The ladies will appreciate cooperation from all of us. Everyone uses goodies of some sort and this is a good place to purchase extra good ones. It will be two fold with your backing, you'll enjoy good homemade cake, pie, cookies, bread and what have, you and also be giving the ladies a helping hand at reaching their yearly goal for their mortgage payment on the Community House. Winter Carnival Postponed Again Last Saturday's weather proved once again not to favor our winter carnival. The committee under Stan Lezak is going to try again on this Saturday evening to hold the affair at Herzog Beach at 7 p.m. There will be races and the usual winter activities along with a huge bon-fire, hot chocolate and coffee and dough-nuts will be served at a nominal fee. Women's Club The community house was alive with color when the Woman's Club held their Valentine social after the meeting last Thursday. Their favorite game was played with prizes going from one person to another. Girl Scouts, Troop 820 Feb. 1 we worked on our badges, cooking, drawing and painting. The cooking girls looked up the history, on spices. The drawing and painting girls made a color wheel and chart. Alicia Sweeney brought cup cakes. Brownie News The girls were taught the "Flag Ceremony" which will be incorporated in our opening ceremony. We read from our Brownie Handbook. The. treat was served by Veronica Bierman, hostess for the week and Karen Roepken who had a birthday. Doris Dowell is hostess for next week. Songs were sung, Friendship circle and the magic tunnel closed our meeting. Roller Skating Party Little League will again sponsor a roller skating party on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 7:30, it will last until 10:30. It's to be held at the roller rink in town. The Dodgers and Braves are still tied for first place with 7 wins, the Cubs and Pirates are tied with 4 wins apiece, the Sox and Yankees are next with three wins a piece and the Mets and Orioles are tied with two wins. There will be bowling again this Saturdiay to make up for the night we missed in January. See you there. Merry Makers The meeting of the Lakfeland Park Merry Makers, our 4-H group, was called to order by the president, Linda Schultz. Roll call was taken by the Secretary, Janice Harris. She read the minutes of the last meeting, the treasurer's report was given. We then talked about selling candy and having a roller skating party on Feb. 11 at 8 p.m. We then had talks and demonstrations. Kathy Hickey then gave a demonstration on "Tools Needed for Sewing." Paulette Rizzo. gave one on Knitting, Janice Harris gave one on a foundation cake. Kevin Schultz made a motion to adjourn the meeting and John Flannigan seconded. Strolling Through The Park Helping Gayle and Bob Laursen celebrate their fifteenth year of togetherness on Feb. 4 were the Gladmans, Duffys and Ron Funk, Susie couldn't join in the enjoyment of the evening due to work, Gayle and Bob and their guests had a wonderful evening. Tommy Wagner was the weekend guest of Paul Schwegel while Tommy's sister, Sharon, had Susie Bitterman of Lakemoor as her house guest for the weekend. Sunday had the Wagner household filled with Gerry's sister and her family. The Lawrence Harrisons call Meadowdale home. Rickey Pike has been spending his two week leave from Chanute Air Force Base at his home on Oak avenue. His mom, dad and family have been enjoying his leave. Sue Grizley has left McHenry hospital for Michael Reese hospital in the city, Susie is to undergo surgery during the week and will be hospitalized for a long time. We're sure she'd enjoy hearing from her friends and neighbors during her stay. I sure hope Sue's serious surgery turns out A-OK and that she'll be up and home long before the doctors have said. - Joyce and Ron Braun and several of Ron's fellow employees attended the Black Hawks hockey game last Sunday, Joyce was very disappoint-? ed with the loss they had to see. Larry Oakford treated his brother, Billy, Del and Roger Gerstad to the Boy Scoufs show on last Saturday evening. Ttie occasion was Larry's 10th birthday. On Sunday of that same weekend Larry had Lawrence Huck,' Jim Couglin, Gerard' Long and his brother, Billy, as guests for the movies and the usual birthday cake and trimmings. Mom "Petey" really out did herself by attending the Tarzan movie when dad Jack came up with a terrific cold and couldn't attend with the guests. Coleen Rogers was honored guest on Monday, Feb. 8, with a Valentine fcirthday party for many of her neighbors and school chums. The Jack Oakford family took quite a long jaunt last Sunday when they spent the daiy with their good friends, Jeanne and Lou LaPlace, in Hazelcrest. They also stopped in the city to have coffee with Petey's sister, Marilyn McCullough. Tommy Messel, Del Gerstad, Tommy Bockman and Billy Krater attended the Boy Scout dinner for Troop 162 at the American Legion hall last Saturday evening. On Feb. 6, Kay and Les Luing again had their two sons and families out for dinner and the evening, along with Kay's aunt, Mrs. Nana Hughes, who was celebrating her 96th birthday. On Sunday, Feb. 7 the George and Johnson families got together for cake and ice cream to celebrate the birthdays of those two very active two year olds, Kenny George and Joey Johnson. They were born on the 8th of Feb. After bowling last Saturday the Kochs, Dowells, Matthews, Georges and the Johnsons went to the home of the Johnsons for a snack and cake and ice cream to celebrate Max Koch's birthday. That active group of bridge players met at Ivy Lezak's home last Wednesday. Ivy served delicious refreshments and everyone had a very enjoyable evening. Ann Leigh took top honors with Ivy taking second. Ruth McMahon, Louise McEnery, Joyce Braun, Gayle Laursen, Ruth Chadwick and the mystery guest Susie all enjoyed Ivy's hospitality. Ann Herzog was unable to attend and Susie Q was her substitute. Our condolences are extended to Lucille Dietz. Her mother passed away last week at the Woodstock Home. PFC. Robert Charles Bates will be graduating from Security Armed Forces school at Fort Devans, Mass., the end of this month. He wrote home to tell his proud family that after graduation he will be sent to Bangkok, Thialand, where he will be stationed for 15 months. Our very best wishes go to Bob.
