HOURS 2to 5 p.m. Dally, Including Saturday: Friday Evenings: 7 to 9 p.m. ffl "What Did You Dream?" by M. Jean Craig. Pictures liy Margery Gill What does a small boy dream? The rosy-golden peach knew and the* pointy-pine knew. Even the blue sky knew --for Jeremy told them his dreams. With the sunlight pearly-pink on his window and no sound in the house, Jeremy slipped on his clothes and went out the back door int.o the brilliant new morning. "I dreamt about you last night, peach," Jeremy said to the large and beautiful rosy-golden one--the one he had been waitings for. And when he had told his dream, the peach let go of its branch and dropped down to the lawn--round and ripe, warmed by the morning sun. "Bailey and the Bearcat" by Gene Olson Bill Bailey is touched with pure P. R. genius. Tim Taradash knows it. The trouble is, the public relations rocket just in from the big city is also touched by something else--the genuine hex. Phone 385-1304 for appointment 1-7-65-TF Right now he's fanning the fires of disaster in Booneville. This placid little California town has called its native son home to handle publicity for the annual Cauliflower Festival. Hired to assist him, Tim, high school journalist dreaming of his own P.R. career, divides time between studying Bill's colorful style and acting as chief consultant on the mechanical temperaments of "a. fleet of antique automobifes. The caijs are the living, rattling part of the campaign theme- Wheels West. Scientific P. R. planning calls for a tour of the Booneville Horseless Carriage club through neighboring towns to proclaim the grand historical auto display coming as the main attraction of the Cauliflower Festival. Leading the tour aboard a fcnort ing Stutz Bearcat are those peerless promoters, Bui ley and Taradash. Where they lead it leaves the publicity-minded caravan panting for obscurity. Bailty bloopers give great glee to sharpnosed Sid Hannibal, local radio newscaster who has more than one serious reason for wanting to see failure do its dirty work. How the whole campaign turns out may not put cauliflower at thje head of the table, but the account of it does add up to a bumper crop of laughter for any reader. "Pocketful of Raisins" by Margaret C'rary Holly has a humorous, horrible time as the field trip for which she , came unprepared gets underway. On aching, blistered heels or on horleback, bouncing, she keeps going, though it should kill her. The magnificent scenery, her own discovery of sky animals, i of scents and sounds of the stories in rocks--and everywhere -- captivate her. Holly's love of the wilderness becomes so strong that she cannot wait to return'to it from the bizarre sights of the Yellowstone. Curt has not such difficulties as she on the trip, but neither can he enjoy himself ever. Holly, her capabilities used and appreciated by these other nice youngsters, must compare him with Scott who is left, during their hikes and rides, as End Man to urge on this lagging sheep. "Pocketful of Raisins" makes readers feel they have been to the high country and that they want to go again. Possibly they can manage ' better for reading this amusing tale. Though the basis of real enjoyment and appreciation is presented with a chuckle, there is no doubt why his "princess" in her tin-foil crown likes the "End Mem". High, Wide and Handsome and Theij^ Three Tall Tales" by Jean Merrill and Ronni Solbert. This is a Burmese version Of an old folk talke about the city slicker who matches his wits with three country rascals who are plotting to steal the clothes DEADLINE ,FOIt^*£™. LICENSE PLATES ,;1 IN FIVE WEEKS ' •«. With the holiday season new _ past, Secretary of State WilliaW- H. Chamberlain has reminded motorists that the < deadline for displaying }965 license plates on their motor vehicles is now only five weeks away. Midnight Feb. 15 is the dead- • line for having the current plates^ mounted on the vehicles; not .merely a deadline for hav- • ing Submitted applications,Mr. Chamberlain emphasized. Sihee - about two weeks are requirajl during the°rush period for processing applications, motoriste applying by mail must 'have their applications in the Secretary of State's office by Fell 1 to be sure of having their plates in time, he said. So far this season, only about 1,100,000 applications have been received, 100,000 fewer than at the same time a year ago, Secretary Chamberlain said. The total for the year is expected to be about 4,600,000. • ? . • Urging early application, Mr. Chamberlain pointed out that it has advantages for both mail applicants. and those who purchase their plates at overthe- counter outlets in Springfield and Chicago. The country rascals of this comedy are High, a monkey, Wide, a pig; and Handsome, a fox. High, Wide and Handsome challenge the city slickers, a hound named Rolling Stone, to a storytelling contest, the winner to get stories they tell have the same . the loser's clothes. The tall kind of exaggeration that children themselves love to use in the stories they make up. The story-within-a-story is one of the oldest and most popular ^devices of the folk talf. It is within this tradition that Jean Merrill and Ronnie Solbert have created four miniature dramas that capture, on a child-sized stage, the wonderful entertainment tall tales have provided for all ages in all countries. "Space Flight and How rft Works" by William P. Gottlieb Simple experiments using such familiar objects as marbles, candles, a postage scale, glass jars, balloons, a block of wood, a piece of .rope, help to clarify the answers to some of the most puzzling questions about man's conquest of outer space. The kind of space ship he needs, how he escapes from earth, «jhyhe is weightless in space, howTie- stays in orbit, what he needs to keep him alive while traveling in space, how he returns to earth arc only a few of the subjects explained. Drawings, photographs, and diagrams help unfold some of the many mysteries that, surround man's greatest and most exciting adventure. REGISTERED MALE Pekinese, 1 to' 2 years old.
