It is a great pleasure for me to be able to write such wonderful news item. Arthur and Clara Ernst, 5604 North Meadow Hill Lane, will be celebrating their long awaited day June 20. Arthur was born Oct. 25, 1884, in Hannover, Germany. Clara was born Oct. 25, 1892 in Kankakee. Their families moved to Chicago where in later years Arthur and Clara met at her father's home. They were married June 20, 1914, at Niles, Mich., at the home of her parents with the Reverend F. H. Rahn officiating. They went right in to a home of their own, Arthur was too busy to take a honeymoon. Their bridesmaid was Margaret Fischer, now deceased, their bestman was William Schumann, who went back to Germany where he still lives. Arthur was employed as a lithographer, a profession he followed all his life. The Ernsts have three daughters, Claire Marie Stratford and Dorothy Ernst, both of Chicago, and Helen Ries of DesPlaines. They have one grandchild, Judy Ries. During their married life they have lived in Niles, Mich., Chicago and Seattle, Wash. They moved to Pistakee Highlands August 20, 1963. Their hobbies are photography, flowers and enjoying their happy married life. Their home with the beautiful yard is a showplace. Arthur and Clara can be seen in the yard from sun up until sun down and they love living in Pistakee Highlands. The Ernsts will hold open house for all their friends and relatives. Their three daughters and sons-in-law will be on hand to help them celebrate this big event. Out of town guests are: Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Buesing, Arthur's cousins of Apple Valley, Calif., Clara's sister, Mrs. Laura Collins, of Seattle, Wash., and lifetime friends, Mr. and Mrs. William Finer of Daytona Beach, Fla., Jean Hamilton, their niece from Niles, Mich., and Clara's 84 year> old cousin, Miss Harriet Benner, and her 90 year old aunt and godmother, Mrs. O. Gohlke of Chicago, plus many friends and relatives, from Chicago, DesPlaines and Park Ridge.. The Ernsts are members of the Park Ridge Community church and Clara still attends the affairs with the ladies from the church. All the neighbors join me in wishing Arthur and Clara continued good health and many more years together. We are proud to call you neighbors and we offer our sincere congratulations to you both. Snell Anniversary LeRoy and Gertrude Snell, 5711 North Lake Road, will be celebrating their golden wedding anniversary with a host of friends. Roy and Gert were both born in Chicago, Roy on Oct. 11, 1891 and Gertrude Lignell Snell on June 2.5, 1893. They wore married June 23, 1914. Their bridesmaid was Gcrt's gister, Mildred, who lives in Chicago and their bestman was LeRoy's brother, Harry, now deceased. Roy and Gert were introduced at a dance. The Snells were blessed with three children, two sons, Roy and Robert, of Chicago and a daughter,' Grace Reinhardt. The Snells make their home with their daughter, Grace, and son-in-law, Forrest Reinhardt, Sr., since they moved here nine years ago. Both of their sons served in World War II. The Snells have seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, two of their grandchildren Gloria Reinhardt Mack and Forrest Reinhardt, went to school in Johnsburg and Mc- Henry. One great grandchild, Denise, has grown up with the Snells. LeRoy was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad for 31 years and retired February 1954. His hobbies are fishing and playing cards. Gert's hobbies are her family, hubby and cards and working at the Mc- Henry hospital Pink Lady Shoppe. She has been a member of the Pink Lady Sewing Guild of the Auxiliary to the McHenry hospital and has received stars for the hours she puts in every month at the Pink Lady Shoppe. She is also a member of the Pistakee Highlands Women's club. Their children are having a big party for them June 14, in Park Ridge for close friends and relatives of the family. It will be a dinner, dancing and loads of fun for this very active young couple. On June 23, which is also Gert's birthday, their daughter, Grace, will hold open house for her parents from 6 to 9 p.m. I am proud and happy to call Roy and Gert friends. I love them both very much and their many friends in the Highlands love them too, and they want to join me in wishing this popular couple many more years together. Roy has been very active in civic affairs in the Highlands and was an avid worker for the Johnsburg Rescue Squad fund drive. He walked my legs off on that drive and he did a wonderful job. Mount Hope Church News At the 11 a.m. services June 7, Everett Sisk was Lay Reader, the Greeters were Dolores and Arthur Oakley, the Candle Lighter was Doreen Patterson and Reverend Doenecke's sermon was titled "Continuing The Church". Sunday, June 14, the Reverend Donald Hescott, brother of , Mrs. Doenecke, brought the message to the members. June 7, at 1 p.m. the Youth Group enjoyed a picnic on the church grounds playing ball, games and enjoying fellowship and delicious food. June 7, many members of the church attended the open house at the new parsonage at Ingleside. Pastor and Mrs. Hagerty welcomed them, Reverend Hagerty had served the Mount Hope church when It was first founded and had made many friends here. Hostesses for the June 9, Women's Society of Christian Service meeting were Dolores Bischoff and Saki Kawahara. Wednesday, June 10, at 7:30 p,m, the home visitation group held their meeting, Dolores Oakley is chairman of the group and can use many volunteers calling on 100 families. June 20 the Bykotas will meet for an evening of fun. Keep the date open so you can join the group. Rev. Doenecke