Each girl was to have as her guest either her sponsor or a city official. Since I was unable to accept Leigh's kind invitation --her mother went in my place. I was her sponsor in 1963. Miss - McHenry County reported on ~ her trip to the state fair. She will return there in January to compete for another - title, Miss Illinois State "Fair. Each girl was presented '. with a bottle of perfume as a gift from their host. Water Ski Club Holds Annual Show The Wonder Lake Water Ski Club will hold its sixth annual ski show at Look Out Point No. 2 beach in Wonder Lake on Sept. 6. High light of the show this year will be a sky diving team who will make three Jumps into the lake before, during and after the show. One of the local stars of the show will not be present this > year. Miss Laura Bixby, a member of the club, is working this season with the Tommy Bart let t Water Show at the Dells in Wisconsin. Ronee Sommers, the 1964 Miss Wonder Lake, is a member of the club and will appear this year. The Wonder Lake Ski Club started out in 1955 with only eight teenagers who had a common interest in water skiing but who individually couldn't, afford all the necessary skiing equipment. They grouped together, formed their club and pooled their resources. Their first piece of equipment was a saucer wjjioRV'ost each member a total of eighty cents. Ron Simczak is president of the club, Glen Riedel is athletic director, Don Bintz is director, William Bodi is announcer. The "Kite Act" will be performed by Terry Brannberg. You'll enjoy an afternoon watching this thrill show of the season. Fifth Anniversary Evelyn and Gerald Raske o 7506 Wooded Shores Drive will celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary on Aug. 29 with dinner at home for friends and relatives and a swim party - -weather permitting. On Sept. 30, which is the birthday of Gerald, Jr., a birthday party and dinner will be celebrated at home. Burglary Attempt At Wonder Lake Post Office Paul Eberle, postmaster, reported an attempted break-inlast Friday morning at 6:30 a.m. when he opened the post office. An attempt had been made to enter through the back door by using a wrench to remove the door-knob. However, the door and door-knob of an inside room which secures the postoffice from the rest of the building, had not been forced. Bridge-Cana'sta Tournament All you card sharps line up! The tournament is about to.begin again. The date is Sept. 13 for the kick-off. From them on every second Sunday evening of each month play will continue at Christ the King hall starting at 7 p.m. Last ^-seasons tournament proved so successful that this year it/will strtrt (farlier in the fall, yvouples vJrtusbands and wjveK) or friends or steadies remain partners through the tournament. It remains at the same time each month -- 7 to 10 p.m. with refreshments served. Luncheon Sept. 8 Treat ypiirself to a delicious Wond^pview Association News The Wonderview Improvement Association wishes to remind the residents of Wonderview that assocation dues for those who have not paid will be due on Sept. 1. At the September meeting of the board of dir e c t o r s t h e r o u t e f o r r o a d maintenance and snow plowing will be revised to keep it up ^o date with the paid up membership. Special consideration will be given to associate members assuring them access of the Wonder Lake blacktop. A partial payment plan can be arranged if needed. Contact the treasurer, Mrs. Clara Meyers, at 2817 Walnut Drive. A new grading blade was purchased for the road equipment and since then the road commission men have been out working on the roads evenings. Wonderview Women's Auxiliary The latest meeting of the Wonderview Women's Auxiliary was held Aug. 20 at the home of Mrs. Bernice Jerls. A final rummage sale for this year will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12, at the association house from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. Special Dollar Day -- Bernice Jerls, Ethel Moore and Vi Borta were appointed as a committee in charge of arranging for the appreciation dinner which will be held on Oct. 16. This will be for auxiliary members and association officers and their spouses. Location of the dinner will be announced later. Nancy expects her baby in September. TOPS Club To Start Teen Chapter The local TOPS Club has two women in their chapter who have volunteered to act as advisors for a Teen-Age Chapter. The Teens will govern their own chapter but in accordance with the rules of TOPS, Inc. they must have an adult supervise their meeting and act as an advisor. The group now had two volunteers so we are ready to start our teen Chapter. If you are interested in taking off ten or more pounds and are having a problem getting it off why not join a TOPS Group. Steele, staff member of the Blackhawk Area council, Boy Scouts of America, has been appointed to fill the position of assistant executive, it was announced by Reinhold G. Miller, Scout executive. The appointment becomes effective Sept. 1. He is a graduate of the 130th National Training "school, conducted by the Boy Scouts of America at Mendham, New Jersey. This past summer he has served as the director of the Lowden summer camp. Among his other assignments he has served with Council advancement committee.
