Mr. and Mrs. Albert Purvey attended the wake of a friend, Mrs. William Coleman, at the Haggard funeral home in Oak Park, Sunday, and also her funeral which was held there on Tuesday. Martin Smith returned to St. Louis, Tuesday, after spending ten days in the home of his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Michels, and visiting many other relatives in this vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Fowles were weekend guests of relatives in Beloit, Wis., and on Monday attended the Elkhorn Fair. * Mr. and Mrs, ^Stephen N. Schmitt, who' have been spending the summer in McHenry, left Monday by train for a three weeks trip to California where they will visit relatives. They will return to McHenry before leaving for their winter home in St. Petersburg, Fla. Mr. and Mrs. James Mahoney of Chicago spent the Labor Day weekend in the Mrs. Eleanor Foley home. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Muska returned, last week from Kinsport,' Tenn., where Mr. Muska, who was stricken ill while they were returning from Florida, had been confined to the hospital for four months. His many friends here will be happy to know he is making a good recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Purvey and the Gerald Miller family attended a get-together at the home of Mrs. J. C. Purvey in Crystal Lake Sunday. Others present were the William Morgan family of Elkhorn, Wis. and the Donald Church family of Crystal Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Pope of Woodstock were visitors in the home of Irene Guffey Sunday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Phalin of Waukegan visited McHenry relatives and friends Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hollowell, Sr., of Elgin, and Hollywood, Fla., and sonr C. C. Hollowell, Jr., and sons of Elgin were dinner guests in the George H. Johnson home Friday evening. Mrs. Gertrude Justen has just returned from Newport, R. I., where she spent two weeks with her daughter and family, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Bestoso. Fred Bienapfl spent the Labor Day weekend with relatives in Mankato, Minn. Miss Villa Smith of Cleveland, Ohio, was a guest in the Robert Thompson home a few days this week. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Schoewer of Rockford were Tuesday visitors in the Fred Schoewer home. The Robert M. Schiefer family has moved from 612 N. Center street to Rockford. The place they have vacated is being occupied by the new owners, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Bjorkman, and Children. Mrs. Mabel Johnson, Mrs. Kathryn Worts and Mrs. Elizabeth Schoewer attended the monthly meeting of the McHenry County Past Oracles Club held at the home of Mrs. Mabel Peck, in Marengo, Sept. 1. The October meeting Will be in Crystal Lake. Mrs. Nick M. Justen, daughter, Clarene, Mrs. Ben Kennebieck, Mrs. Joseph Bauer and Mrs. Ben Bauer enjoyed their annual sisters get-together and luncheon at a popular eating place near Gurnee Tuesday of last week. - Mr. and Mrs. Morris Crouch and daughters and Miss Kathy Powers have returned from a visit with Mrs. Crouch's relatives in Marshall, Mich. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lawrence of Chicago were weekend guests in the Donald Givens home. Miss Joan Adams was home from her work in Chicago to spent the holiday weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfons Adams. Mrs. Fred Bienapfl accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Benes of Wonder Lake to Rockford Labor Day to visit relatives. Mrs. Louis Thompson of Mankato, Minn., is a guest in the home of her cousin, Fred Bienapfl, this week. AUCTION AND DINNER , The Barnard Mill Community center, located in Ringwood, Will hold a consignment auction and chicken dinner on Sunday, Sept. 20. Dinner will be from 11 on, and the auction will begin at 1:30 p.m. Donations of auction items will be accepted; also, you may have items sold on a consignment tfasis. Mueller, 85, died Thursday morning, §ept. 3, at his home at 4500 W. Parkway avenue, McHenry. He was a retired board marker for a stock brokerage firm in Chicago- An inquiry resulted in a verdict of death due to a heart attack. He was born in Chicago Nov. 20, 1878, and had resided in this community for the past two years. Among survivors is his wife, Marie; and a son, William, of Lakeland Park. The body rested at the Konitzer funeral home at 1723 Larrabee street .Chicago, having been transferred from the Peter M. Justen & Son chapel. Burial was in St. Joseph's cemetery, River Grove. LEONARD JONES Leonard Jones, 73, a resident of 1214 Driftwood drive, Holiday HiUs, died unexpectedly Friday, Sept. 4, while in the office of Dr. Frank Sek. Mr. Jones was born Sept. 3, 1891, in LaCrosse, Wis., and had resided in this community for the past two years. Among his survivors are his wife and two daughters. The body was transferred ^from the George R. Justen & Son funeral home to the Betzer chapel in Delavan for final arrangements. ELIZABETH HOCKER Last rites wore conducted in St. Mary's Catholic church, Riverside, last Friday for Mrs. Elizabeth J. Hocker, 51, of 385 Herick road, Riverside, a summer resident of Pistakee Bay. Death followed a short illness. She is survived by her husband, Marion; her mother, Mrs. Jane Toohill, of Bloomington; one sister and one brother. ALEXANDER MORSE Funeral rites were held last week in Berwyn for Alexander J. Morse, 80, of 4192 S. Palm, McHenry, who died in St. Therese hospital, Waukegan. He was a twenty-four-year resident of the area. Mr. Morse was born in St. Louise, Mo., in 1883. He was a retired bricklayer. OPEN NEW BUSINESS Alyce Shay this past week opened a new business, Shay's Music World, at 1220 N. Green street. She will specialize in piano and organ instruction, and the firm will also carry records, sheet music and musical accessories. Mrs. Shay will be affiliated with the Hammond Organ company, and will have these musical instruments for sale. Mrs. Shay has been teaching music in McHenry for the past twelve years and at one time operated the Alyce Joyce Music Studio.