offers congratulations to the graduates of Johnsburg and McHenry high. He read the invocation prayer at the Johnsburg school. Happy Father's Day To All I wish to take this opportunity to wish all the fathers in the Highlands a most happy Father's Day, June 21. Birthdays And Anniversaries Birthday greetings this week go to Gert Snell, June 23, to my nephew Mike Jesweak, June 20, and one of my favorite brothers-in-law, Pat Daley, June 20, Catherine Selvage, June 24, and last but not least to a very pretty young lady, Jamie Maiek, who will be celebrating her eighth birthday June 21. The couples celebrating their anniversaries this week are: Ray and Rosemary Thelen who wiil be celebrating 13 years of wedded bliss, Arthur and Clara Ernst, golden wedding anni versary June 20, and Roy and Gert Snell's golden wedding anniversary June 23. Cub Scout Picnic June 8, the Cub Scout and Weblos enjoyed a day at the Illinois Beach State Park, in Zion. Mrs. Jeanne Hillstrom, Mrs. Marilyn VanZevern and Mrs. Joan Megley escorted the boys for the day, Mrs. Betty Zenner, who was to have been an escort, had to stay home due to measles in the family. Honor Two Members June 11, the Pink Lady Sewing Guild of the Auxiliary to the McHenry hospital held a smorgasbord luncheon at the McHenry Country Club in honor of Lorraine Lindemann Who is moving from the Highlands June 13, and for Gert Snell in honor of her golden, wedding anniversary. Lorraine and Gert received many nice gifts from the girls. The Sewing Guild is very unhappy losing such a faithful member as Lorraine, The women from the Highlands who attended were: Gert Snell, Lorraine Lindemann, Marge Moreth and Vi Schubie. Both Gert and Lorraine were greatly surprised, Gert was told it was a farewell party for Lorraine and Lorraine went thinking it was a surprise party for Gert's golden wedding anniversary. News Of Your Friends And Neighbors Jack and Ann Winters of Meadowlark Drive have much to talk about. Both are avid pinochle players and spend many- evenings playing with Bill and Claire Rendel and June 6, Jack came up with a 1500 hand for the first time in his fifty years of playing the game. June 6, Adam and Georgia Rzechula gave a big graduation party for their daughter, Sharon, who graduated from McHenry high as a B student. Many relatives and friends were on hand for the big event. Karen hopes to become a secretary and take vocal lessons. Karen has a very beautiful voice and sings with the Mount Hope choir. We wish Karen much luck in her future. Jeff and Scott Wieck spergt two weeks with their maternal grandparents in Morris. « Richie and Dorothy Orlowski spent June 7 in Chicago at the home of Dorothy's nephew, David, and Peggy McDonald for a graduation party for their grandniece' Robin's graduation. Dick and Haze Morley and kiddies spent June 7, in Round Lake at the home of Dick's sister, Helen, and Don for a graduation party for Dick's nephew, Kenny. June 7, Charlie and Rose Schnifferdecker were pleasantly surprised when Rose's brother and family paid them an unexpected visit, the boys spent the day fishing and the women enjoyed the yard and making dinner. August and Jean Tomsa have returned from Olathe, Kansas, where they spent 10 days with their daughter and seven children. They attended the graduation of their granddaughter who graduated as an honor student with a 95 plus average from high school. Ron and Pat Jackson will entertain their fathers and families with a big family dinner and celebration for Father's Day. It will be a combined Father's day and birthday celebration for their son, Robbie, who will be celebrating his ninth birthday, June 23. Don and Audrey Morin ,will be having their fathers and families with them for father's day. Don's parents from Chicago and Audrey's Dad, Mr. Anderson, from Grand Junction, Mich., and Audrey's sister, Jackie, and family and Audrey's brother and family will be on hand to make the day complete. The celebration in addition to honoring the fathers will be a birthday celebration for Mr. Anderson who celebrated his birthday June 17. Don's parents spent June 6 and 7 with the Morins and they took Tommy back with them to spend a few days in Chicago. June 12, 13 and 14 found the Morins in Timber Lake, Wis., camping with Audrey's sister, Jackie, and family. Friends of Jackie's were also there from Chicago so the three couples had a ball all weekend. The adult committee of the Cub Scout Pack 452 held a potluck supper at the home of Ray and Rosemary Thelen. June 10. Blanche Haefliger is making a plea for food and clothing for some very worthy Indian families in the Waukegan area. Blanche is the Indian affairs chairman for th<j Women's club. John Havlik was honored with a big graduation party June 6, at the Havlik home. John is a very talented designer and designed the Wild Cat emblem that all the Johnsburg students are sporting on their sweatshirts and jackets. Walter and Lucy Kerber enjoyed a dinner with Lucy's brother and wife on Howard Street, Whispering Hills, June 9. Attention all mothers the Story Hour is held every Thursday afternoon from 1:30 p.m. at the community center. It will give your children an afternoon of fun in listening to interesting stories. The women from the Highlands who attended the Blessed Virgin Sodality meeting June 9, were: Jean Tomsa, Kay Sielisch, Betty Zenner, Rose Schifferdecker, Marilyn VanZevern and Dorothy Jenkins. Betty Croasdale is having a grand time taking care of her three year old niece and godchild, Betty will have her for two weeks and as soon as her new sister or brother arrives she will go back home.
