Founded several years ago by a band of fathers who wished to channel the energies of young boys in the right direction and leave them less time for mischievous acts, the little leauge has served the community well and furthered the cause of sportsmanship. The' present manager, Merwyn Schmitt, will be leaving the community very soon and can no longer lead the club. But he is extremely concerned about it and is looking for a successor. Bill Brennan founded the organization, and together with the men who helped him and Merv, it is a going concern. There are plenty of uniforms, equipment AND MONEY! Surely there MUST be one father in the community who will talk on the responsibility of taking over the management. The job is a bit time consuming but well worth the effort. Retains Post of Republican County Chairman What promised to be a spiritted contest for the office of^Republican County Chairman, resulted in complete victory for the incumbent Jake Levesque. He was returned to his second two year term at the county convention, Monday, April 27, in the Court House annex, Woodstock. The names of Jere Dodge of Algonquin township and Alvin Querhammer of Nunda were also submitted, but Jake's strength gained him election on the first ballot. Vice chairman is Art Giovannoni of Algonquin, William LeFew of Chemung is secretary ,and William Yerke of Chemung is treasurer. In addition to beipg president of the village, Jake operates his own business and is serving as administrative assistant to state treasurer William J. Scott. Village Board In the absence of village president Jake Levesque at the last meeting of the elected officials, Monday, April 27, Art Nelson was named temporary chairman. Jake was attending the county convention in Woodstock. Mr. Stuhlfeier, chairman of roads, reported that repairs will be made on the streets where necessary. Recently they were in Clinton, Iowa, as the guests of Joe Busch and witnessed him run his class A fuel dragster at the dragstrip in Cordova, 111. According to Carol, Mr. Busch has an established reputation in racing circles. In 1957, he held the record for the world's fastest roadster and has continued to set records. At this particular meet, the Batemans were thriilfed when their friend turned in the lowest elapsed time of the day even though his-vehicle developed major engine trouble. Summer Festival July 25 Last weekend the couple was scheduled to visit the dragstrip in Crown Point, Ind., to watch Mr. Bush chalk up further victories. Saturday, July 25, was named summer festival day in the village by Bill Walter who will handle the general chairman ship for the Cullom-Knoll Association., sponsors of the affair. The announcement was made last Sunday at the first general meeting of the organization for this year. According to Bonny Egerstaffer who is in charge of maintenance and repairs of the beach equipment, he and Rich Johnson have almost completed the job of repairing the picni¥ benches. A work party is scheduled for Sunday, May 17, to do the necessary painting and launch the raft. Another reminder next week. The meetings will continue to be held the first Sunday of each month at 3 p.m. North Fox Valley District Referendum, May 23 Mark Ringelstetter and Chase Koch are serving on a large committee to acquaint residents in this area which includes the northern portion of McHenry County and Lake County on the necessity for clean water. Many of the lakes and the rivers are becoming polluted which endangers animal, plant, and human lives. The matter will be put to a vote to establish funds for the preservation of clean water on Saturday, May 23. According to Mr. Ringelstetter, we vote somewhere in McHenry. Weekend In Chicago The Leo Hartogs (that's us) were weekend guests of Alan and Helen Armstrong who live at 4960 Marine Drive in the big city. While there we attended a cocktail party and dinner at the apartment of my sister who resides in the same building, the occasion being a birthday party for my niece. We had a nice time but were glad to get back out of the city again. That Sunday traffic is not for us. We were almost stampeded when a light changed on our way home. Receiving a score of 145 or' above on the "How do we Rate" section of the form was Batfrington, which was recognized as honor chapter. The chapters which received a score of 55 or above on the public relations section of the chapter evaluation are recognized with appropriate awards.
