The crackdown is expected to inflict hardship on some hospitals and b^r a considerable number of unlicensed medical graduates from practicing medicine in the state. The prediction is made by Dr. Philip (^. Thomsen, author of the disclosure in the official publication of the Illinois State Medical Society. He reports that the state's Department of Registration and Education has served notice that a "stepped up pro- I gram of enforcement of the Medical Practice Act will be implemented immediately", The state medical society supported recent legislation to enable the attack to be waged on four fronts: 1. Data will be obtained from every hospital on the licensure status of all those who use its facilities. 2. Frequent visits will be made to practitioners' offices to make sure that each individual who represents himself as an "M.D." is, in fact, legally authorized to do so. . 3. A continuing effort will be made to make sure that all chiropractic and osteopathic physicians who- practice within the state of Illinois are properly licensed to do so. be made of nurses' registration and of nursing education within the state.
