These will sometimes disappear when rubbed with your usual polish. If not, use rottenstone or finely powdered pumice,, mixed to a thin paste With, raw or boiled linseed oil. Rub in the direction of the {Train. Wipe with another cloth moistened with plain llhseed. Repeal a number off times, if necessary, then polish. , Q. What can I do if a rubber suction-cup type of wall bracket doesn't grip a smooth, slick wall properly and is constantly falling down? A. Try rubbing the rim of the suction cup with a little pycerin before you press it back into place. This usually affords an airtight grip. Q. How can I prevent a dark ring around the yolk of a hardboiled egg? A. By boiling the egg no longer than 15 minutes, and then/placing it in cold water. How can I remove ink Spots from wallpaper? A. Most Ink spots can be removed by applying a weak solution of watfer and oxalic acid. Apply .with a paintbrush, and press with blotting paper immediately, sjf the acid might affect, the .color of .the. paper. This process may need repeating a second or tfctfa time for good results. Q. How can I prevent fingernails from bieaking so easily? -- A. Massage them every night before retiring with olive oil. Regular buffing also invigorates the nails. They will achieve a common color and be matched if hciled slowly for about 15 minutes in enough water to cover. Allow to cool in the pan, then rinse, and hang up to dry. Q. How can I tighten the handle of ah umbrella that has loosened? A. Fill the hole in the handle with powdered pepsin, heat the rod, and press firmly into the hole--then lay it aside for awhile to set. \ Q. How can I remove an ink stain from a rug? A. How can I remove stains caused by leather rubbing against a fabric? A. These are on the difficult side. However, if the fabric is washable, try a thick soap-andwater solution, rubbing well over the fabric. You might make matters easier, too, if gylcerin is worked into the stain first and allowed to stand awhile before washing. For unwashable fabrics, try glycerin, working this into the stain carefully by rubbing lightly between the hands. Let this remain for awhile, then rinse by sponging with water. Q. How can I cope with a kitchen drain that has become stopped up with grease? A. Often you can melt the grease by holding an electric iron, turned to its hottest point, against the drainpipe at the trap. Then allow the hot water to run for several minutes. Q. How can I restore the cedar odor to an old cedar chest or closet? A. By Just a light sandpapering of the wood. Q. What can I do about boi)K lice? A* These are Insects that feed on microscopic molds that grow, oil furniture, wallpaper, and other house furnishings. They thrive In rooms that have been closed or poorly ventilated. Rout them by spraying the Infested places with a fiveper- cent DDT oil spray. Q. What can I do if, while putting on a dress, I have gotten some lipstick on it? A. Use a little rubbing alcohol on the stain, going over it gently with a bit of clean cloth. And in the future, avoid such a calamity by holding a clean tissue between your lips as you slip the dress over your head. O. How can I restore and revitalize the color in a pair of multi-hued shoes? A. You can often do a fine job of this by applying some liquid food coloring with a damp cloth. Q. How can I renew checked or "crazed" varnished or lacquered surface on furniture? A. This can often be done simply by using a pad of. fine steel wool dipped in rotfonstone paste. Rub until the surface is smooth to the touch, then wipe off with a rag dipped into thinner, apply two coats of wax, and huff it down. Q. How can I remove shine from suits and skirts? A. Use a brush dipped into a mixture of equal parts of pure cold vinegar and vtarm water. Put a pressing cloth between your iron and the garment to prevent further shine. Q. How can I remove dried paint spatters from my window panes? A. By soaking them with hot vinegar, giving this a few minutes to soak in, then rubbing or scraping off. Q. He received his education at schools in North Dakota, Johnsburg and Spring Grove. He is married to Viann Wagner Justen and the couple have seven children. He is employed in a local garage as a body and fender man. Ed is a member of the Foresters and the Moose.
