V*"' A ;; ; #»»• .»•*•• ' MCCULLOM LAKE NEWS EVE LEVBSQUE 885-3191 DEFEAT SEWER REFERENDUM BY FORTY-NINE VOTES A near record number of 326 ballots were cast on Saturday to decide whether the village of McCullom Lake would build a sanitary disposal plant and the issue was defeated by 49 votes. The yes ballots totaled 136 and 185 no votes were counted. Five ballots were spoiled but were marked against the system. Judges of the election were Elma Nelson, Margaret Olsen, Eleanor Creutz, Irene Sales and this reporter. The polls were open from 6 a.m. until 6 pim. Village Board For lack of a quorum, no meeting of the president and trustees was held. The next regular scheduled meeting will be held Monday, June 22, at 8 p.m. The public is invited. Surgical Patients Chester (Shorty) Sheriff underwent emergency surgery late Saturday night at McHenry hospital which lasted into Sunday morning. When his condition worsened, Pauline wished to have her son, Robert, by her side. He resides in L^ke Forest but was participating in a bowling match in Waukegan. Through the efforts of the Lake County police and a telephone operator in Woodstock, he was located and came directly to the hospital. According to Pauline, Shorty's condition was fair on Monday morning. Mrs. Louise Hammerstein was under the surgeon's scalpel ih St. Anthony's hospital, Chicago, south side, a week ago Monday. According to Mrs. Hammerstein,, the surgery was necessary because of an injury received when she and Ed were in an automobile accident on New Year's Eve. Basketball Team For Former Residents With the birth of their fifth son on Thursday, June 11, Helen and Bill Scheid are raising their own basketball team! Daniel Robert tipped the scales at 6 lbs. 11 oz. at McHenry hospital. His brothers who were on hand for the official greeting on Monday morning were George, 10, Jim, 9, David, 8, and Donny, 5. Helen says this li'l fella is platinum blond and may have curly hair! Best wishes to the entire family. The Scheid family, who formerly resided on Maple Hill Drive, now call Cooney Heights their home. on the very successful rummage sale held last month and thanked the women who contributed their services. F-red Matthesius received special commendation for donating the pipe for the special racks which can be used over and over. Excellent idea. The gals also discussed the possibility of having the weeds cut in the swimming area. Marie McKim will pursue this project. During the social portion of the evening, Harriet McNamara, Edith Brendle, Elma Nelson, Helen Lorch, Marie McKim, Emma Pyritz and Louise Berquist were made very happy. Harriet McNamara and Marge Olsen furnished the delicious "tasty pastry". No more meetings until the second Thursday in September. Helen Lorch made her report New Grandma For The Tenth Time Ruth Radtke is spreading the word about the birth of her tenth grandchild on June 8. Timothy Joseph was born in St. Therese's hospital, Waukegan, and weighed in at 8 lbs., 3 oz. His mom and daCJ&re, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Radtke of Sunnyside. Their other children include Terri Lynn, almost 9, Laurie Ann, almost 8, Robin Marie, 6, Jeffrey Paul, 4, and Linda Lee, 3. McDonald's "Playboy" Bowling "Tigers" Five handsome well dressed guys departed these shores last week for a night on the town. The evening proved both entertaining and educational. They had dinner in the loop and watched the animals and the floor show in the Playboy Club. Recovering Chester Helwig came home from Downey hospital after 72 days of confinement. He looks pale, but feels quite well. From the damage done to his heart, he can not return to work and is allowed only a limited amount of activity. Butch Kennenberg is recovering from his bout of pneumonia last week, but May says no more work for him either. She says he has earned the right to retire! Better Late Than Never This is hardly brand new news, but the little lady deserves coverage. Laura Ann Huff joined her new family on March 31 in Harvard hospital. At the time, she checked in at 6 lbs., 14 oz. Her mom and dad are Ann Marie and Gene and big brother's name is Stephen Nicholas who will be 2 on July 13. Double Celebration About twenty-five adults and kids gathered at the home of Carol and Tom Bateman for a double birthday celebration on Friday, June 12. Celebrants were Tommy who turned 2 on June 10 and John Michael who was 5 on June 13. Orchid Occasions Tammy White is 5 today, June 18 .. . Cousins Kathy and Janet Murray will be 17 on June 19. This is also the natal day for Elma Nelson and Len Jensen, Jr. . . . SCIENTISTS HOLD ANNUAL MEETING AT MOTHER CHURCH A call to use "spiritual power" to help solve the world's "thorny problems of human relations and race inequalities" greeted Christian Scientists at their annual meeting in Boston last week. Several thousand members from many states and countries attended the meeting at the Mother Church, The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts. A message from the Christian Science board of directors reaffirmed the church's conviction that the mightiest force on earth is "the still small voice of universal Christian idealism."
