It's the first meeting for the 1964-65 season for the Lakeland Park Woman's Club and the entertainment committee has come up with a gift exchange for the social part of the evening. No ladies don't make a wild dash to the local stores for a gift, this is a gag and humor party and the gifts are to be something you no longer want. Any oldjsweater, purse, shoes and etc., are considered as gifts for the evening, there is one thing they don't ask to be brought as gifts and that's your better half, he's needed at home to do the baby sitting while you're attending the meeting. Come on all you ladies of the park get down to the hall at 8:30-and have a very pleasant evening with a real nice activj^grpup. Cindy was climbing a tree at Herzog beach when a branch gave way and she fell 30 feet. She sustained a broken wrist and ankle and is unable to be moved because of the possibility of broken vertebraes in her spine. (Cindy is laying on a board at McHenry hospital until the doctors can move her enough to find out how badly her back is injured. She is not able t</ eat as all her teeth have been knocked loose. They §re still keeping close tabs for internal injuries. We're sure many cards sent to Cindy would help to cheer her just a little. Heard that huge blister on Terry Funk's hand has finally "broken. Ronnie Kamp had a rapid visit to the doctor last week for two shots when he was stuck by a dart. Karl Lense suffered from a badly lacerated tongue. Kevin Druml was the victim of a foreign object in the lake and has a badly cut toe and foot. Hope Bill Bates' torn ligament doesn't keep him from too many football games. Mary Daurio was among, those hit by a bug of some kind keeping her close to home and bed. Our best also goes to Helen Strandquist and Carole Humann also. Hope by our next column everyone is much improved. Strolling Through The Park Marion Duffy celebrated her birthday in grand style on Slept. 2 with the following neighbors, Wilma Atkinson, Beulah Hoard, Lorraine Arient, Gloria Vanek, Agnes Prazak, Grace Campo, James Grothman and Rose Dolenski. Coffee cake and plenty of gabbing was the order of the day. Donna Johnson spent several days visiting with her good friend, Kathy Becker. Donna also went on her first campout with the Becker family to Starved Rock. Jackie Geishecker of Evanston spent most of last week visiting with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Oswald. Jackie enjoyed fishing each day she was here with her grandpa, and cousins, Buddy, Dennis and Kevin Druml. Wednesday evening the Druml family joined Jackie in enjoying one of grandma's luscious chicken dinners. Sunday, the balance of the Geishecker family came out for dinner and to show the beautiful colored slides they had taken on their trip to Canada and Niagara Falls. The Geishecker family, besides Jackie, include* Blanche, Ed and their other four daughters Janice,, Joyce, Judy and June. Visiting with Dorothy and Karl Lense for the past few days have been their niece and nephew," Mark and Beth. Never knew two weeks could fly by so very rapidly but they have and our number 1 son has returned to his Air Force Base and school. Only a mother of a son in service knows what I mean when I say it all went by too fast. Bud did get in most of the things he wanted to do and that was lots of sleep and lots of fishing. Hope he enjoyed being home as much as we all enjoyed haying him. Pat and Paul Richardson and family completed their two week vacation last week. The first week Pat and Paul rented a camper trailer and took a trip to New Orleans while their two children stayed at grandma's. Paul had a friend who was in the Navy with him who lived down there and they enjoyed a nice visit with the family. They returned home to spend the second week doing odd job around the house as well as putting finishing touches to their new garage. On Wednesday they again took the day off to take the children to the Brookfield Zoo. The kids enjoyed this immensely, including the porpoise show which was something to see. Other visitors to the zoo last week were the Meurer family who attended the same porpoise show as the Richardsons although they didn't get close enough to say hello. Barb Muerer and the four children went into Maywood Wednesday morning on their way to the zoo. This was Grandma and Grandpa's first time in about 15 years and they really enjoyed themselves. Alan, Shirley and Johnny are enjoying the last few days of their vacation in at Grandma's. The George enjoyed a day at the Zoo on Tuesday even though they saw all kinds of bears, deer and other wildlife out west. You can't help but get enthused as Shirley George recounts some of the adventures they had on their recent camping trip out west. Of course, when they tell you about the road up to the top of some of the mountains where you ride right along the edge of a sheer drop off and how they walked across the suspension bridge over the Royal Gorge and looked down and found nothing below for miles, it would take a little persuasion to get my husband, Ron, to go ouff that way. A lot of cold weather had them coming home a little sooner than they expected. Ivy, Stan and Danny Lezak, Delia Julian and Ann Herzog camped out at Rock Cut State Park near Rockford for a few grand and glorious days last week. They enjoyed the scenery and their usual card games to the fullest. Kathy and Barbara Humann have returned home to be with their mom. Carole's family is once again complete and happy. SHEEP STATUS Illinois sheep were declared free of scabies for the first time after an intensive eradication campaign by the Illinois Department of Agriculture and the U. S. Department of Agriculture, according to a report last week. The scabies-free status makes it no longer compulsory to dip breeder and feeder sheep that are moved from Illinois to another state unless that state requires this precaution.
