The girls are not marching in the parade Saturday. Girl Scouts We had no news from our Girl Scouts in last week's column so here is what took place at that time. We opened our meeting with Our Promise and the Pledge to the Flag. We talked about our hike coming this Saturday. We picked a name from a hat to be "my square lady" in a play. Last week's meeting we talked about our trip to Brookfield zoo which is coming up. We practiced Skip to my Lou. Then we asked Mr. Mecic to be one who would drive us to the Zoo, He said he would. Mr. Mecic started our friendship circle. The Girl Scouts were able to work on their cooking and gypsy badges last Saturday when they took a 3 mile hike to Veterans acres in Crystal Lake. Cars transported them part way and they hiked the last 3 miles. The girls completed their cooking badge by cooking tomato soup, roasting weiners and making friend potatoes. Each patrol was assigned a certain task such as getting water, gathering wood for fire and a clean up committee. Mrs. Dowell took half of the girls for a hike, making trail signs for the other girls to follow. Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Mecic followed along the trail with the other girls 10 minutes later. The girls must have laid a pretty good trail because no one got lost. The following girls took part in the day of fun and achievement; Alicia Sweeney, Debbie Gladman, Kim Worm, Mary Dowell, Debbie McCarthy, Mary Johnson, Holly Koehl, Debbie Franklin, Leah Rode, Dorothy Loser, Barbara Tiffany, and Maria and Ava Mecic. Mrs. Mecic and daughter, Karen, were guests as was Judy Johnson, Mrs. Johnson's younger daughter, and of course Mrs. Dowell. Brownies The Brownies will have their last meeting until September Pink Bundles On May 15 a baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Pete Parisi. Sandy is being married to Jim Neff on June 27. Another bridal shower on Sunday was given by Jean Czajkowski for her granddaughter, Beverly Grote. Many beautiful gifts were received by both girls. Strolling Through The Park The Koch family had a good scare last Saturday when 11 year old Mike had a severe attack of appendicitis. They rushed him to the clinic where he was checked and blood tests were taken. Luckily for him, his blood count wasn't bad enough to warrant operating and after resting a while he was able to return home. Hope you're feeling better Mike. Get-well wishes also go to Kevin Druml who had a case of tonsillitis with a high fever last Monday. Hope you're feeling better Kevin and also David Wagner who had tonsillitis too. We're glad Cathy Humann's leg is better, now, and hope Johnny Zimney's hand is healing. He cracked a finger while playing ball at school last Thursday and is sporting a cast. The Hendels had a big birthday celebration last Sunday to celebrate John and Marty's birthdays. John was 7 on May 27 and Marty's birthday was in April. Their grandparents came out from Chicago and Roselle along with their aunts and uncles. They were served a delicious ham dinner with all the trimmings. Carole Humann attended a baby shower for Don's cousin, Decise Boyce, in Chicago last Sunday. Strolling Through The Park Cindy Kamp stepped on a nail necessitating a doctor's vism We sure hope Gregg Braun is feeling better after having the red measles. Sorry we missed the first birthday of little Carie Antepenko on May 23. They celebrated with a party last Sunday for all the family. Don't forget our Little League open meeting at 7:30 p.m. May 27 for early paper getters. We wish to welcome the Beasleys back from Florida and with regret say good-bye to Ed and Carol Altmann who have moved to Crystal Lake and to Jim and Alice Quaiver who are moving to Arizona. We certainly hope you will all be very happy in your new homes. Birthday wishes go to Lonnie Jett on her very first birthday. Lonnie's grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Werner Henneberg, both of Lakeland Park. Our Tripoley players met last Thursday afternoon for a delicious luncheon served by Grace Mandziara. Those attending were Edna Hountras, Louise McEnery, Ruth McMahon, Delia Julian, Ivy Lezak and Ann Herzog. Helen Kraskiewlcz was unable to attend. Lucille Dietz was hostess to the Wednesday evening bridge club, on May 20. Those attending were Ann Herzog who won first prize, Ann Leigh who was second, and Gayle Laursen, Ruth Chadwick, Ruth MacMahon, Ivy Lezak, and Delia Julian. Joyce Braun was home with her son, Gregg, who had the measles. Last weekend a few of the Millstream Campers rode up to Pleasant Lake in Wisconsin for the weekend. Ivy and Stan Lezak with Delia Julian went on Saturday, and on Sunday Ann Herzog, and Helen and Gene and son Mike Kraskiewicz joined them for a day of fun and cards. Ron Braun and his three oldest kids also went up on Saturday while Joyce stayed home with the baby and Gregg and his measles. It seems that Ron isn't quite used to cooking for he burnt the bacon so they relegated other duties for him so he wouldn't be able to burn any more food and leave them starving. Last Wednesday afternoon, Ivy Lezak had a birthday party for Danny's sixth birthday. Those attending were Susan Horenberger, Cindy Braun, Bobby Stack and Mike Kraskiewicz. Virginia Hodges -is still recuperating in the hospital and I know she likes to hear from people and have visitors. Get better real soon Virginia.
