mr. and Mrs. George Reid of Mundelein from 3 until 7 p.m. A large attendance is expected to pay homage to McCullom Lake's first permanent family. Margaret Baird, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Baird, met Dave Reid at services at the Brethern church, Chicago. They courted for about one year, with a great deal of assistance from Margaret's mother. They married in the home of the Rev. Anderson, their mutual clergyman, on April 20, 1914, and settled in Chicago. They became the parents of David, who died at 6%, George and Bill of McCullom Lake. The two surviving sons are married and have children. As a young man with responsibilities, Dave was employed as a police operator for Lincoln Park, then worked for Metropolitan Insurance Co. until he began his own enterprise as an electrical contractor. He received his education in the electrical field at the Illinois Institute of Technology and Armour Institute. Perhaps the very first family to choose McCullom Lake as their home, the family settled here in 1929. During their many years of residence, they have observed the summer resort area develop into a village which now encompasses nearly 400 permanent families. During their active years, both Mr. and Mrs. Dave Reid were members of the various improvement organizations and have supported measures which would insure growth of. their community. Mrs. Reid was employed by Madeline and Sam Nathanson and retired in 1952. Some years ago, she underwent surgery for a serious malady but has made a complete recovery and still has the diminuitive figure she enjoyed on her wedding dav. In addition to their two sons and wives with whom they enjoy a very close relationship, the couple is inordinately proud of their five grandchildren -- teen-age Joanne and Michael Reid of McCullom Lake and Ann Laraine, Lynn Margaret, and Joan Reid of Mundelein. FATHERS' CLUB DRIVE The Marian Fathers club meeting will be held Tuesday evening, April 28, at 8 p.m. at Marian Central Catholic high school. A membership drive is the most important project at the present time, with Henry Leisten of McHenry heading the campaign. LECTURE LUNCHEON CLUB The Lecture Luncheon club will meet at noon on Wednesday, April 29, at Shady Lane, Marengo, when Ann Varese will present the Broadway musical, "Happy Hunting", accompanied by Verna Schlofner.
