Tfamdiy, November 12.1864 THE McHENHY PLAINDEALER BsM Tiz- -S^OaT SUNNYSIDE ESTATES VELMA STEPHENS 385-8423 JERRY ZEIGER HIKES HOME TO CAST FIRST VOTE Hats off to a young man from our neighborhood who voted this year for the first time, and of whom we are very prouM in that he "hitchhiked" all the way home from Whitewater College, in Wisconsin, to cast his first vote in person rather than by absentee ballot. His name,L Jerry Zeiger. After he voted offers were made to take him back to Whitewater >--but Jerry's mind was made up to do this on his own. So, in compliance with his wishes Tom Hanahan, his next door neighbor, took him as far as Route 31 where he resumed hitch-hiking his way back. How did he vote? No one knows -- but love for his country and the privilege of voting, in this great land of ours, for the man of ones choice, shows his spirit to be one of true young Americanism. . Back To Normal: The turnout on election day from our subdivision was tremendous and deeply appreciated by all concerned. Now that election is over we may again resume our natural status -- such as; watching favorite television shows, raking up the remaining leaves on the ground and starting to winterize home and car for the snow and COLD--which will soon be coming around the corner! B-r-r-r, what a horrible thought!!! Protect Our Roads: To avoid flooding and unnecessary erosion of the road shoulders during inclement weather, particularly during the spring thaw, all property owners before the winter snow sets in should make every effort to keep their culverts free of obstructions and debris to permit adequate drainage. Watch Your Parking: In order to prevent weakening of the soft road shoulders all automobiles should be parked In driveways. This is not only necessary to stave off rapid breakup within the easement-- but is also a hazard to driving on our two-lane roads. Owners who do not have proper authorization to park within the easement limits are cautioned that vehicles will be towed away at the owner's expense. Welcome, Neighbors: Darlene and William C. Edelman, and their six children, Jimmy, Larry, Brenda, Joe, Bobbie and Kathy, moved into Krzyak's house, on Indian Ridge Drive, Nov. 1. They originally lived in Chicago, where William works with a roofing company. Looking fory wider open spaces in which to raise their children, they moved out to Lakemoor three . years ago, where they lived until moving here. Darlene, who is 110 pounds of charm and hospitality, says she now feels they have found their place in the sun. No time for hobbies while training the children to share with each other and they have done so well on this score that they not only share whatever they have with each other-- but insistjion sharing with their playmates.v This can pose quite a problem of keeping goodies in the house, but mother curtails this somewhat by keeping candy on a shelf high above the reach of little ones--and doles out only enough to keep the spirit alive. Welcome neighbors, we like your spirit. Hi-Ho Golfers: On a recent sunny Saturday afternoon, around 4 o'clock, Harold Palmer, Don Fail and Mel Simmons decided to play twilight golf and stopped to pick up Jerry Olsen, if available, for a fourth. Jerry, who was destined to be baby sitter until 5 o'clock Was no less than startled by the unexpected early return of the mother of his "brood". As she came in the back door loaded -- with groceries, that is!, he grabbed his golf clubs and scampered out the front door. REALLY, Fran, it was not a put-up job! You should have stood in LINE longer. Train or Restrain: There are still Bow-wows running around the neighborhood loose. Not all the strays are from our own subdivision. We note some influx from our adjoining village neighbors We urge, again, that dog owne EVERYWHERE take suffic, ent interest to avoid creating any trouble. Keep your dog in your own yard. Proud Parents: Genevieve Gerke and daughter, Charlotte, spent last Thursday in Chicago where Charlotte was interviewed for Chicago Teachers College North. Needless to say, she was a<jcepted and what a hap- Py day that was for mother and daughter. They had lunch downtown and spent the remainder of the day riding through different parts pf Chicago to acquaint Charlotte with her new home area when she starts college in January. We too are proud of you, Charlotte, and v/ish you every success. Back From Sick Bay Marcella Miller, recovering from a siege of stomach flu, hds been recuperating at the home of her daughter in Roselle: She has written several notes to frier/ds and neighbors saying she will be returning soon--back to her little house on the hill. This is good news because we all miss her shining light and smiling face. Marty Palmer has also recovered after having to miss school when the nasty old flu bug upset his tummy. Happy Anniversary To Lois and Herb Anderson who have been blissfully wed 15 years today -- To Jo and Ed HOLIDAY HILLS NEWS INEZ YOtTNG 885-4672 MOTHER, DAUGHTER RECUPERATE FROM CRASH INJURIES The most important news item as I write this column is a big bouquet of get-well wishes to Mickey and Penny Walters, who are recuperating from injuries sustained in an accident which occurred last Wednesday, Nov. 4 on Lily Lake Road. Mickey, Penny and Candy were returning home when they were hit head on by another car driving in the wrong lane. After seeing the car, we are gratefully counting our blessings that both are going to be completely well again.
